  1. Ahh the video is geo-blocked in my country, do you know where I can find it elsewhere? I ask mostly because if it hasn't been Eng subbed, I'm happy to do a rough summary/translation for those who don't speak Japanese and also as an excuse to practice my own hahaha (but if it has, I won't bother since officially fansubbed versions probably have better translations). But anyway, more fun points from the 1st video (feel free to correct me if I got it wrong)! 1:36 Yuzu's cute English! And the newscaster says they're his juniors from his international school but I assume the girl who talked to him knows him because she says his English is better 2:08 Yuzu recognises Romeo and Juliet song and says 'Romijuli??' (which is how the Japanese abbreviate it apparently) The whole time he's like 'wow, there's so many people' and then 'oh no, my hands are tired' He struck a pose for the fans 14 times in 30min 3:01: Little fanboy is called Yuzuki and he's so adorable ( : 3:48 - 'we told him to look over here and he waved his hands like this!') The lady who's banshee-screaming Yuzu's name in the crowd over Yuzuki always makes me laugh and cringe a little 5:09: Please say something to the junior skaters who are aiming for the future ((I attempted to summarise YUZU'S BLOODY LONG COMPLICATED THOUGHT CHAIN which meandered everywhere yuzu whyyyy)) Essentially, I think he says that skating is a special type of performance. Even if you do your part and put in effort, it will not always be enough to guarantee a good result but he hopes the junior skaters will not hesitate to put effort in. He says that even if you give your all in order to practice and don't do well - there are changes to the body and there are times when it's quite difficult to do well - the effort itself (or the determination) will pay off in later life. Of course results are important but the act of putting in effort as a human and as an athlete, through their practicing, they can become an excellent person themselves and in society 6:06: 'He could make you feel familiar with him in such a short period of time, he really became 'our Yuzuru' 6:24: 'He was so cool when he was skating but when he did this pose, he became so cute!'
  2. omg I'm laughing so hard at the VS Arashi show (especially the sports caster who's like 'sorry, I'm only a normal salaryman and my company told me to come and compete with the reputation of the company on your back and try hard', Jun being like 'it's okay, we just need to catch 2 pink balls which is 100 points and then we just need to get..... 18 yellow balls' and Ohno: 'but what if it comes at 8 and then down at 3-' Jun: 'just get all of them', Taka being super meek and bumping into the glass). Yuzu would be so hyper competitive if he appeared on any sort of gameshow, it'd be hilarious to watch Fingers crossed there will be plenty to come for him on variety shows in the future. I feel like he actually really enjoys such things but wouldn't do any until after he's achieved all his competitive career goals
  3. Oh my, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a fear of speaking something I really want out loud when it hasn't happened yet. Let us all silently wish in our hearts ;;
  4. Throwing back to Yuzu's victory parade in Sendai after Sochi, which is one of my favourite videos. Has it been Eng Subbed before? Apparently like 92k people showed up, which is actually ridiculous He had a marching band and it was playing Romeo and Juliet lol The little boy in the crowd with the cutest husky voice who was like 'Hanyu-kun really came! I was so moved! I really saw the gold medal!' His old classmate who was like 'he was really popular in middle school and I always thought he'd become a really incredible person....and he really did become an incredible person.'
