  1. I...don't.... really know what to say (but nooooo Boyang please go to TCC, your SS and TR and PCS in general will thank you and I wanted that TCC podium in Helsinki and Zuzu watching your 4Lz and you watching Zuzu land 4A...ok I've stepped onto the Fantasyland here, but you get my current feelings) the reasons given by TSL sound so weird and OOC for many of the parts involved (unless it's about Brian wanting more freedom form the fed but the fed sounded enthusiast about the chance to have Boyang there, and why drag Lori and David in the mess?), but their intel on coaching changes have been reliable so far... I wish they weren't I'll be so so disappointed if Boyang doesn't move...proportional to how much happy I was when we had the news...and I'd also be quite worried tbh. His team has done so many good things, taught him well, helped him improve but TCC could make him step up. I can't imagine why the fed and Brian would throw those words about Boyang going to Canada one month only to take them back two month later... why???????????
  2. tbh, if they really wanted to have at least a little bit of objective scoring, they could have at least removed the 'guidelines' part. If judges aren't even able to follow 'requirements' and 'must', go figure what happens when you say, again and again, 'guidelines'. At this point what even is the sense of searching for bias or punishing judges who don't score in the corridor? They are merely not applying the guidelines, as ISU kindly reminded them it's within their rights to do. Why and how on heart can you punish them, after you told them: whatever? It's the same if in basketball they said the referee: hey, the ball needs to go in the basket to count as a goal, but hey, it's a guideline. If a player misses the basket by 1 m, you can still count it as a goal if you want, eh! This to me is ten thousand times worse than giving half BV for a fall. Some people complain that a fall is basically a failed element and should get a 0, but isn't this whole thing about guidelines much, much, much worse? And much more incomprehensible? And totally indefensible? I really wonder how legit ISU punishment towards the two chinese judges is. Literally there is NOTHING in the darn rulebook that can really be used to say 'their scores were objectively wrong, so they must be punished'. Maybe they read the guidelines, then they thought: I'll do as it pleases me. And they were basically told to do so by the ISU. Those who scored in the corridor maybe followed the guidelines, maybe not, but what makes their choice more legit, if there is nothing all of them must do? Just because they were the majority? what if only one judge followed the guidelines for all skaters while the majority was overly strict with a group and overly generous with another group, and that poor judge finds himself flagged for being biased against the second group when in truth he was the only non-biased judge in that panel? All of this as if bullets themselves weren't vague enough to begin with. IOC should really give a good read to the handbook and reconsider keeping FS as an olympic sport, maybe ISU would finally change that idiotic phrasing. We can't erase subjectivity but maybe finally there would be not so blatant leeway left to any crazy score. And the worst of all of this, more than making fans angry and alienating part of those potential viewers they so sough, is that they do all of this to the skaters, who works they asses off everyday for years and would deserve as bare minimum to be judged according to fair rules. And there just can't be fair rules, if judges are allowed to do whatever they want, and even encouraged to do so, with all this stressing that 'rules' are 'only guidelines'
  3. All in his calculations
  4. has it really got longer? Then why it still feels sooooo short And have we ever got actual, clear and unmistakable confirmation that HYK is Yuzu's gala program? Why don't they tell us they have recorded the music? it's not like Yuzu can put piano and pianists in his pockets and bring them around otherwise ISU would have made everyone bring their ensembles to play their music live, so much better than CDs or, god forbid, USB sticks (question for people who have read Aoi Honoo I without the translation: did Yuzuru really had a piano in his house? In the english translation it's mentioned in the earthquake chapter, I was wondering who in his family played it...it could explain why he likes piano so much, or maybe it's irrelevant, but I'm curious) re: Kozuka as conversation has somehow moved past it as I typed my wall-text, under spoiler unfortunate comments aside, I think Kozuka is involved into the production of a new type of blades and maybe he has even made some researches on jumps and run simulations for 4A and quints... I'm sure Yuzuru would enjoy to talk with him about those subjects I'd love to watch such a conversation I think of all the not-so-close senpai of Yuzu, the one who got Yuzu's mentality better is Tatsuki Machida with his mouse fighting the lion and winning comparison. But maybe that's because Machida is the 'philosopher on ice' *conspiracy theory* maybe that's why he can't get canadian gold, he needs to see a shiny gold thing to really fight for that the tiny piece of gold in the upper part is enough for kuyashii, but not enough to make his inner dragon come out and play
  5. Oh so they were really serious about that I had hope that with the rule change ISU had calmed down, so naive That there are people out there who enjoy current comps more than the old ones, supposedly 'more artistic', should be enough to tell them 'artistry' is too volatile a concept to became the main factor when ranking skaters in a competition. Also, when Peggy Fleming was competing, doubles and triples were what triples and quads are today, in terms of technical difficulty and boundaries of the sport. How downgrading that much from current skaters's technical ability in competition is supposed to work IN A SPORT is beyond me. Has anyone back in the 60s and 70s ever complained that they'd rather have all single jumps but done beautifully rather than see skaters jumping all those doubles and triples? Maybe yes, but It would only mean that for some people even double jumps were 'too much' for 'artistry'. And if not, if skaters could be artistic while executing the highest technical difficulty for the time, then what's the difference with what we have now? And there are already skaters doing every kind of 'embellishment' on triples and even quads. Smooth and effortless? Done. Transitions in and out? Done. Arms variations? Done. But hey, now ISU doesn't even want steps before jumps, suppressed the bullet for creative exit and apparently hates arms variations. Dear Peggy, don't blame quads if we see empty programs, blame your ISU and the ridiculous PCS scoring that's happened in the last years. And yet top skaters are the excellence in the whole history of FS. Just for the last Olympics, and leaving Yuzuru aside, S/M, S/H, V/M...you CAN'T tell me they are less 'artistic' than any older skater because of the technical requirements. They are the living, skating proof that true excellence is merging the highest athleticism with artistic expression. It makes me extremely sad that ISU wants to erase that legacy, and that is even thinking about that after the amazing OWG we've just had. And I'm really disappointed that in 4 years we could see Yuzuru's beautiful ideal of FS destroyed. ISU, if you want this misterious 'artistry' to be valued more, why don't you prevent your judges from linking PCS to TES? Or to reputation? Or from giving away GOE on mediocre jumps with long preparation? You put in your darn rules long preparation is a -GOE. Ugly landings are -GOE. And you made video were they literally count the number of seconds when a skater is disconnected from music during his program. I could easily swap your examples with some very recent skates but then your judges' scores tell me a different story than your explanatory video. Also, ISU, you want more creativity? Why don't you start making your judges stop giving full BV and +3 GOE for poor ChSq? Please and thank you. @Murieleirum it's such an awful joke that we have competent, amazing commentators like Max&Angelo and then people like Bianchetti jr and sr... and sadly those are the ones in prominent positions Can't they swap? I would gladly put up with idiotic commentaries if that meant having the more reasonable, knowledgeable people in key ISU roles...
  6. that's amazing! I love fireworks and I love H&L, this is sharing this here too because I've just added it to the Glossary (yeah, I'm updating it starting from the less useful things) and it made me crack but it's also informative and now the song is stuck in my head so I'm going to bring satellites down with me In the meanwhile Yuzuru is back to his cave he was just flooding the news for several days without a break and then he just vanished... such phenomenal ninja skills... ETA: @robin apparently you can't receive PM I wanted to PM you about the Event threads Index & guide
  7. thank you!!!!!!!!!!! FS fandom is so creative and funny, isn't it? Feel free to ask for clarifications/more entries! Actually there are a lot of terms already listed in the replies that I haven't added yet but they will be added, I promise!
  8. Actually, and idk how I could forget this, I think is a really apt yuzumoticon because it both portrays the feeling 'I'm soft' and it makes you feel like that too
  9. Alena Kostornaia? Yes, she's only still 14, iirc to turn senior she had to be 15 by 1st July, she misses the requisite by less than two months Imo she's one of those rare skaters for whom age limits don't apply, she's already so refined, I can't wait to see how much better she can get! Hopefully skating gods will spare her major injuries and growth issues (one reason why I'm happy Rika is already going senior, despite not winning any medal in JGPF or JWC, is that she has a whole season to get a bit of space all for herself and built her reputation before the debut of Eteri's stronger jr girls. Knock on wood that she'll overcome her nerves issues and shine)
  10. it's not stupid, I'm not really sure myself LOL I've seen 'I'm soft' it used a lot in the fandom but I guess it's not a specific Yuzuru fandom or FS fandom thing (it's an entry in the Urban dictionary, I'm guessing it spread through k-pop fandom or something), so I haven't included that yet. If you think it would help to add 'I'm soft' with something Yuzu-related as example, I can always add it to my to do list
  11. when are we going to know the assignments? I can't wait for another bloodbath among jr ladies
  12. How meaningful is it that the first pic of him wearing both his OGMs is with kids in a region hit by 2011 quake? he loves being lifted
  13. of course after rewatching the scene in question again and again, I also had to rewatch the whole program a few times, and then the finale, and then I had to wait till my melted self became solid enough to type LOL watching that hydroblade frame by frame it's so fascinating...Yuzu the human compass The conclusion of my studies: no, but sooooo close scarily close, tbh, a tiny mistake and he would have really splatted on his face he has an ongoing love affair with both the ice and danger But I might need some more rewatching yes, this seems like a wonderful idea
  14. if he's really kissed the ice he's got a really crazy control not to brush the ice too much and fall on his face (sorry the image won't leave my head, too hilarious) I need to rewatch more HD material before I give my answer (*so she said, before spending the following years looping the video, poll forgotten*)
