  1. I am sure that you meant no disrespect or offense, but the word or abbreviation "Jap" is considered derogatory and a racial slur amongst Japanese, particularly the Japanese minority living in North America. It was said with a lot of hatred before and during World War II and this negative connotation continued affterwards whenever it was used. Therefore, I would ask that people not use the abbreviation "Jap". It doesn't take that much more effort to spell the word "Japanese".
  2. I read somewhere that his dad does baseball so he probably inherited the skills. And he did say he like baseball :space: Judging by the Galas where they throw the signed balls, seems like he still has a good arm :) I thought he played it seriously (or sort of)? Didn't he have to choose at a certain point between figure skating and baseball? He never played seriouss baseball as far as I know, but I understand that his father played ball when he was younger and/or coached baseball. Therefore, he was probably introduced at a young age to baseball and learned how to throw and catch, etc., with the proper technique. Kurt Browning has said on a number of occasions how he played catch with Yuzuru when he was choreographing a number for him (probably "Hello, I Love You") and Yuzuru had quite the arm and knew how to throw the ball.
  3. I would tend to agree with you. Javier Fernandez used to have his height listed as 175 cm in his ISU biography, but it has now been changed to 173 cm which is probably the correct height. Although people can argue ad nauseum about whether or not Yuzuru is taller or shorter or the same height as Javier, I think that he is slightly taller judging from pictures of them standing together on the top podium at the two Grand Prix Finals in Barcelona. So, as you say meoima, it's probably safe to say that Yuzuru is in the 173 – 175 cm range.
  4. Welcome! Glad you joined us :pbow: I just had a random thought..... is Yuzu a cat or dog person? I am leaning more towards cat person, I mean he himself is a space kitten I'm late to this conversation, but he is definitely a cat person. I believe he has indicated his fondness of cats in interviews. When he was visiting temporary housing in Tohoku, he seemed to take delight in petting a cat that belonged to an elderly couple. Didn't he also say that if he had to choose what kind of animal he would like to be it would be a cat?
  5. He looks so freaking young! It's funny how he looks adult in some situations and like a kid in others.
  6. Another question, so yuzu's mom is always with him right? Any pictures available? I've tried googling but uncle google can't give me the results... or she has always maintain her privacy? I think his mother is here: 15-year-old Yuzu. Mom hand-making Zigeunerweisen costume designed by Johnny Weir for his senior debut. Lots of love going into that costume. Did you spell that from memory or did you have to, like all normal human beings, copy paste it from somewhere? :rofl2: I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software and "Zigeunerweisen" is one of the words that I put into the vocabulary! Are you kidding? Who could remember how to spell that!
  7. Yep! But I'm actually amazed by her ninja moves as well. She has a sixth sense when cameras start clicking and is just able to hide/blend into the background. I really respect this family. Yuzuru is a mega celebrity and perhaps the best known athlete in Japan. He is immensely popular. Despite this, we know almost nothing about his family. They keep an extremely low profile. They work at avoiding publicity. His mother cannot completely avoid cameras, but she is very adept at sidestepping and fading into the background whenever she spots television cameras. She tends to walk quite a distance behind Yuzu when they appear in public places. Whenever I have seen his father in videos, it is from behind as he is driving the family van. The only picture that I recall seeing of Yuzu's older sister, Saya, is when they were very young, possibly when they first started skating. We hear nothing about her, or for that matter, any other family members. It is clear, however, from what we see in Yuzuru, that he has been raised very well.
