WinForPooh Posted June 17, 2018 Share Posted June 17, 2018 I'm annoyed about the 'brave small nation Iceland' narrative because they played so dirty. I don't mind the ten men behind the ball kind of game. It's not the kind of football I like watching but if you're a good offensive team, you should be able to break such defences down, that's part of the game, too. But kicking players and stomping on their feet when they are close to breaking that defence down, cynically fouling and giving up free kicks instead of defending when open play gets interesting, that's just cheating. That's a deliberate tactic, and Iceland got away with a lot of it. It's a shitty tactic and the ref let them do it. Might as well have been watching Stoke (except for the season when they really played football). I don't care how small and brave the nation is.
