  1. There are a lot of great clips of Yuzu performing "Let's Go Crazy" in Yuzu Honey's new video, "Yuzuru Hanyu Image Photos 42":
  2. Are you on Pacific Daylight Time, Hydro? If so, it looks like we are in the same time zone. 2 month anniversary for us in about two hours and 10 minutes!
  3. I don't know whether these videos by YUZU FAIRY & ECOVAIL have already been posted and I am not sure whether this is the proper place to post them. These of the latest videos by YUZU FAIRY & ECOVAIL. They are both of Fantasy on Ice in Kobe 2017 with SUBTITLES. They both focus on Yuzuru. Part 1 is the opening, "Cat's Eye" and the backstage discussion between Nobu, Yuzu, Marin Honda and Akiko Suzuki. Part 2 is Chopin and his interview.
  4. Another fan made video with clips of Fantasy on Ice 2017 (by kuwa eyoki):
  5. Thanks again, Elaine! First thing I have to do is find a friend or two who is/are willing to take a few days off to help me and my wife because I am in a wheelchair. The thought of spending a few days watching figure skating isn't all that appealing to most of my friends, even if it is an all expense paid trip! I will follow your advice and the advice provided by Vadrouille. As I said to Vadrouille, I would love to meet you guys if I do go.
  6. Hello Vadrouille! A fellow member of the old Yuzuru Hanyu Forum. Thank you very much for the information! It's not that easy for me to travel because I have to arrange for someone too help us because I am in a wheelchair. I would like to rent a wheelchair accessible van at the airpport so that we can travel without limitations. If I do go, I would love to meet you and other members of this forum who are attending. I should get in touch with Claire.
  7. Thanks Elaine for the information! Since you've been there before, any suggestions as to a place to stay for the Autumn Classic International?
  8. True... he is wearing socks to cover his ankles in that picture. The tease!
  9. He probably won't need a costume...
  10. Does anybody know the name of the hotel that the skaters will stay in during this year's Autumn Classic International? If not, does anybody know the name of the hotel that the skaters stayed in during last year's Autumn Classic International?
  11. I think I should join you guys so that we can get Yuzu's attention! Hey Hydro! I told you to stay optimistic. Looks like everything's gonna work out for you!
  12. This is an old video of a TV program that was broadcast two weeks post-Sochi Olympics which most of you have probably seen. I initially saw this video as well as another one dealing with his popularity post-Sochi on Dailymotion, but those videos appear to have been deleted. I am posting it because I just ran across it on YouTube and thought that some of the newer fans may not have seen it. It is a program about the popularity and charm of Yuzuru Hanyu, particularly amongst female fans. This is not a translation of the video. I am just paraphrasing some of the things that I noted in watching the video: (1:20) Many female fans thought that he looked like a male character from the world of animation (especially women's magazine manga). (1:46) A group of girls said that the more they looked at him the more "oujisama"-like (prince -like) he looked. (1:55) They talked about being conflicted between him being "kakkoii" (handsome) or "kawaii" (cute). "Kakkoii" is not just restricted to the face, but encompasses the whole package – face and body. (2:00) They then talked about how "kawaii" (cute) Yuzuru can be and showed the picture of Yuzuru with the embarrassed smile, scratching his head following his free skate at the 2013 Grand Prix Final in Fukuoka. (2:09) A woman talked about how clear and white his skin is. (2:24) A woman said that if her daughter brought him home, she might / would bypass her daughter and date him herself. (2:40) Females were describing him as "sutairu ga kireii" (style is beautiful), "sutairu ga ii" (style is good) and "kireii" (beautiful). (3:10) Again, a woman said that he looked like a male character from the world of animation/manga. (3:20) They then went to an animation school to see whether there was anything to Yuzuru looking like a character from the world of animation/manga. (3:34) The woman at the animation school said that the fact that he is slim and tall with some feminine features is probably the reason why he is said to resemble a character from the world of animation/manga. (3:51) They discovered that Yuzuru's body has the same proportions as male characters in animation/manga (8 segments). (4:00) They compared Yuzuru's 8 segments to the 6 segments of the typical Japanese male as represented by the poor TV host. (4:11) They also discovered that male characters in animation/manga are drawn with long necks (which is considered attractive) and that Yuzuru has a similar long neck. (5:00) Showed the large number of magazines featuring Yuzuru on the cover and referred to "Hanyu Fever". (5:18) One woman said that she really likes the way Yuzuru squats next to the boards before his name is called and slaps the boards as he backs away to take his position for the competition. (5:31) Another woman said that she really likes Yuzuru's facial expression when he does his pistol pose. She thought