San is a Japanese honorific, adding san after the person's name is a mark of respect. Other honorifics:  sensei- teacher, senshu -athlete, sama denotes even more respect than san. Just a few examples

    She is 89?!? OMG! I thought she's in her mid/late-60s. She's in such an incredibly good shape, both mentally and physically. Amazing! :cheer:

    San is used how others use Mr or Ms - it is a wonderful title as it is gender neutral (and also doesn't show women's marital status either!)

    Thank you Pammi for the explanation. I guess it's safer to use San for formality when addressing a male or female person 😜

    Sensei is 先生。 In ancient China, we also call teacher or other intellectuals as 先生Senshu is 選手. Yup, it's mainly use for athletes.

    But in modern days, Chinese use 先生 similarly as Mr. Or 老先生 when addressing old man. Not use for addressing ladies.

    In Malay language (national language of Brunei) - Sama means same 🤪

    Perelandra, you seem to know Japanese language 🤔

    Well it would be nice if we could all use it :) 

    In the UK we have many choices I suppose - Mr Miss Ms Mrs Mx (for eg. non binary ppl) then things pertaining to someone's profession like Dr Rev etc - just having one like San would be so much easier!!! :2thumbsup:
