Okay so an interesting convo came up between a friend and me and so I'd like some other skating people to weigh in. Would you rather have a World title or an Olympic medal that isn't gold? For this poll they are mutually exclusive.

So yeah, if you had a chance to be a 2x world champ, would you forfeit one of those titles to have an Olympic medal that is not gold?

It’s early days yet but that’s what makes it so fun. Get in your Olympics predictions! Who do you think are the biggest favorites for gold, silver and bronze in all the disciplines? Who do you think will even get to go, in cases of closely-run contests for spots? Who do you think can be a big breakthrough this season and thus maybe spoil some plans? Who of the oldies might surprise us? Let us know!

This article is by a well-known Russian coach Viktor Kudryavtsev and is aimed at coaches teaching beginner skaters jump technique. While only tangentially interesting for Yuzu fans, it still highlights quite a few jump details and subtleties, so proved to be quite educational to me. The article is quite old (2013), so for the sake of Russian FS, I hope some things have changed. This is my first attempt at translating a true technical article on FS, so bear with me. Any criticism and corrections and questions are welcome! The original comes from here http://mosfigurist.ru/?p=1080 Jump arithmetic: mistake correction. Conditioning exercises for le…

As another great discussion has been started, this time about ballet and fs, I've opened up a separate thread for you all, so there is no need to worry about cluttering other threads! Thank you very much guys, I hope you continue on! Edit by Yatagarasu _______________________ Most of my ballet training was also based on the Vaganova method. I don't know all the particulars of Balanchine technique but yes, his ballets have a lot of very fast choreography. I'm not sure though if training to do fast footwork and jumps would affect Nathan's jump landings negatively. I would think speed would require even better plie and better strengt…

or trying to, I think is more about understanding feelings than dealing in facts. At least that is my impression, from my own efforts to do so: the upcoming writing here is the result of these efforts, and, as such, subjective in perspective and conclusions. Even if those conclusions are common among non-Nagoyans and even some, generally young, Nagoyans. To start with some facts, objectively seen, Nagoya is not only the third biggest urban political region of Japan, it's an economically succesful industrial region, with both strong economic as well as socio-cultural links both nationally and internationally. Located in a region that was of little p…

Bringing this over from the general thread, I'm asking to see who is interested in starting a mock judging panel. We would choose an event (possibly do a poll to see what everyone wants to see) and, well, judge it. We would just give GOEs and component scores, unless there is disagreement with among us about the technical calls that were actually made. The panel doesn't have to be restricted to nine people (more the better, actually) though I think we should try to restrict it to those who have a pretty good handle on IJS: Easily can identify jumps and has a basic understanding of their technique Can identify the basic turns and steps, at least in slow-mo (…
