  1. I'm a bit confused. What was the reaction of Japanese fans? It seems like that Japanese fans who don't travel abroad to watch competitions are feeling ignored (like us) because of the article? Thank you guys, that makes it clearer for me. And yeah, I agree. It's a nice sentiment but too many groups, even among the Japanese fans, can feel left out, let alone all the non-Japanese fans who also travel to watch or stream at home or watch on TV and cheer and suffer equally.

  3. Yuzuru Hanyu, the POPSTAR. [image]http://imgur.com/sKU22kb.gif[/image] edited by me As long as it's that type of popstar and not this type. :rofl2:
  4. [tweet]862675242774220801[/tweet] :rofl2: but please don't, Yuzu.
  5. That's been a point of irritation as far back as I can remember, because it is quite often not easy to tell apart... generally, a good example would be a jump from a stand still (which nobody ever does, but bear with me). If a guy for example starts of with a 2A out of a stand still, right at the beginning, than that is definitely an unexpected and difficult entry, but it includes no steps. But in most cases, the difference between these bullet points is IMO rather slim and... very, very subjective. Personally, I often thought "standard entries", like a mohawk into a salchow, could be counted as 2) but not as 1). But that looks less the case to me now with that new addition... Man, ISU. Everytime one of their rule looks lacking and useless to me, they manage to make it worse. So, they made it even harder to differentiate by using similar wording on both bullets.
  6. Thank you so much for the slowed down version of the video, guys. This will help keeping track of steps much better now.
  7. wait you're right. the requirements now only applies for the -2 GOE for not including it before *facepalm* i should have read this more carefully lmao anyway this only means no more -2 for not including difficult steps so it would really have no effect on yuzu :rofl2: i cant believe i got so worked up for this :rofl2: edit: to answer your question, it used be 'clear recognizable (difficult for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element see here: http://static.isu.org/media/1003/2000-sptc-sov-and-goe-2016-2017_revised-july-14.pdf anyway after much thinking i think it shouldnt affect yuzu much Actually, I was thinking more of what makes bullet 1 and bullet 2 in the SP any different from each other, now?
  8. yes of course. giving -3 to a clean jump is just impossibly ridiculous. i was just worried of him not checking that bullet. but even if he dont, he'll check other bullets and still get enough lol. it's yuzu after all, he'll get by some way. This reminds me: 1) unexpected / creative / difficult entry 2) clear recognizable (creative, interesting, original for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element So.... what's the difference between these now for the SP? Err, actually, what was the difference between them before too (only for SP)...
  9. There's no possible way for a single invalided jump to get anything other than 0, whereas in a combo, if the first jump is valid then there will be a goe applied. Yep. I honestly thought combo errors were already deducted -3 automatically, so I guess nothing changes here, they just tried to clarify the wording on their previous rule for this. I initially did think they were going to start taking out GOE on the invalidated 0 jumps too, but I guess this is why I should re-read things in english more than once.
  10. They are hosts, so they will go even if Nebelhorn doesn't work out for them. It's in the rules. But as sally said, in case of the ladies, they have 2 spots there, regardless, thanks to Dabin. Why do they even need to go to Nebelhorn then? I guess so you're not just seen as using your host privileges to get skaters in without a token effort? (I don't know, I'm just making reasons up!)
  11. Thanks, meoima. So my understanding is that this applies to the combo jumps and any errors in a combo that may lead to an invalidated jump have to automatically get -3 GOE applied to it. So if you do a double-double in a men's senior SP, you have to get -3 GOE applied to it, because it would have had to be a triple-double or quad-double (or the other way around) for it to be a valid combo, correct? Edit: Single non-combo jumps will still be marked as invalid (0).
  12. Just to relax everyone around here: this rule will have no bearing on Yuzuru. No judge is going to suddenly start adding -3 to a spread-eagle sandwich quad if it is otherwise a good quad just because he has done it before. No need to panic there. It might or might not have consequences on other skater's jumps, though if it's a positive or neutral consequence for them remains to be seen. It'll depend on what will be otherwise considered to be 'interesting and creative' movements by the judges, I guess.
  13. Spread eagles still count as transition/steps, I think? Though I never see them applied to a solo quad jump except by, well, Yuzu. Usually they're getting attached to the 3As (Shoma, Nathan, Yuzu back in Chopin 1.0). What I mean is that this new definition "2) clear recognizable (creative, interesting, original for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element" can be very very subjective, more than the "difficult steps" I think? I have no idea, this is why I'm asking. :s_dunno A judge may decide he has had enough of spread-eagles-before-jump from yuzuru. I really hate that GOE points can be bended and twisted so much so to justify even the craziest scores... :hammer: Yes, it can be subjective, but not that much. I don't think any judge worth its name can or will deduct a -3 out of positive bullets of a quad jump within a spread-eagle sandwich unless the jump really sucks (at most he could get a 0, which is scandalous enough but it also depends on how he does the jump, of course). I don't think this rule will have much bearing on what Yuzu does or doesn't do. It might have on other people whose solo jumps in the SP used to be judged in a less consensual way by judges applying or not applying the steps rule.
  14. But that's for a 3A. That has no bearing in this rule; it only applies to the solo non-3A jump. Every other jump should be graded the same it has always been, solely on GOE bullets.
  15. The more I think about it, the more I wonder. This could give those judges prone to actually deducting something from a solo jump with no steps a reason not to, but it could also breed even less consensus between judges. After all, interesting and creative can be a very subjective thing. I don't know, it seems to me this change makes FS even more subjectively judged; and it was already pretty subjective already, on both PCS and GOEs. However, I am not so sure how the judges will actually apply this rule. Maybe they'll ignore it too. We'll have to see.
  16. Specs, the final version is even more amazing than I thought it would be. I love it so much. Amazing use of color and detail of his costumes. Have all the :goe:

