Took selfies of himself with Yuzu practising his FS in the background, sabotaged the rink, and disappeared with the secret of Yuzu's FS...

This question and answer exchange took place at a press conference at the airport on Yuzuru's return from Barcelona following his GPF victory in December 2014. The following is a video of TV commentators discussing Yuzuru's response to that question. Immediately after the video clip of the question and answer exchange, the male commentator stated (regarding Yuzuru's answer): "100 points" (meaning perfect answer). They were all impressed and amazed by Yuzuru's maturity at only 20 years of age. The first lady to comment in response to a question from the male commentator said that her son had watched the Grand Prix Final and wanted to be like Yuzuru Hanyu. Then she went on to say, with a straight face, that after hearing Yuzuru's (mature, intelligent) comments, it would be too much to expect her son to be like Yuzu! To this, the male and female commentators replied that she should heed Yuzuru's advice to look for (and encourage) the good parts in her son. The main commentator noted that Yuzuru had suffered a big injury in the Cup of China, struggled at the NHK Trophy and still rebounded to get a consecutive win at the GPF. They said that he is a spectacular athlete, that it was hard to believe that he is only 20 years of age and wondered how far he is going to go.

Yuzuru Hanyu and Evgenia Medvedeva | Beautiful Crime FMV by Cat Eye Comments by the creator and uploader, Cat Eye: This video is not a love story. It is about people who adore figure skating, never give up and cannot live without fs. I advise you to abstract from the original meaning of the song and just enjoy the atmosphere. The song: Tamer – Beautiful Crime

It's too bad that it's geo-blocked where you live. I don't know where else you can find this subtitled video. The girl that spoke to Yuzu is Marika Steward, the daughter of James Steward, the headmaster of the Tohoku International School. They were both in the Miyagi Figure Skating Club at one time. Yuzuru was not a student at the Tohoku International School. He attended Tohoku High School. There was even a rumour once that Marika was the object of Yuzu's affection. Unfounded, of course.

This is the only one that I know of that has been English subtitled: Watching this again reminded me that Yuzu donated all of his Olympic prize money to the City of Sendai and Miyagi Prefecture.

Ah yes... the ongoing, never ending, mind-wracking question of how tall Yuzuru really is. I think that Yuzu enjoys keeping everyone in suspense because it would be so simple for him to measure his height. At the "Asaichi" TV program, he could have stood against the wall and had a mark made on the wall and have that height measured on live TV. How hard is it to measure one's height? According to the ISU official online biographies, Yuzuru is still listed at 171 cm and Javier is listed at 173 cm. There was a time that Javier was listed at 175 cm, but this was changed in the last year or so. I think that 173 cm is probably a more accurate height for Javier. Although people will not agree and the debate will go on ad infinitum, I think that Yuzu is a bit taller than Javier. This doesn't really help because we do not know how accurate Javier's stated height is. The only statement that no one will probably seriously argue with is that Yuzu is the perfect height, no matter what it really is.

The first video is the making of the "Hana wa Saku" video dedicated to the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. This was done in June 2014 in collaboration with Yuzu's former coach, Nanami Abe, who choreographed this performance. The second video is regarding Yuzu's ice show contribution to the 24 Hour Charity program in August 2015. In June 2015, Yuzu visited people still living in temporary housing in Fukushima because of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. In one of the scenes, he visited a number of ladies gathered at a craft class in the temporary housing project. They were obviously delighted to see Yuzu. These ladies have all been displaced from their hometown because of the nuclear disaster. In an emotional scene, one of the ladies, the crafts teacher, said that they had been forced away from their hometown ("furusato") for four years because of the disaster and asked Yuzu what thoughts he had about his hometown. Yuzu replied (with a melancholy look) that he was in Canada for training purposes, but no matter how far away he travelled, his hometown remained his hometown. The same lady then tearfully stated that she thought that a hometown provides the same sense of security as that of a mother's womb. Although they had been told that they would be able to return to their hometown relatively soon, they questioned whether it would be as simple as that. Nothing was the same and they faced an uncertain future. Getting together with everyone at the craft class provided the ladies with some positive outlook. One lady said that seeing everyone's faces and being able to talk to everyone at the class made her happy. Yuzu said that he wanted to get good results in his skating so that it would benefit everyone and that he will continue trying hard. The ladies, in turn, said that they will persevere and try hard. Yuzu subsequently invited the people that he visited in temporary housing to the ice rink to watch the ice show that he performed for 24 Hour TV. The musical and vocal accompaniment for Yuzu's performance of "Hana Ni Nare" was provided by Fumiya Sashida (the composer and singer of this song) and a girls choir from the Tohoku area.

I love listening to Enrique CoMa – he is such a huge Yuzu fan. He is Spanish, but it's obvious from listening to him who his favourite is between Yuzu and Javier. You can hear the raw emotion in his voice as he watches Yuzu perform. His irregular breathing, his "please, please" as Yuzu approaches his 4S-3T combo, his "Ole!" and screeching after the 4S-3T combo, the sounds of him sniffing tears of joy, crying out "Yuzuru Hanyu, world champion!" and his final "Yuzuru Hanyu, I love you!"

Yes, it is Musubimaru, the onigiri-head samurai, the mascot of Sendai. I'm not sure, but they may be in costume for the Tanabata Matsuri (Festival) which is famous in Sendai.

Whenever I look at the prize money for the competitions, it strikes me how under-rewarded the athletes are compared to other sports. Skaters at the very top like Yuzuru are rewarded through sponsorships and commercial endorsement contracts, particularly in Japan where figure skating is so popular, but, I don't know how other skaters get by. All competitive figure skaters must be skating for the love of the sport and bragging rights because the financial incentives certainly aren't there. Yuzuru is probably the most financially rewarded figure skater in the world right now and is favourably compared to Shohei Otani, the phenomenal Japanese baseball player, as two of Japan's top athletes. Yet, Yuzuru's financial potential is but a fraction of Shohei Otani's. Baseball experts are predicting that Otani is worth $200-$300 million US in American MLB.
