[2022] Winter Olympic Games (04.02-20.02) - Practice, Fluff and all the In-betweens

The way he's pushing so hard to get the 4A out now makes me wonder if the Olympics are it for him?  Is there any word out if he plans to continue post Olympics?  From the videos, it just does not look ready and really scary risk injury wise.

Watching the landing, I don't think he twisted his right ankle. It looks like a sprain. Maybe that's why he's lacing up his skates (that's a first aid for sprains) and kept going.

If it's just a sprain he should definitely be ready for Worlds with rehab. Tomorrow... I have no idea. This might be the sort of borderline situation that's really hard to call for him. Maybe he'll decide with tomorrow practice. Plush withdrew in Sochi didn't he. His hero did that, so there's precedent, so I'm sure that Yuzu would not feel guilty if he needs to prioritize his health.

(And to hell with antis and media and what not, I cannot give a f*** about them. Pray that he is healthy.)

Thanks for the insight on sprain vs twist, I wouldn't be able to differentiate lmao. He also appeared to smack his hip and knee hard enough to bruise pretty bad, that's gonna be tender for a bit

Well, it's not Rostelecom, when he was able to survive for few hours after incident purely on adrenaline and willpower. If it's something serious, it will definitely hurt as hell tomorrow.

Can the universe f****** give him a break? I know sometimes bad things happen to good people, but this is just too much. Damn it all!

God I hope not, he could easily compete another season or two.

I really hope it isn't too serious, if it is it could be the final nail in the coffin for him continuing to skate

This is the Olympics. It's not in Yuzu's character to withdraw. Even Rostelecom he didn't withdraw means here he wouldn't withdraw unless he cant walk at all

But this isn't 2018. Back then Yuzu knew he'd win without even going clean. And he probably also didn't want to disappoint the audience. But skating his FS only aggravated his injury.

Here, he basically has no chance of winning and only a slight chance of medaling. What would be the point of skating a FS with multiple mistakes, in pain, with painkillers, and making his injury worse?

We always joke about him never aging, but the truth is, he's not getting younger. And after so many injuries, his body is more prone to injuries, especially since he's probably been drilling countless 4As in the last couple of months. That kind of stress would weaken any ankle, let alone one that was already injured so often.

If he keeps pushing it despite being injured, he might never recover enough to do 4As again. I'm sure he's very well aware of these issues.

And like I said before, this is a bloody circus. It's really not worth it.

I do think that if he lands a nice 4A here, he won't continue. But it doesn't seem to be 4A at Olympics or nothing.

If it is serious enough to be an issue, withdrawing vs competing will come down to how obligated he feels to perform on Olympic ice, for his country and fans

And here I thought that I would wait till tomorrow to stress again sigh

I hope we're just catastrophizing and he's actually well

We won't know before tomorrow's practice probably :13877886:

Gonna try to catch some sleep now, hugs everyone

Yes but he has almost no chance of winning and surely he'd rather withdraw then possibly do irreversible damage that could mess with his chances of ever jumping 4A

I have watched athletes who carried on playing/ competing even though they injured their ACL or Achilles heel. 2012 or 2016 Olympics, one female badminton player insisted to carry on while sobbing. The referee kept asking her, she kept saying she can kept on playing. It was painful to watch. Her coach at the end had to come on court & tell her it's over. China was still dominating back then and she had no chance of medaling even if she was not injured.  And....she's Japanese. Japanese don't give up.

(I asked Mr google, her name is Sayaka Sato)

That's just one example. In Yuzu's case, he might go for the jumps that he can do while taking painkillers.

I think his chance of medaling is decent if he's uninjured, but if he is injured then it's practically zero. On top of that, staying here longer means more chances to be exposed to covid, so yeah none of it seems worth it just to get out a messy free (and the free will be messy if he's freshly injured). Write off this competition a confluence of bad luck. Honestly, it doesn't even feel like a real Olympics, and out of every skater here he needs the Olympics the least.

He fell on 4A in practice and something is definitely off with his ankle omg Yuzu jesus christ

God, that fall looked nasty. He doesn't look okay.

I'm just so angry right now, but I have absolutely nowhere to direct it. Why, why, why can't Yuzu get a damn break? These past four years have been so cruel to him! At least before Pyeongchang, he had plenty of happy moments along the way, but now it's just been injury on top of asthma on top of earthquakes on top of horrendous, blatant corrupt judging, and now this! Let him land this one fucking jump, universe!

I just hope he takes care of himself first. I hope he's all right 😭 I just want him to be happy and healthy.

Can someone tell him that watching him skating injured is the last thing I want to see?

Put it all over your Twitter and pray lurker Yuzu happens to see it /joking but kinda not

Yeah does anyone want to see 2018 Rostelecom again? I doubt it. I've never even revisited 2019 Worlds (where it's clear he hasn't fully recovered) or 2021 Worlds (****ing asthma). It's painful to see him struggle through a skate when we know he's in pain and it's far less than what he's capable of
