  1. Beg to differ but switching choerographers too frequently does not work either. They could look into using different ones for different teams rather than shoving them all on one. And it is still possible that communication gaps exist between Lori and the skaters, it will take time to adapt on both sides. I still like the short programs Lori has given to boyang, and that she is trying to bring him out so to speak, as she got him to agree to do the spiderman last season. I am not against a different choerographer for the long, but Shae or Jeff might not work either, so the question is who does he go to? Tom Dickson, TAT?
  2. Oh dear, wake up and it is about gushing over his looks. Question, should we try to go for ten days challenge where we do not talk about his looks, or physical appearance? Just to try it out...? Or would the planet die?
  3. I wonder if anyone has ever shown him the microsoft program that forever IDs him as "Female, age 19." His expression is probably this-->
  4. Um...I caught Boyang's sideeye, and I think he has Yuzu's liar face on when he replied....
  5. To everyone who is wondering about the Boyang/Yuzu fan overlap. I can kind of only explain it from my own perspective. Boyang I did not like, period, in 15/16, and it was only really last season that he managed to grab my attention with La Strada, and what an improvement! Personally, my preference is for light, agile artistic style-more Gabriel's Oboe or even Vocalise versus Carmen or Swan Lake. So skaters that tend to embody that style would appeal to me more naturally. In 15/16, Boyang didn't find his style, and there wasn't a lot of joy, or anything, showing from his skating. But 16/17-he was fun to watch, and so different from 15/16 that I felt compelled to cheer him on. But I think he's going more towards the lightness of H&L than the heaviness of Turandot. Technique wise, while not the cleanest, he's definitely good. He does remind me a bit of Yuzu back during 2011-2013. And it seems that he does have some idea of wanting to find his own style, and trying different things out. In an interview for CoC, he said that he wanted his current SP music last season, but Lori told him to try Spiderman instead. This season, he suddenly wanted to try a slower music, chinese style, so he brought up this request again. While not as stubborn as Yuzu, he's finding his own artistic voice, even if not final. And that does seem different from some of the other quadsters. As for star wars, the oddball said it symbolizes the final flight in the men's competition. So yes, his dorkiness space cadet mentality is also a bit infectious. I'm leaving the other post from team China here, there's already a translation which I forgot about, and my own rough translations above. https://planethanyu.com/topic/62-team-china/?do=findComment&comment=107155
  6. Yes, I misheard it, it should be "I'm not that brave."
  7. I'm glad from this video, it seems he finally has found a general direction he wants to take his artistry to. Stick with Crouching Tiger hidden dragon type of music, is my suggestion. There was this lovely section where it was all drum beats-he's fast and light enough that he can pull it off. The drama that comes from changes in rhythm I think might suit him more. =) But his rationale for choosing star wars...ugh, BOYANG!!!
  8. Aww...I didn't know this at all *Cries*
  9. I'm skipping the others and going straight to Boyang for our special satellites. Get ready for cosmetics advice from Boyang. interview with Boyang Question 1: Since you've competed both nationally and internationally, after these 2 events, what score would you give for your current state: Boyang: 5 Question 2: What will you concentrate on next for practicing and improving? Boyang: Still concentrate more on familiarizing myself with my 2 programs. Because normally for practice when I focus on practicing jumps or endurance training, I am pretty mindful. However when it comes to putting everything together for choreography, there are still parts I’m not familiar with. If it’s just normal practice it’s a bit better, but when I competed the reaction was pretty big (T/N: negative), so I think there are still aspects that can be improved upon in the next 3 weeks, so I can show it well to everyone at CoC. Q3: Are you adapting to the style change for this season’s new programs? Boyang: Not quite adapting to it yet. There are 3 weeks till CoC, so the time is not that much. So hopefully I will continue to improve going forward/afterwards. Q4: of the 2 programs, which do you like more? Boyang: Both of course. Though I might prefer the short more, because it is new for me. Previously I’ve tried a lot of similar styles, including ones similar to the Star Wars free, the Crouching Tiger theme is the first time I’ve tried a program that has slower music, and requires more feelings and emotions to be injected into it. And at the same time I have to express these emotions, I have to combine it with harder movements. This is my first time attempting this. Because it’s a Chinese music style, I hope I can bring this style to life in the Olympics. Q5: Who chose the music? Boyang: Crouching tiger was chosen by me. Originally it was supposed to be for last year, but Lori liked Spiderman more, so we went with Spiderman. I made this request, probably because I’ve never seen the movie before, probably because I’m very young. But when I heard it, it touched me. And suddenly this year I wanted to skate to a slower piece, so when I heard this music, I really liked it-maybe because it left a good impression and touched me emotionally. Q6: Which character are you playing from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? Boyang: Li Mubai. Played by the male god/idol. Q7: What was the inspiration behind the free? What did you want to express? Boyang: The last flight of the men’s. That the last flight of men’s is like Star Wars (T/N: I guess he means battle of the planets?). Q8: The 3 segment format is very different from last year? (T/N: I’m lost on this, really…) Boyang: well last season was also 3 segments wasn’t it…no it was 2 segments. Yeah, this year it is because this year there were a lot of changes too perhaps. But after skating I felt it was okay, and was able to perform very well, so I should be alright. Q9: Will you see the new Star Wars film? Boyang: I will. Definitely will. Q10: We’ve collected some fans questions, please prepare yourself. So, are you satisfied with your recent ironed/curled hairstyle? Or are you going to try some new hairstyle? Boyang: I think I know who asked this. This hairstyle right now is my new hairstyle. It’s pretty handsome. Interviewer asks him to shake his hair, so he proceeds to shake his hair out. Interviewer: The question is are you satisfied? Boyang: Satisfied? Of course, especially since I’m handsome (T/N: here he actually uses a slang that’s a bit like saying ore-sama in Japanese). Q11: Do you wear long underwear? Boyang: No, why wear them? I don’t wear them, after all I’m still young. Q12: where did you get your eyebrows fixed? Boyang: Who asked this?! Because this season I had to take photos for a magazine, so the magazine editorial make up artists fixed my eyebrows. So did I get more handsome again? Q13: what do you like to eat? Boyang: Besides vegetables, I like to eat most things. I like meat, sweet things. Q14: what do you do in your free time? Boyang: daydream Q15: Are there any plushy toys you like? Boyang: let me think…Spiderman. Dragons. Q16: What type of gifts do you hope fans to give you? Boyang: Dragons Q17: Do you like shopping? Boyang: Yes, I like to go shopping. But I don’t really buy and I don’t really bring people. Interviewer: how does that work? Boyang: Kind of just like enjoying walking. Q18: What is the thing that gave you the deepest impression of CoC? Boyang: Yah…hmm I hope each time I compete I can get better results. Interviewer: we asked for your deepest impression… Boyang: What type of question is this? Interviewer: well that time your nose bleed Boyang: Have I had a nose bleeding incident before? That performance…? Ah, yes, yeah, that time. That is my deepest memory, thank you for reminding me. Q19: When can we see your livestreams again? Boyang: I don’t know…(T/N: sorry, I didn’t catch the rest) Q20: Do you have plans to add the 4Lo in this season? Boyang: Because now I’m still familiarizing myself with my programs, and it’s still the start of the season, and while initially I thought about it, I think now the focus is on stabilizing and getting through the competitions first. Q21: Have you jumped a 4A before in practice? Boyang: Huh?! No No No No No! (T/N: why is he side-eyeing the camera and has Yuzu’s liar face on?!) I'm not that brave. Q22: Are you satisfied with your competition outfits? Boyang: Satisfied. Because the ones for the initial competitions are not actually final, they’re all just trials. The long program outfit I wore at Finlandia was done in about a day. And wasn’t used in competition before, so we’ll still continue to work on the outfit a bit more. Q23: You’re going to go to the Olympics, how do you feel? Boyang: I’m very excited. I can participate at the Olympics which is something I’ve always wanted, so I’m also very happily/excitedly working towards this. Q24: What is your goal of the 2018 Olys? Boyang: Goal…wow, this I haven’t even thought of. Um, then it is that I will show my best form and performance, do both programs successfully, and of course I hope I can represent Chinese singles skating and get a medal. Q25: Do you have any wishes now that you’re 20 years old? Boyang: Hmm. That I’m 20 already and still so young, I’m pretty happy. Q26: Are you happy with today’s interview? Boyang: Happy, very happy.
  10. 4F plus the "takes forever to text back" of 4Lz. As for the entire issue of Yuzu staying post PC 2018, I think he might, and with a rather depressing reason. Currently I don't see any really strong Japanese male skaters rising through the ranks for at least another 2-3 years, so unless Shoma is ready to fight it alone (and Yuzuru is comfortable making Shoma go solo), I think he'd stay on just so Japanese men get their spots at worlds. I trust that if he stays he would still enjoy skating, and it's not just fed pressure, seeing especially how competitive he is, and how he wants to just...land everything imaginable under the sun. But that he's that critical for the Japanese men's skating is depressing. Looking at the junior men's right now, it's pretty much Russia vs USA. Anyhow, I just hope he gets to skate as long as he enjoys skating, and leaves the competitive side on his own terms. He's given a lot to this sport/art already, and it has been a lot better due to his existence in this field. =)
  11. so subtle. I help tape and spot.a couple of the older guys here with their jumps, so when in trouble I whip out yuzu jump vids and gifs, and they become converts to his clean technique. =D
  12. oh, boyang has a weibo, and he does crazy stuff at times, like live broadcasts, and raffling away his costumes (not sure how that went though). There might be an international version, since wechat and qq both do. You can use email to sign up.
  13. know what, about the entire Yuzu fans are all japanese thing. One of these days I would love to see a journalist apraoch a chinese fan and ask if she is japanese, proceed to get a very vehmenant response, and proceed to be utterly be puzzled how such nationalism allows said fan to cheer on a japanese skater. I would die laughing. Korean fans might work too.
  14. next year, he will get flooded by gold colored knit and silk scarves.
  15. know what, come to my rink. The guys here like Nate but they like Yuzu and Boyang, Javi, and Pchiddy more, you know acknowledge quality where it exists. And as several are jumping axels, they are scared of Nate's landings.