  15. linking this because it has sliiiiightly to do with the worries about Yuzuru feeling the pressure and responsability and feeling forced to change or tone down some sides of himself. Yuzuru's elegant reaffirming his stance while being humble, amazing re: kiss or not kiss I was going to say no, but then I looked again and I can't tell anymore
  16. Congratulations to Yuzuru for the award! He deserved it for his character, his relentless but kind spirit and everything he overcame even more than for his sport achievements. He couln't have become two time OGM and a FS legend without all of that! It's so true he brings hope and joy, he's one of those human beings that can make people believe but he's also said things along the lines (huge paraphrasing here, I can't find the tweet in the sea of tweets) 'I am here as a figure skater, so I thought it's ok to behave like one and be Yuzuru Hanyu', so while he will always be aware of being a role model, he won't let this change his core. I don't think it will be the end of his public dispaly of his dorkiness, nor that he'll feel more kuyashii than he would have before whenever he'll mess a jump or even bomb a program. The guy always had sky-high expectation from himself anyway... hopefully he knows that he can meet all those expectations of 'role model' while still being himself. I mean, he got the award thanks to being himself, if that's not a testament to him doing well till now, idk what it is And even things like the gala and ice-shows shenanigans bring joy, even if sometimes they're not exactly...'dignified' I'd bet he knows, judging from how many of them he's been gifting us these past weeks... He'll probably become even more involved in the reconstruction efforts after his r********t, tho here, everyone have a happy Zu bestowing joy all around in the form of ice throwing tbh while the iconic Yagudin's Winter throwing snow was more 'static' and that makes it look a bit more theatrical to me, the 'dynamism' of Yuzu's throwing snow makes it feel absolutely natural and wonderful. The costant flow and the emotions expressed through Yuzuru's whole body make the whole scene look like the embodiment of joy re: Hashimoto
  17. crossposting from the FaOI Shizuoka thread a snippet of FaOI was scheduled in Get Sports, this is Lorando Muffin's cut with new scenes only and Yuzuru's performance
  18. he has all of us wrapped around his finger
  19. with the announcement that came today + Tessa and Scott SBS 1A with Yuzuru, I had a funny thought: If the Overlord tells you to do SE-3A sandwich, you do that (Mura) If he tells you ‘Jump!’, you jump (Nobu, Mai, possibly other bullied skaters, now Tessa&Scott!!!) If he tells you ‘skaters reach their prime after they're 30’, you un-retire ASAP (Daisuke) the Overlord has spoken he's too powerful
  20. I knew it was going to be on the quad era (my other bet was the rise of Asian skaters to dominate the sport...one can't deny that from 2007 to now Asian or Asian-descent people have become a routine presence on podium, and often on top of that, with some podium sweeps too. Tho of course there were some illustrious precedents). It's an elegant way to celebrate US skaters while still talking about something that changed the landscape of FS. Can't deny they are smart @¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (sorry for the long reply. For others: probably lots of controversial things. Also, I’m aware there’s a lot of assumptions and speculation in what I wrote, but tbh anyone trying to ‘read’ other people’s personality is necessarily going to assume and speculate a lot and I’m not really sure where acceptable speculation ends. I think my post is still respectful and I'm using all the necessary may, might, I think and IMO, but if someone else feels uncomfortable or offended by any of the content, please admins go on and modify. Or if someone wants to debate, please do so)
  21. I don't know if it's more funny or cringey That Swan photo from skatingfinland is beautiful
  22. *the corner of selfish self-pity* If I think Yuzuru has been this close to come to Italy....argh, Italian fed, WHY?????????????? They could have Caro for home public and YUZURU and S/H who weren't at WC... *end of the corner of selfish self-pity* Gotta admire how smug Finnish fed looks now, getting two OGMs and Sui/Han not bad for a GP debut A pity ISU didn't livestream the discussion for the assignments, it must have been be quite an interesting meeting, probably more lit than the Seville council the idea of Yuzuru training without coach supervision for more than a few days is always going to scare me, no matter how much more wise he is now
  23. I'm glad Yuzu's gonna skate on good ice and get real medals (*knocks on wood*). I've read again the assignments and Helsinki also got Sui/Han, so they really had some big names. The line up for ladies is very good too. Funny enough, many men at Helsinki will also be at COR, Erokhov and Krasnozhon included. though I wonder why Wakaba would ask for SC...unless she wants the challenge of skating against Evgenia. She's competitive (and her team hasn't been always the best at strategy...tho is it still her team? I should check the Jpn thread), maybe she feels the need to be in high pressure situation... I know, I know, I'm grasping at straws here Just trying to understand the logic.
  24. maybe they just trust that he's gonna be fine anyway. It has pretty much worked till now, Yuzuru is very reliable for JSF...without any need for a push...a Fed couldn't dream for a more ideal skater tbh Boyang is probably the most unlucky or the top men. Misha for a seeded skater idk how much lucky really was, getting to face Yuzuru both times (tho he's gonna have his fed behind, which Boyang doesn't and Yuzu...well in theory he doesn't need that)
