You know, off-topic, but I wouldn't be too quick to embrace China. While they do love Yuzu, never forget what they have done to Han Yan.

Sure, Just I’m still not over how almost all of team Japan treated him. At this rate, JSF is the lowest of low. Any other federation would treat him better.

btw, my comment was not in any case related to China's political issues as a country. Let's not dive into super unrelated stuffs by overreading a random rant over JSF and their pets.

WTF

So this was the plan all the way? The JSF’s whole deal with USFS and RUS was bunch of bronze/silver medals in exchange of Yuzu? so disgusting. Introducing “next generation” nepotism kids such as Shoma and Yuma as the "ideal Japan". Now with those much desired medals of pets and humiliation of Yuzu, what has JSF achieved? No, I really want to know. Yuzu was right in a sense that the past 4 years were the price for his gold in Pyeongchang, but he still didn’t get it accurately. The past 4 years were his punishment by big federations because he rightfully got the gold over the pets.

I wish Yuzu was born in China and not Japan. At least China doesn’t trade once-in-life talents for bunch of worthless metals and ranks for pets. At least Chinese skaters were sincerely in awe of Yuzu, they did everything they could to cheer him up, they were not praising his fake rival in his most vulnerable moment.

I don't really know why are you surprised. They tried to achieve for a long time. In a way, all 4 disciplines were a perfect culmination of last 4 years.

But that aside, I kind of... get... their desperation. If you compare TV ratings since 2015, their average % only drops more and more. Even for comps with Yuzuru. To some extent it's probably because of rising popularity of online streaming (legal one I mean), but also this season, Olympic season (!!), they didn't broadcast whole GP. Hell, I'm not even sure if they planned to show in full their own GPF live. I wonder how this situation will look from now on.

Anyway, I hope Hashimama will lose her bid for Olympics 2030.✌

Song lyrics (all content in brackets are T/N):

(Commentary VO: “I am fortunate to have known your peach blossom face, which brings me many days of spring across winding paths.”)
羽落 Feathers fall [羽 is first character in “Hanyu”]
生生不息 To no end [common saying, uses 生 which is also second character in “Hanyu”]
结满 Fully bloom upon [结 is first character in “Yuzuru”]
思念的弦 The strings of longing [弦 is second character in “Yuzuru”]
风起 The wind rises
动了眉眼 And raises its brow
在人间 In this mortal realm
羽落 Feathers fall
生生不息 To no end
结满 Fully bloom upon
思念的弦 The strings of longing
盛世 A golden age
东方美颜 A beauty of the East
在祝愿 Are wishing well
容颜如玉 Face like jade
身姿如松 Posture like a pine tree
翩若惊鸿 Flies like a startled goose
婉若游龙 Graceful like a winding dragon
时光作度 As time crosses
眉目传书 And your eyes tell a story
羽化而生 Born after metamorphosis [uses 羽生, or “Hanyu”]
丝竹结弦 The strings connect upon the sizhu [traditional wooden string Chinese instruments; “strings connect” or 结弦 = “Yuzuru”]
幸得 Fortunate
识卿桃花面 To have known your peach blossom face
从此 Brings me
阡陌多暖阳 Many days of warm sun across winding paths
身无 Bodies have no
彩凤双飞翼 Wings like those of a phoenix
心有 Hearts have
灵犀一点通 Understanding like a rhino horn [the rhino horn historically was considered a magical and sensitive object. Together with the previous three lines, forms a saying about two people who cannot fly to meet one another, but whose hearts are linked]
羽落 Feathers fall
生生不息 To no end
结满 Fully bloom upon
思念的弦 The strings of longing
风起 The wind rises
动了眉眼 And raises its brow
在人间 In this mortal realm
羽落 Feathers fall
生生不息 To no end
结满 Fully bloom upon
思念的弦 The strings of longing
盛世 A golden age
东方美颜 A beauty of the East
在祝愿 Are wishing well
在祝愿 Are wishing well

General T/N: As noted by Li Yugang, a lot of the lyrics come from classic poetry. Many of the lines are often used in romantic contexts, or to show deep love for someone.

I can still barely believe Li Yugang wrote a song for and inspired by Yuzu. Li Yugang is very famous and popular in China. The way he incorporated the characters of Yuzu's name into the song lyrics is brilliant. He is a true poet.

Only a true artist and genius like Yuzu would inspire an artist like Li Yugang to write such a beautiful song for him. This is a whole new level of GOAT. :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

If you haven't listened to the song yet, it's also on YouTube.

At this point Yuzu might as well skate for Belgium, and the Belgian Fed would absolutely push him the way JSF would never think of doing...

(I absolutely jest, but hey, maybe he thinks of getting his first Euros title??? lmao :graucho::jester::animated-smileys-disguised-062:)

Can you believe the trash Didier said in 2019 that the gap between Yuzu and Chen shouldn't be 40 points and JSF should protest. But JSF is trashier than the actual trash, the Japanese judge was the one who underscored him the most in GPF19. Even Satan Didier is shook by JSF.

Having traveled around twitter and other social media, I'm now back to this lovely planet which makes me feel homely and safe. I want to stay here as long as it exists. I don't know how many of you are still here in 3 or 4 years (or 10 years? hahaha), but I really look forward to the day when we could cheer for Yuzu and shower the rink with pooh rains again. (Mr. Pandemic, it's time to leave this galaxy and never return.)

Yuzu is a real gem, a blessing for not only figure skating but everyone who has watched his performance. A genius skater with a strong will and a tender heart. I'm so at peace with everything now, ISU, JSF, the scoring system, 4A, injuries, some two-faced media, hypocrites, or whatever, because I know it takes a long time of struggle and suffering to make a difference. Yuzu has been fighting so many forces at once, unprecedented and unbelievable.

I don't worry about his retirement. Que sera, sera. He shines whether he's competing or not. I just wish him safety and full recovery. He's already done a lot. I hope that from now on, he skates only for himself. Plus, there are so many things in life to enjoy besides skating!

P.S., I just got a kitten and I named her Miss Quad Axel. She's cheerful and very proud. :pudding:

(Oh I'm not a native English speaker so perhaps some sentences read kind of weird hahaha. Wish everyone health and good luck, yay!!!)

Unfortunately, they've had a stick up their asses for this entire reason. They don't want him to get medals and have been sabotaging him at every opportunity. Well, congrats, they've finally succeeded, but if they think they can manufacture even a fraction of Yuzu's legacy and worldwide adoration, they're in for a surprise. Medals can be bought, but everything about Yuzu's popularity is organic. If Yuzu decides to bow out, all we have to do is start a countdown for when JSF uses him for clicks and clout because rent is due and their favorites can't pay the bills.

AMAZING

I was talking to my mom about Yuzu's incredible popularity in China. She said that one of the reasons why Yuzu is so popular is probably because he is the perfect ideal of a Chinese gentleman in the classic sense. I googled this a bit and found this in an article in Britannica

A junzi (gentleman) is "a person whose humane conduct (ren) makes him a moral exemplar."

"...the junzi is cultured (wen) and knows how to act and speak appropriately in any situation; he is thus an exemplar whose virtuous influence promotes a flourishing human community."

On the other hand, a xiaoren (literally little/small person, but that term has nothing to do with physical size) is someone who is petty and "who cannot transcend personal concerns and prejudices and acts only for his own gain".

Also, after I sent my mom a link of Li Yugang's song, she wrote a small poem in Chinese. I translated it with my limited Chinese and the help of Google Translate.

Hanyu Yuzuru

Beauty from the east

Transcendental and refined with every gesture

He came into the world like an immortal god

Leaving all the beauty in the mortal realm