that it was a manly/ masculine look. (5:42) They gathered a small group of females aged from their 10's to their 40's and played videos of Yuzuru and asked them to pause the videos whenever they saw something that they liked. (6:01) One of the females said that she really liked Yuzuru's "guts pose" after landing his jumps. The young girl said that he looked like he was expressing "yatta!" (I did it! Or an equivalent colloquial English face would be "Yes!"). (6:22) Some females liked the fact that the sleeve of his jacket was a bit long covering his hand and showing only his fingers or fingertips. They thought it looked cute. (6:52) Another girl said that she really liked his hair which looked really smooth and shiny. (7:13) Everyone loved his smile – the one where he was going through the crowd at either the Sendai City Hall or when he was visiting the Miyagi Prefecture Governor's office after the Olympics. (7:23) Yuzuru Hanyu is also popular with foreign females. (8:02) One Russian girl thought that he was a kind person and that Russian girls would think he is really cute. (8:13) But, they said that Japanese girls/women and foreign girls/women seem to be attracted to Yuzuru for different reasons. (8:15) Japanese girls were attracted to him as a potential boyfriend, mate. (8:30) Foreign girls/women seem to think of him as being too young to be a mate. One woman said that he looked about 15 years old and that she would think of him as being a younger brother. (8:43) They asked three foreign females how old he looked and one of the females said 12 years old with a real baby face. (9:09) They asked these three foreign females what sort of relationship they would like with Yuzuru and they said that they saw him as a younger brother or a friend because he looked like a fun person to be with. (9:27) Back on the street, one foreign female said that she liked the fact that he was forward-looking and that he did not like to lose. (10:00) They were attracted not only by his athletic abilities, but because of his personality – like his determination to try to help the people of Tohoku. (10:29) Back in the studio, they mentioned that Yuzuru's popularity spanned generations. Since then, Yuzuru's popularity and charm have increased exponentially.
  13. Yuzuru thanked the audience for their support and said that he had not expected to win. What he was struggling to say was he thought that it was the support and applause of the audience that had made him strong (enough to win).
  14. Maybe Nathan is trying to emulate Yuzuru in every way!
  15. Thanks to kaerb for her translations of Kenji's Room Episodes 1 and 2! 16. Hydro, you trying to get me emotional?... I'm not crying... Well almost...
  17. Jack Gallagher of Japan Times Sports is another big fan of Yuzuru. In his December 1, 2015 article in The Japan Times Sports, "Hanyu's Greatness Confirmed at NHK Trophy", he stated: "A gifted athlete and an entertaining showman, Hanyu has it all and a great personality on top of it. "When I think of the ideal face of Japan in the 21st century, I think of Hanyu. "A person with limitless potential, who is going to be successful at whatever he does." http://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2015/12/01/figure-skating/hanyus-greatness-confirmed-at-nhk-trophy/#.WUWvMmjyvaQ
  18. OMG! You're right. I just googled it. The Japanese have us doing it now!
  19. The Japanese love their Wasei Eigo – cannibalizing bits and pieces of English words and forming new ones that only the Japanese understand. And only the Japanese could conceive of the combination of "glamorous camping"! I always get a laugh when I hear Wasei Eigo. The first time I ever heard it was when one of my relatives was visiting from Japan and she used a Wasei Eigo phrase as if it was English and the Canadian person that she was speaking to had a WTF look on his face. I think that "glamping" is going to end up sounding like "grumping" or "grumpy" when spoken by a Japanese person.
  20. You're crying? On this Planet Hanyu of Super Women, I'm destined to be a sad Tissue Box forever...
  21. I'm really aging myself, but I remember hearing this song when I was on vacation in Japan in 1983. I liked it then and now I have a reason to like it again. Very nostalgic and stuck in my head now too!
  22. Not that I really care, but I don't understand why everyone is bashing Yuzu's singing ability without actually having heard him sing. I have no idea whether he is tone deaf or not, but I refuse to speculate without any solid evidence. As Hydro pointed out, he was not singing in that Xylitol White CM clip. He was just being asked to say "white" ("howaito") in a certain way which he had difficulty doing. This "H-O-W-A-I-T-O" was what they were attempting to achieve:
  23. Dick Button commenting on Yuzu's SP at the Sochi Olympics:
  24. The only way an autobiographical movie would work for me is if Yuzu starred in it himself and did his own skating. He is the only one that would be able to capture the look, character and charisma that is Yuzuru Hanyu, not to mention the skating. If he made the movie after the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, he could probably still play his 15-year-old self! (Without CG or makeup!)
