From what I got from the original tweet, that's from a DS game that person's son is playing. He named the characters that. And apparently some characters are female There might be more funny details that I missed though... Link to comment

Yep, basically they were amused when they looked at what their son had called his Pokemon (particularly bemused as to why the son even included Brian). Also, the disregard for gender was typical of their son. I guess their son was raised on a diet of Yuzu and figure skating Link to comment

Yeah, I don't blame him on that either! But yeah, after I saw people mention it, I kind of paid attention and it does tend to happen. He doesn't spend the entire time looking down but it's more noticeable in H&L. Not so much in LGC where he is actively interacting with the audience and judges. These are just things that caught my attention but they may not be very noticeable to others, as seen here. Link to comment

I'm more amused that the son has like 3 Azumarills and 1 Maril. I guess he was breeding them??? Link to comment

I admit I never noticed either, but I was thinking... given that H&L is a more introspective program, wouldn't it actually make sense to look down? Of course, I don't know if that's why he does it, but looking down on an introspective program doesn't seem at odds to me... And shame on me, I did not even notice that was Pokemon... Link to comment

And even after that I am not sure he really looks down a lot, at least it never has caught my attention too much. Probably it has something to do with the concentration and the program itself. He tried to look at the audience in LGC. I never actively noticed it either until it was pointed out but I'm still not exactly bothered by it. Especially in H&L, which is a very introspective program, it actually kind of fits, it adds to the pensiveness. Tbh, people complaining about Yuzu looking down sound to me just like the people complaining about his toe pointing- it's nitpicking. Eta: @KatjaThera we posted it at the same time Link to comment
axelsandwich
The Pokemon talk got me on a random tangent thinking about what the various top figure skaters would be if they were Pokemon and somehow I feel like Yuzu would be a good Gallade (a huge part is because its baby/primary form is Ralts) Link to comment

Sorry for OT. Link to comment
CupidsBow
I like a lot of skaters I find myself sort of rooting for everyone in some way, the only one i don't particularly enjoy watching out of the top men is Nathan tbh. but when it comes to everyone against each other ... sorry Shoma, sorry Javi, sorry Boyang etc. but I want Yuzu to whoop your butts. But even that comes down to I want Yuzu to skate well, and Yuzu doing good just...equals him taking gold (though he was amazing at 4cc imo and still got silver). Link to comment

Tbh, people complaining about Yuzu looking down sound to me just like the people complaining about his toe pointing- it's nitpicking. Exactly how I feel. He did used to have a habit of looking down a lot (not as much now) and when he did this in H&L some people were quick to grab onto that little detail - "oh, he's back to his old habits! I hate it when he looks down!" Honestly, because of how introspective H&L is I felt it kind of fit the program. I must admit though that I tend to be more lenient with Yuzu mainly because there is no harsher critic for Yuzuru Hanyu than Yuzu himself. Which means, I know that he is aware of every little criticisms and is actively trying to find ways to improve - the way he now releases his foot in his Biellman is a great example. I'm actually more scared of the day when he is actually satisfied of a performance rather than saying he needs to practice more. Link to comment

Of course, when it happens during his set up for jumps, then it becomes concentration mode looking down and not instrospectively feeling the nature and trees looking down. Link to comment
