(Since they aren't paid anyway ) This issue was brought up at the ISU congress. It takes a long time to train judges and even though the judges themselves are volunteers, ISU bears a considerable cost training them and providing them with suitable accommodation, board and pays for flights and other competition expenses. A proposal was made to ensure judges served for several seasons, but the proposal was rejected. Not only is there a dearth of judges, some of the smaller feds do not have any judges or tech specialist representation because they do not have enough people putting themselves forward to embark on the training programmes. Some smaller comps, there is such a lack of judges, that there is no back up judge if someone falls ill or tests positive for COVID. The referee has had to submit scores in order for there to be quorum, for the judging panel. Astonishing really, but somehow also. not surprising. Link to comment
Yuzurella
2 hours ago, Perelandra said: The i scope data and the ice coverage with jump locations display looks really good for audience to see and clearly there is a system of technology which can analyse all of the important data from any given skater's performance, and produce objective measurements. The analysis seemed to be completed quite quickly and the data presentation is plain to see for judging /scoring and available on screens. Comments which allude to AI adding difficulties for judges because it will take too long to get results back, are clearly nonsensical. This video shows the pictorial / numerical analysis of the performance in real time and the time taken to award a score, did not seem any longer compared with competitions where technology is not used for judging. (May be I'm missing something, but excessive resistance to the use of technology to aid judging seems illogical) This is such a pathetic excuse for not using modern technology. If anything, the use of technology and AI speeds things up significantly and measures everything with much greater precision than humans could. Therefore, there's hardly a sport that hasn't introduced modern technology in decision making or at least to support humans in making decisions. Let's get real. The only reason why the ISU is so resistant to the introduction of new technology is the fact that they would lose their power over scoring the athletes in any way they like and picking their preferred winners of competitions. Xiupia
According to some tweets from Japanese fanyus that have read Number magazine latest issue, the one where there’s an interview with Brian Orser, Yuzu DID contact his coaches about his decision before the presscon: If anyone manages to share the interview! LOL How interesting, so according to Brian, him, Tracy, probably Ghislain (and maybe his japanese coaches?) were quite aware of what was going to happen in the coming days. Very sweet of everyone involved to keep quiet about it, and the interview seems to speak highly of Yuzu‘s character as well. [NEWS] Link to comment

[NEWS] I can post this now since Brian has made it public by giving an interview. Ghislain was contacted by Yuzu on Sunday night (Toronto time). Yuzu wanted Ghislain to know that he was going to be holding a press conference to announce his retirement from competition. Yuzu assured Ghislain that he was happy and at peace with his decision. Ghislain said that although it was a sad day for Yuzu’s fans, it was the right decision and that Yuzu has his complete support. Link to comment

umeko
Hello from Sendai The Japanese sports magazine "Number" published an interview with Brian. The magazine has an issue number of 1056 and a release date of August 4. A small portion of the interview A few days before the July 19 press conference, Yuzuru contacted Brian and Tracy. He told them he was turning into a professional skater and thanked them. Brian noticed that Yuzuru did not use the word "retire" at the press conference. Brian thought Yuzuru was communicating at the press conference his intention to continue to grow. Brian has some new advice about 4A. Brian's message, "If you are yourself, that in itself is a success." The Cricket family will always welcome Yuzuru. The two-page interview was substantial. Brian understands and trusts Yuzuru very well. Yuzuru has a good relationship with all of his coaches. Link to comment
Perelandra
Once again Yuzu demonstrates how mature, considerate and courteous he is towards the people who are important to him. The majority of those selected confidantes showed respect for Yuzu and kept their counsel until the press conference. Whilst it is shameful that there was a leak and that it made it into the press, the impact of the leaked announcement was overshadowed by the manner in which Yuzu conducted himself. Yuzu delivered his announcement eloquently and gave all his supporters a hopeful message and he appeared content with the decision and his future plans. This is far more meaningful than a poor quality 'shock' tactic article Hoping, hoping , hoping for some news of Yuzu's exciting new endeavours and an adventure that we can all be part of The journey continues....... ps. @caramelicht @Geo1 is savant, party to arcane knowledge, do not question the veracity of the messages, it is accurate, just believe in him. I don't know how to explain it. I'm convinced that taking into account all factors (mainly Yuzu's mistreatment in competitions) it was the best decision possible. But when I read about it this morning I thought about all the time before the press conference, when we were still unaware and the announcement itself and felt sad again. Which doesn't make sense anymore. But I can see I'm not alone. Link to comment

Especially today after reading about Yuzu letting Brian, Ghislain and Tracy know in advance about his decision. For the past 2 weeks, at random times, I would think about Yuzu not going to competition anymore and feel upset about it. Though I understand that’s the best decision for him but I guess it takes time. Hopefully, we get to see him soon. Link to comment
