  1. I'm laughing so hard. If only my mum will evangelise like that. Though she is extremely obsessed with her Chinese dramas (and so is my grandmother - her mother) so fangirling is definitely hereditary LOL I thought it was a collared shirt under one of those Year 12 jerseys because like. dude. The shirt comes down to the mid-thigh. Whyyyyyy. I cry every day at the beautiful fashion Yuzu could rock if he were even remotely interested (and/or if he had someone on his team invested in styling him nicely). Alas. He is but human.
  2. LMFAO my thoughts exactly, that shirt is a tragedy. can Boyang give out free fashion and style lessons because. Please.
  3. To be fair, I've been conditioning her for months so she at least knows who Yuzu is (sort of). Can't expect to hook everyone in but now at least she's interested in watching the Olympics (livestream) with me : D My pitch is basically 'not watching it is like not watching tennis in a tournament with only the Big Four and top 10 players'
  4. Completely off topic but I have extra evidence Seimei is a good choice for Olympics casual viewers: I left Chopin on YouTube auto play on my phone and it skipped automatically to Seimei at GPF 2015 while I was out of the room and my mum, who has been so far only casually interested in figure skating got seriously invested and actually exclaimed out loud in admiration
  5. HAHAHHAAH okay, nice, I can't argue with that
  6. this is totally shoma's /screaming internally/ face
  7. I think.....the Yuzu kool-aid alters perceptions quite magnificently he looks ugly AF to me but so does everyone else
  8. sobs my dreams crushed by practicalities. maybe we can sew the tie down (that being said..... if he can survive a boobskirt, surely he can totally survive a ribbon to the face ) (but also consider: SPARKLY TUXEDO JACKET SHIRT) (okay w/e I just really want him to wear a really nice suit/tuxedo/ribbon during an EX)
  9. omggg I am so on board with both these costumes! Dark!Seimei (with red!) and classical music tuxedo shirt with ribbon Chopin
  10. Thank you! I love how you've managed to convey Kenji's Kansai-ben ossan vibes through the English and all the expression nuances : D
  11. Throwback to Worlds 2012 small medal ceremony and Nice being so Extra that it had an ICE FLOOR for the ceremony
  12. I got excited about the black shirt thinking it might be the new costume for his EX or something and then i figured it might just be a random thing he's wearing for Hiromi Go's song lol. And aww. I'm so glad Shae-Lynn also a seems so connected to the program and mindful of wanting to know the historical/cultural background ; u ;
  13. Ohh I just found the documentary (on Eteri mostly) with English subtitles here, complete with the dragging feet across ice story. From this docu, it seems Zhenya is the rare rare breed of human who is galvanised by humiliation/failure and fired up to do better after she gets angry (I think she shares this quality with Yuzu). She and Eteri seem to have that special relationship of two very strong personalities recognising each other and respecting each other, hence being able to work together so well. No doubt Zhenya brings out the softer side to Eteri too (I think they share a lot of common qualities). Definitely agree with Yulia and Eteri says in this that Yulia has a very 'dominant' mother as well so I'm not surprised that maybe she needed a coach with a gentler style, who could let her open up and be more assertive in herself. Alas. I hope she's happy now though.
  14. lmao the caps and the bags...I'm dying. China, never change (I'm also lowkey happy Zijun is training with them after what seemed like a very lonely season last year)
  15. Have to say I've always found it a bit hard to connect emotionally with Patrick's skating but I think the fancam actually does him a service because you can appreciate his ice coverage and the flow of his skating much more clearly with this angle. Kind of weirded out by the last part of the Hallelujah where the singer just holds the 'oooooooo' for like several bars, but the style of music suits his skating and it's a style pretty unique to him. Also...these aren't his final costumes though right? Because if he goes out wearing another Casual Manly Sweater(TM), I will be having stern words with whoever's styling him =_=;
  16. Definitely the same person but holy hell that growth spurt Reminds me of this old vid of Yuzu and Ryuju after Yuzu had a 10cm growth spurt (when they used to be almost the same height lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNmtSICKX_4&spfreload=5
  17. i'm dying at the fact the rest of his leg and, hell, even the knees look completely normal and then it's like THIGH MUSCLE HAMMERPANTS (especially in that first photo)
  18. The coach-student fit is so essential and definitely having a coach experienced with the media madness would be invaluable - Yuzu was truly lucky in that way to have benefited from Yuna's work with Brian before him (I also just shake my head at how Yuna was able to bear all that pressure) and also to have precedent with Mao in Japan. I wasn't super into figure skating when Sochi was happening so I'm curious about how you think Yulia and Eteri vs Eteri and Zhenya differ? From what I've gathered (correct me if I'm wrong), Eteri has a certain reputation for being extremely demanding on her students and expect them to conform to a 'formula' (I read that somewhat recent interview where she basically says the skater should not have to worry about anything other than their skating?). I feel like Zhenya is very confident and assertive and can maintain a sense of good humour in the face of pressure, but Yulia struck me as more sensitive/introverted, which doesn't work with a 'dominant' teacher like Eteri.
  19. Omfg that video is hilarious, terrifying and absolutely PERFECT. Yuzu in a bloody nutshell. Where is it from???
  20. Ahh...Yulia's Sochi skate for this is one of the programs that struck me so hard when I first got into figure skating and I rewatched so many times. Her flexibility in this program was absolutely insane and there was such a beautiful way she connected with the music (despite the small jumps). I'm so sad she's been plagued with injury - there is potentially such thing as 'winning before you're ready', but at least she has two amazing performances that will forever be remembered ): It was a good thing that Yuzu was able to 'escape' to Canada to train because the media attention if he had stayed in Japan would have been even worse (hell, it's already pretty bad and he's not even there for most of the year). Who knows how it may have affected his skating career, though I don't deny media interest differs between countries and people and Yulia being so young...it must have taken a toll ;;
  21. this thread is killing me - G forces aren't flattering on anyone (although trust Yuna to have a decent jump face and Satton to also be blessed). I also love that they're ALL CONSISTENT too??? Poor Jeremy Abbott always looks scared, Plushy's eyebags come to haunt him and Yakov Godorozha is just unfortunate. I think these are second only to diving faces omfg those are terrifying. (I'm also wondering if skaters have wrinkles/fine lines along their jump face wrinkles ) Kozuka also makes me laugh
  22. what a photo T_____T <3333 from the article that @gladi just translated (thank you!!)
  23. omggg that looks so fun re: Daisuke Also, old perf of Stephane and Shizuka that just appeared on my Twitter : D (lol will Yuzu ever dance properly with a girl)
  24. The three Japanese obasan fans they show on camera who get super embarrassed makes me smile every time (and then they show them clapping enthusiastically in the replay lol)
  25. How surreal must it be to go to a country and see photos of your good friend's face plastered up everywhere and on the TV. At least Misha is used to media attention