  18. Good idea. As i think the spiral itself doesn't bring as many points as Biellmann. The Biellman is an upright spin. The spiral is a skating movement/element. You can't replace a Biellman for a spiral, because the latter isn't a spin. Spirals don't give any points for men, so they can basically be used only for choreographic touches or skating movements/transitions in between or leading into/out of elements. So, Spiral-into-3A could be a thing (of beauty).

  20. I think its mostly means no combo will receive -3 GOE, this rule already apply this season. Even if they give negative goe for a pop, -3 GOE for 1Lo is -0.3, well, Yuzu's SP score at WTT still almost the same. As for the rule before solo jump... from "difficult" to "creative, interesting" :problem: We might see skater do a dozen of crossovers and shout "Arigatou" to the judges, creative enough for max goe Oh yeah, I forgot -3 GOE on a single is like peanuts. Edit: Also, on the last part. You don't necessarily get max GOE. Your jump may still only have the bullets for a lower GOE margin, but you may no longer have judges disagreeing as much about a jump when some used to give -2 and -1 due to applying, I guess, a no step rule. So more positive GOE all around in SP solo jumps, I guess? It's just so... subjective... what can be considered original/creative or, *snort*, interesting. Who is going to judge this? How!? At least adding 'difficult steps/transitions' as a rule had a more objective understanding (even if it was ignored by some).
  21. :rofl2: thank you for explaining because I was wondering if I had missed an inside joke about Nathan. Well, the fisherman image kinda works for him :D Sorta unrelated to Yuzu memes but I believe this may be related to Nathan's instagram pic with him on the beach that [link=https://togetter.com/li/1108510]became a meme with Japanese fans[/link]. Apparently they think he looks like an actor from a 70s drama. I guess he looks like a fisherman too.
  22. I may be having the wrong, pessimistic reading of this, but it seems like to me that in addition to giving -3 to not having a combo or having an invalidated combo, you may now actually also get -3 for any invalid jump, which means a single will not give you just 0 points anymore, it'll give you -3. No more popping in the SP, guys. You're done now. I forgot you'd need to apply the -3 GOE to the actual BV of the popped jump, which would be peanuts since the actual GOE taken would be -0.3. This rule applies only to the combo issues. Popped solo jumps not part of the combo will still get invalidated and worth 0. No - GOE applied to, you know, jumps worth no BV. *facepalm*
  23. I also don't understand the “SP: Jump element not according to requirements final GOE must be -3”. So you don't get 0 points for popping, you're now getting -3? So Yuzu's WTT SP scoring with this rule up would have been down 3 points because of the 1Lo pop?
