  1. Watching Maxim Kovtun in 2017 WC, not his best showing, can’t help wondering whether if he had been able to go to the Sochi Olympics he might have had more impetus- seems like a wasted talent...
  2. I’m probably being a naive provincial English person but I find it .... odd, that the authority behind the ruling that the event should be without fans ( with which I totally agree, if it is to be held at all ) comes not from the sport’s governing body, or the federal or state authorities, but the Nevada Gaming Control board???? Still, good to see that someone will stand up and try to regulate the event.
  3. It’s the US - all Spanish/ Portuguese speakers are just ‘hispanic’ to large groups of the population and presumably their varied cultures are subject to the same careless attitude.
  4. There are also the versions made by his sister Bronislava Nijinska who worked alongside him on L’apres midi d’un faun etc and was a choreographer in her own right (Les noces) . She worked with western ballet companies In the 1960s to recreate their work from the 1920s. On YouTube there is a vid with a sequence of photos which give you an idea of what Nijinsky ‘s movement might have looked like, especially if you read the eyewitness accounts of actual performances beforehand.
  5. I’m sure Waseda is better equipped than a lot of western universities, but just in case , please consider not crashing the graduation? One of my children graduated this year, the only ceremony was an online presentation with token student involvement and it was unwatchable because it kept crashing because too many friends and family were trying to watch.
  6. Amazon/Netflix style fly on the wall? I’m not sure I could bear to watch but glancing at social media they’d definitely have an audience.
  7. Russian test skates have precipitated the move of EM back to ET - what of the other foreign skaters left without coaches by the Canadian border closure? They may not be going to GP like Yuzuru but what about nationals at the end of the year? If TCC coaches can’t travel to Japan Korea and Poland, who will be there for Yuzuru, Jun and Ekaterina? There doesn’t seem to be any sign of opening that border any time soon, and I don’t blame them given the situation in the US. Will the skaters at Gadbois go home for nationals or will their feds give them a bye into Euros/4CC/Worlds, if indeed those competitions take place at all this season?
  8. Don’t they train in Florida? Iirc it was a hotspot?
  9. If - and it’s a big if imo- she is to go to Beijing Olympics she can’t afford to drop out of sight, or risk being sidelined - so with Canada closed to her she has to train in Russia. Beijing is February 2022 - not very far off - and there is no end to Canada’s border closure in sight.
  10. Pandemic led decisions. She can’t go to Canada, has to compete in Russia so needs a Russian coach. Eteri has space, it’s probably better PR wise for both than Med going to another Russian coach. Can’t say it sounds like the best choice for her health but the pandemic has boxed her in.
  11. It gives hope that NHK at least might be possible whilst taking adequate precautions.....
  12. Black UA is the ultimate leveller - it’s the costume in which in practice he not only rehearses his own programmes but subverts those of other competitors on the fly. Beyond that, even after Origin 1 I still love PotO best and no one can sway me short of something wondrous whenever he next competes....
  13. I have got to get hold of some of this fruit. I am a person who likes citron presse without sugar syrup. I think I’d love it.
  14. Ahhhh - not exactly surprising but I’m sorry to see him go. Best of luck to him wherever life takes him- I’ve enjoyed his performances over the years, especially recently. 🍀🍀🍀🍀
  15. Welcome. I think you’ll find entries relating to most other skaters in the threads relating to their countries, or if not in ‘Team we’re fewer but still good’, or if retired, ‘Hey remember us’. I believe you’ll find us accommodating.
  16. ‘Last’ - please tell me you mean ‘ latest’ - runrun8383 is my favourite fan artist....
  17. Been busy dealing with injury in the family, so missed several days. It’s a shame FS is a niche sport because this is such a great example of leading from the front, showing good judgement for his own health and concern not just for himself but for his coaches, his fans, the people at the sharp end of this pandemic and respect for the rules that are supposed to be containing it. We can all be critical of our local authorities, and certainly many of them have made a mess of it, but the mess is made a lot worse by individuals who for many different reasons of their own, decide not to obey the rules, and make assessing what is working and what isn’t so much more difficult. Bravo.
  18. Watched a lot of cricket the last few days - bores me to sobs but we’re trying to socialise the kittens and the easiest way is lots of playing and noise. Cricket isn’t as weird without sound as football but empty grounds are still a bit eerie. Anyway. The point is technology. I understand the lbw rule even less than I do the offside rule in football, but the tech is awesome - the voice booms across the arena and explains the replay, the points in issue and the result plus the reason for the result , all in a few moments. The slo mo, the graphic of what the ball is actually hitting on its trajectory through the wicket- it’s all brilliant. If a sport as hidebound as cricket can embrace tech like this wtf is stopping the ISU?
  19. Aaaah - I really hope that rumour is true.......
  20. Before the decision to apply for medicine was made we went to more careers talks on the subject than anyone should have to sit through on any subject but their own. One was quite entertaining - can’t remember his specialty but he was a consultant physician, who, when asked what happened if all the things he was talking about didn’t work, said ‘ at that point there’s no option but to call in the plumbers’ - meaning the surgeons of course.
  21. I’m not sure the medical profession is particularly venerated in the uk tbh - the nhs etcetc but it’s more the idea of that which is venerated, than the individuals who make it up, and people are quite critical of individuals where they perceive them to be wrong. The very elderly remember a time when it wasn’t free so they do think of doctors as special, not wanting to bother them. Perhaps it’s just Uber fans who are seeking some outlet given that they can’t rave about performances and costumes at the moment, in which case I have a little sympathy.
