Well, in the past they used multiple translations without any credits.

Now they gave credit, but boy, using the full x pages long transcript 1:1 and not even asking. That's very unprofessional, especially for a website linked to an official organization like the International Olympic Committee.

Not to mention that OC is a for-profit organization that generates revenues from the trafic on their website. Using someone else's translation without permission is, at best, unethical.

It's worth saying also that several of those translators have clearly expressed in the past that they did not want their work used in the press because they were not professional and could not take the responsibility of having made a mistake that might misrepresent the original meaning.

Team China withdrew their entire team from WTT, I wonder if they got some sort of sanction for that or if the ISU was understanding enough  this time since Chinese Team wouldn't be considered a big enough audience draw for WTT.

Anyone have a link to an update on Japan's current policy to allow foreign athletes into the country? Last I heard they were supposed to go through a 2-week pseudo quarantine/training, but I'm curious if they have other requirements regarding when they can enter and when they have to leave the country after they've arrived.

Canada I think technically could've sent Keegan since he lives in Alaska and I don't believe they have a quarantine requirement like Canada does.

Edited to add: On the exemption for athletes, I believe that whatever policy they had was put on hold mid-March due to increased cases? Feel free to correct me here.

It's possible, even though the China Fed says all their athletes were vaccinated prior to Worlds (and I don't doubt that, per se) but possibly just before they flew.  Perhaps one of them got Covid (which you can get, even if vaccinated - you just are not going to die) and the entire team is playing it safe especially with Covid conditions in Osaka.

Oh dear lord why are you encouraging him.

...I bet if he manages to land one in practice he's happy with before the competition, he will actually try it.

If I'm not wrong I commented this before knowing the arena, now that I know it's the same one from the 2017 NHK trophy, hell no I don't want him trying anything "funny" at all too many bad memories :headdesk2:

I have to think of this conversation in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

“Seems silly, doesn’t it? A wedding. Given everything that’s going on.”

- “Maybe that’s the best reason to have it. Because of everything that’s going on.”

In a way, this competition may give Yuzu the opportunity to make peace with the past and get over those negative memories related to this venue.

The darker the foreshadowing - the stronger is the reason and drive to shut it down with something good :winky:

If I remember, Yuzuru revisited the site of his collision with Han Yan in a later competition in that same arena. He skated to the spot where it happened and touched the ice. He appeared to be getting some closure for himself.  Does anyone else remember it?  I wonder if he will do that again if WTT actually happens.

I"m surprised at how many people are surprised that Yuzu is going to WTT. I really didn't expect otherwise. While they may not support him much, JSF knows he is their cash cow. And he may really want to skate that free program much better too...

Yeah, I figured they would send Yuzu for $$$ reasons, but I thought maybe they would send Yuma to give him more international comp experience and build up his reputation heading into the Olympic season. Similarly, I thought they might send Shoma to give him another chance at a comeback and boost his rep too.

I think Yuzu would have skipped WTT if he had a choice and return to his cave to drill 4A. He is obviously not comfortable competing while COVID is still a danger. They are rolling out the vaccines and there is 0 reason to take risks for something like WTT at this time. Just wait a little longer until everyone gets vaccinated.

I am going to be little biased because he was one of my favorite skaters before he retired so for me it's Patrick and Yuzu rivalry, I still remember the way they were "fighting" to see who would be the one to score over 100 in the short and each of them getting closer and closer, each of them chasing the OGM like there was no tomorrow Yuzu's with Parisian Walkways and everything was just too iconic

For me it's Patrick and Yuzu as well! :tumblr_inline_mqt4graWWO1qz4rgp:

Their rivalry was really interesting, with Patrick being the "unbeatable" skater at that time and Yuzu being the younger skater(at 18-19 years old) who was catching up and rapidly improving, heading into the limelight. The media in 2014 was all about how the OGM was "Patrick's to lose", which is ironic considering how in the present the media is so focused on pushing Nathan to that exact spot.

Perhaps the longest rival of Yuzu's was Patrick (correct me if I'm wrong) and at that time Yuzu really was motivated by Patrick's skating skills, that's why it was so memorable. In the recent seasons, it's almost like a battle of who has the highest TES and then the PCS follow that score. Now it's as if the judges pay less attention and put less value into rewarding the PCS.

I really appreciated how leading into Sochi -skating skills were also a major factor.

I think the Javi rivalry was the best in terms of sportsmanship and excitement. Knowing they trained together made it even better - like there was no possible way of showing up and surprising each other because they were both completely aware of each other's capabilities. With Patrick, Yuzu was still coming into his potential. I don't think Patrick considered Yuzu a rival until the short at Sochi. I know he'd beaten him before and had just won GPF, but I think Patrick didn't quite see that it wasn't a fluke and that he himself still had a good buffer if he skated to his usual standard. Shoma is interesting because you can see that chasing Yuzu has pushed him and when things come together for Shoma we get these moments of brilliance but it's also clear that Shoma is just supremely talented. I think Javi is the only true rival Yuzu has ever really had, except perhaps now with Nathan. The difference with Javi was the friendship that underpinned that rivalry and brought out the absolute best in it.

I agree, I feel like Javi and Yuzu was the best in terms of dispalying a good & healthy friendly rivalry, building and helping each other to improve and skate their best. It was really sweet to see, especially that iconic moment before the flower ceremony in Pyeongchang when all three medalists hugged and both Yuzu/Javi were teary-eyed. Their sportsmanship and friendship is beautiful~ :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw::tumblr_inline_nhkf04zUM41qid2nw:

TBH I was surprised Yuzu mentioned WTT during his WC interview. I can't help to think he also mentioned 4CC before 2019 Japan National and then we knew the result.

So I think he might consider much about WTT.

Yess you said everything, it's amazing to see how far Yuzu has come when we look back at those times, in the end he was just an 18-19 years old boy going against these top skaters (in special Patrick) and really just trying to become a top male figure skater as well and now he's the GOAT it's nostalgic to see how far he had come really. I think Patrick was Yuzu's longest rival but it could be Javi too so I don't actually know (they're both amazing in the end though) :tumblr_inline_mm2wbaeqQM1qz4rgp:

While the list of participants for WTT was announced yesterday, I assumed the skaters know about their attendance right after Worlds?

Looking at  Kirsten's comment below, it seems like she was still in Stockholm if she and Mike could decide whether to fly to Japan from Sweden direct. So quarantine at Canada is not an issue here to stop Canadian from participating in WTT since they can skip half of the quarantine by going to Japan straight?

I wonder if there's any penalty for them for opting out of WTT and if Yuzu already knows that he's selected to attend WTT when he's at Stockholm, does he has a choice to opt out even if he has no injury reason (or maybe he just readily accept it...)?

Oh Lord...that's where he got the injury that nearly prevent him from going to Pyeongchang. We have trauma. Lots and lots of trauma

Honestly, I am not worried at all. I have gained so much mental strength after witnessing how he has got up time and again. That's how he has inspired me, to look at challenges straight in the eye and feel confident that I can and will overcome any difficulties that come my way.
