I loved the 2014 version of change. I also like the shamisen - was inspired to buy the Yoshida brothers album by team Japan’s gala performance at WTT 2015. I would love it if Yuzuru were to use their music.

I’m not blaming her for catching it - I’m blaming the people who haven’t taken it seriously - idiots who refuse to wear masks, who congregate in large numbers on beaches or at raves or to celebrate a football championship, who disregarded the travel restrictions and most of all the several world leaders who like to pretend that it’s no big deal - and I include Boris in that because I do not believe so many members of the cabinet and no 10 staff would have caught it if they’d been social distancing. Of course once the fool caught it himself he changed his tune, but it was too late by then.

This is why we all need to be super careful - yes a proportion of the population shrug it off but for many it takes a long time to get over it, like glandular fever for example, and for some there are fears that the damage could be lifelong. I hope that’s not the case for Anastasia

It’s amusing me that the camera can’t keep up with him - this should keep us going for a week or two.

Oh I don’t envision it for Yuzuru- I said so in the original post - Kevin has already approximated it

Oh I don’t look for historical accuracy in a play or film - my immediate reaction was that Schaffer took the infant prodigy, the dubious cause of death and the scatological tendencies and dreamed up a Mozart who almost had Tourette’s his behaviour was so weird. But it works as drama and that is all it is. But if the play works, a skating routine, using the music choices from the film would work too if well done- either a Mozart who is too talented to be sane or an older rival driven mad in a different way by an excellence he cannot approach. And the playwright did the heavy lifting re choosing what music to use!

Doesn’t hurt that there were photos and footage included....

A light drizzle of information and we all perk up.....

I just caught Amadeus before it finished on NT at home - never got round to watching the film and never seen the stage play - why has no one ever used this? I don’t think it’s right for Yuzuru, but there is a great story here with wonderful music already lined up. I can imagine Kevin Aymoz doing a great tortured bratty Mozart and someone with gravitas - p chan would have been perfect- as a driven ruthless but ultimately remorseful Salieri.

That’s what I was thinking - White Legend for the teenager, Notte Stellata for the young man, Black Swan for the mature skater. And you know he could deliver .....
-
Black swan ex for Olympic season...... A gold face mask in the Sekkisei box - how appropriate.

Aljona is really cheering me up at the moment as I’m coping with some seriously annoying passive aggressive s*** - deeds not words ✨

@Henni147 I have the greatest sympathy for you - I too have lost a close relative, not to Covid, but the COVID regulations are making the funeral very difficult to organise, and are making a hard situation almost impossible. I hope your other family members make a swift and full recovery.

At the moment they are reserving judgement on the GP series. I am really upset for Utashin and Sadovsky for example but I’d rather they were safe than put at risk. This virus is still out there, there are countries not taking any steps to control it, there are those taking inept steps ( I include my own in that) there are places going through a second outbreak. Health is the most important thing.

The idea that the ISU, an international sporting body that, for example, can’t cope with music being submitted on a usb stick being flexible and lateral thinking enough to come up with novel solutions to trying to get up and running in the current crisis is ludicrous. If it can’t be done the way it’s usually done the ISU will be the last sporting body to contemplate any out of the box solution. The only thing that makes me think there might be skating at all this season is the fact that the Winter Olympics are looming and the IOC might kick them into action. At the moment it’s all handwringing or head in the sand. I can’t even use the headless chicken cliche because they aren’t active enough. JSF are at least taking steps to protect their skating community.

He looked exhausted at J nats - better at 4CC, but still a bit frazzled. I think the silver lining in this might be the opportunity to get a proper rest, have a total break from the pressure, hopefully at home, and come back refreshed whenever the sport gets going again. Schrodingers graduation- it occurred to me that it would be totally in keeping with his ninja side to graduate in a year when those ceremonies are being cancelled all over the place.

I don’t support all skaters - to have no preferences at all seems weirdly detached to me. Even in performance arts I have preferences. When new skaters emerge I watch and form opinions - I prefer Boyang Jin to Nathan Chen because his jumps are more exciting:- initially I was impressed with Kevin Aymoz, but quickly came to realise that I preferred Roman Sadovsky’s more elegant polished style:- I love Satoko’s stylishness despite her jumps, but when Kaori came along I really loved her quite different style, and enjoy both of them more than Rika tbh. To like all of them without preferences appears to be detached and not really invested at all in the sport - bit like me watching football.

Really hope this leads to good results for him.

I really hope they survive the fallout from this pandemic. 🙏🏻

If they’ve lifted the categories wholesale from ice hockey ( which really wouldn’t be at all surprising, perfectly in keeping with ISU’s general lack of competence and professionalism ) then it explains that one. As for awarding skaters not costume designers for best costume etc - was this whole thing the result of a long liquid lunch, in which the idea was born, hashed out on a paper table napkin, and issued to the media before anyone sobered up enough to veto it?

The ‘most valuable skater’ award - reminds me of some of the interviews/comments we read that have made it through several translations, for example English to Japanese to Russian, and end up garbled in meaning. Its probably not the case here because if it were I expect some of our multilinguists would have worked it out, but that’s how it sounds.

Laureus is at least raising money for sports projects round the world. This is more like an oscars style vanity project for ISU