  16. It is a bad pr idea, so they might blacklist me? So now he had an official harem and an unofficial harem? Well as the library keeper, must we kindly remind him that is a bad idea, and the emperors who tried that usually did not go down well in history?
  17. oh lords, what have I released into the universe this time?! In ancient china, there were no strict protocols on how many wives an emperor could take in. So there were guys with hundreds of concubines, and emperors with small harems of just three or five. I originally made Yuzu out to be the type that kept a small selective one, but now he is starting to sound like the guy with the 200 concubines one. Edit: so if the jumps are concubines, and the poohs are ministers, I guess that makes us the gossipy servants servicing the palace?
  18. Oh a harem fic incoming. Emperor Yuzuru and the creation of his backyard. Starring: Empress 3A: a smart, dignified and regal lady of good upbringing. She has been through thick and thin with the emperor ever since he started his reign. Recently, with the potential birth of princess baby 4A on the horizon, her health has taken a slight dip. But considering her upbringing, she is usually able to reliably perform all requisite functions of her position with aplomb. Lady 4T: the second one to enter the harem. A talented one who was pursued for what her family could bring to the kingdom, and while beautiful, she has been known mostly for her quiet, stable support of the emperor’s endeavors, at times acting on behalf of Empress 3A when the empress has been sick. However, due to her older age, she has been more worried recently with the arrival of the new ladies, especially as the emperor has not given as much attention to her. As such, she had started locking herself in her chambers out of sadness, fearing that she will be abandoned. With some encouragement by the minister poohs, she has gradually come back to court to perform her normal duties. Lady 4S: a lovely talented and smart lady from a scholarly family. She is capricious at times, and very opinionated, vocally opinionated. Unlike other ladies who would quietly lock themselves away in their rooms in protest, usually lady 4S, when she protests, will write lengthy sarcastic poems mocking our emperor. Or directly rebuff him, publicly. Recently though, it seems the emperor has had a heart to heart (or mind to mind) talk with her, so she has gradually stepped up to her duties, and given support while several other ladies were moping. Hopefully this is a good indicator for the future. Lady 4Lo: a lady with an elusive, ethereal quality to her beauty, pursued by many but won by our Emperor. As a new one to the court, she still feels ever so unsecure in her position in the court. Especially as recent arrivals have threatened her position. As she is not sure how to directly express her displeasure and insecurity, she has resorted to more passive aggressive means, such as sending in her servant 3Lo, in her stead to important court functions. As she is new, the emperor will need to talk to her personally to assuage her fears. Lady 4Lz: an uncommon beauty, with a bit of foreign blood. The emperor had been in pursuit of her for over 3 years, and only until recently has she coyly accepted to enter his harem. It seems the real reason was the emperor finally appealed to her sense of adventure, even if only an intellectual sort, to go after real challenges such as changing his court system. Unlike the other ladies, she is a feisty one, opinionated with all sorts of foreign notions she has gleaned from her travels, with suggestions of reforms. The emperor has been slightly amused, supportive and exasperated at her antics, since she has proceeded to upset several mochi carts even though several of her suggestions have been implemented to great success. She is still figuring out the limitations of her powers and the proper functions of her position, with guidance from the minister poohs. I ran out of ideas for 3F....
  19. I think so, and there was a video where they showed how this 4Lz looked like from the back, and it had a pretty pronounced lean to his left side before he kind of whips it back to his right side to land. And that certainly wasn't there in the practice 4Lz he landed. Maybe it's just nerves. As for Boyang, the way he skated his SP at finlandia, the more he reminds me of certain Yuzu characteristics. So I hope he continues to work with Lori and polish up his basic skating skills. He does a LOT of work with his feet, and while not exactly Chan level of edges, he's very quick. The more I look at his Finlandia SP, the more I have an image of what type of music he can pull off (hint: something with Taiko drumming rhythm change based type of programs, less Turandot type ). Athleticism, if choreographed and exploited well, can also be artistic, not everything needs to reach Carmen levels of drama to be artistic. There are reasons why people haven't done taiko programs yet-it is tiring, and not everyone can keep pace with it. And it would be fun to watch.
  20. I went to the facebook page and there were only 8 comments. Not sure if I'm missing something, but there was never a hint about why Yuzu's 4Lz landing was unstable? Compared to Boyang's the things that stand out to me are a) not as much distance; b) more pronounced tilt in the air (25 vs 16 degree body angle in air). So is the prognosis for Yuzu to increase distance or what to fix that tilt?
  21. so it was possibly Brian? Or was it coach Tuzuki?
  22. Yes, his antenna signals messed with my normally sane antenna waves! It is totally our king's fault. Now prime minister pooh will probably come after me....
  23. Considering the prerotation allowed, and that is natural in a toe loop, a 5T is kind of close to a 4A in the number of rotations in the air.... Sorry, I let a bad thought into the universe. Forgive me guys for I have sinned?
  24. On Facebook? Mahhhhhh, firewall of China..... what did they do on his practice ones? Same distance, less height but better lean of the body at takeoff, aka straighter?