  5. Javi )))): say it ain't so. It would make sense for him to, I suppose
  6. If he really must repeat Seimei as I'm dreading, I hope they'll work together to make a new arrangement ;____; (even though tbh the cut in 2015 was perfect. the song was perfect. why didn't he save it for Olympic season lmao)
  7. Kpop profiles usually lie about height especially for guys because it benefits their public image to be thought of as taller (G-Dragon was 'officially' 175cm at some point and someone did a height comparison when he was standing next to other people and it was like....no, I'd be surprised if he's even 170). I think athletes don't have as much pressure and they would get regular medicals so I'd say 172 seems accurate (and even if they did lie about it or get it wrong they wouldn't say he's shorter than he is). People with long limbs tend to 'feel' taller in photos and we gotta discount a couple of cms for his hair too haha. I'm frankly surprised he grew at all -- he seemed to have reached his full height very early and with all that heavy jumping.... (I haven't grown since I was 12 sobs)
  8. yuzu's casual fashion has that iconic ~japanese boy circa 2007~ thing still going on which is ridiculously endearing (mostly his necklaces and power bracelets, bless... there was a time when all my J-pop idols looked like that omfg). it also makes the contrast between his on-stage fashion choices so interesting because he clearly goes for the high drama and doesn't care about gender norms (I just love that at exhibitions, most of the guys are in sensible dress shirts and pants and then there's yuzu who's all ~GLITTER AND FEATHERS AND OMBRE BITCHES~ while also being distinctly masculine in his mannerisms). also I'm a sucker for boys who appreciate their mums ; u ;
  9. I admit when I read about Rika's program music, I was like '.....Kung Fu Panda???' Sad that it doesn't immediately convey a ~sophisticated~ vibe because of that (hopefully only to me??), but I really like the piece and I love that she picked music with Asian influences. Some diversity and variety is always nice ( :
  10. "It is an entirely different story to be the defending Olympic champion, the defending World champion and current world record holder for all parts of the men’s event (SP, LP, Total)." It just hit me that this is where Yuzu is at omg. I'm so proud of this kid but this is truly an unprecedented level of expectation. Only maybe Yuna in 2014 was facing something close, right? In the end, we can only hope he will be happy with his skate, healthy and fairly scored ; u ;
  11. Would love to know more about Yuzu and Fujii-san whe you have the time to expand on the topic~ I often see you posting translations and sharing small bits of news or videos so I wanted to take this chance to say thank you for translating them all so often and tirelessly! A lot of Twitter threads and small information is easily missed by international fans so I am very grateful to JP fans who take the time to share these things with us ( : 本当にありがとうございます!
  12. Oh my. Is this inspired by CoC? This is pensive and so quietly powerful
  13. ((also omg his baby 'NUMBER ONE' hand gesture at the end which he upgraded to his usual 'hand over head' move))
  14. My belief is that whoever edited and narrated this documentary had the most troll sense of humour because the opening narration to me had the subtext of 'yes, he's actually 22 and acting half his age + being Extra AF'. Also how else to explain this particular photo selection? The slow pan upwards to reveal Nathan's face makes me laugh out loud every time
  15. Lollll one of my favourite clips. Favourite parts: little girl with her arms over her head, and the announcer who was like 'YUZURU HANYUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuu'. It's too bad Yuzu will probably not compete in Cup of China again and won't be in China unless GPF or Worlds is scheduled there. I'm sure it'll be a Pooh avalanche if he does (Chinese fans are.......on another level lol)
  16. Oh bless, I was wondering why she took a second to react. She was probably still looking for a number starting with 1
  17. fine, well if the publisher was thinking of banking on thirsty fangirl dollars, I can't really fault them.....I guess.............
  18. I dunno, I don't think those quad arm muscles and legs are going to be nearly as appealing if they're strangling me in my bed out of fear of ghosts because Yuzu looks like he'd be a clingy sleeper LOL (seriously...........dis kid....)
  19. personally most of his imperfections is endearing to me, but my portrait photography blood boils up when I see the photos published like. You had all the photos and you chose this one?? It really has nothing to do with Yuzu himself, just my ire as a photographer and what I perceive as not capturing the most optimal shot
  20. LOL I have no context for this but it says Yuzu saw a ghost (or thought he saw a ghost) in his hotel room and was scared, so he asked to sleep with his staff (THIS DORK??) ((the topic of this segment is 'The surprising side of a gold medalist: the things Yuzuru is not good with' - ie. stuff he struggles with......I guess a fear of ghosts is one of them???))
  21. The portrait of him is a beautiful photo, and how great is it for him to be in the company of names like Ronaldo at such a young age ; u ; (their description is not wrong either lol). The photo of the slide (what's the official name?) on the other hand........I said this for the person who took this photo of Evgenia too but like........why would you take the photo from that angle. W H Y. You've given him a double chin and failed to show off the move
  22. ようこそPlanet Hanyuへ! Your English is great ( :
  23. As a photographer I'm just like 'did the person.....not put on burst mode' because the next few frames should have been much better (unless they were on auto-focus and it freaked out). Usually with sports photography you end up with a ridiculous amount of frames because it's so hard to get them in the right moment that you just set it on machine gun fire and pray
  24. it's the best but the best along the hilariously-ugly-awesome line. Then again, I've been laughing over figure skating faces (and just general sports photography) for years. Utmost respect, of course, but also.......
  25. Okay but I'm still laughing at his face here and here. Flattering mid-action sports photography is hard
