I think you hit the nail on the head with this paragraph. Yuzuru is the first athlete, and Figure Skating is the first sport, I've followed online, but I've been a part of other online fandoms ( I was a Bronzer during it's heyday, if anyone here is familiar with Buffy The Vampire Slayer fandom, and I follow anime and manga sites that are rife with otaku), and well, Yuzu fandom is like that. It's a special thing people have to seek out on their own if they're interested. I mean, anyone can follow Real Madrid or the Toronto Maple Leafs (although why would you?, in the case of the Leafs) just by popping down to the local pub or flicking on the TV, but if you want to see Yuzuru you have to work for it. Thus people have a sense of pride and, dare I say, responsibility, towards being a fan that leads to them being more active and vocal in their online support of him. That being said, I hope McMorris is also getting his share of support. Not to diminish Yuzu's achievement, but McMorris crashed into a tree at full speed and nearly ended up dead. To go from that to the Olympic podium only ten months later, when the fact he's even walking is some kind of miracle, is just, like, whoa!, dude. I'm awestruck.

First Olympic Channel, now Laureus Sport. Hanyu addiction is spreading.
-
Well he should...but only in front of fans...so we can appreciate his beautiful moves... His crossrolls kill me dead.
-
I feel like they set a really good example of the way everybody should be with their rivals in life. Imagine going to workplace where this was the prevailing attitude, for example.

Dammit, Javi! If I weep anymore, I'll have icicles in my eyelashes... it's so cold here today. Hope Yuzu bundles up!

@LadyLou re your comments to me re scores:
-
The only way it makes sense is if the original tweet and retweet were meant sarcastically. Given how ridiculous some of the scores were (all 10's for performance? One judge giving everything +5 GOE?), a sarcasm post is a strong possibility. I mean, no one could possibly take those scores seriously.
-
Yeah, realized it after, so I followed the links to make sure. It does seem like a weird thing for her to do though. As far as I know, there's no reason for enmity between them.
-
I don't know who that person is, ( Nevermind, I clicked through and it does look like the real Miki Ando account did the retweet. But still though...) Some real jerk is trying to stir up drama. Same when they dub over Brian and Tracy. I wish they'd sub instead.

And once again, those boys have us all in a puddle of tears...tbh it's probably a good thing Javi retired, I don't know how many more tugs my heartstrings can take!
-
Yes, I'm just saying that most kiddies who dream like that would consider winning once to be enough out of reach already. Only Yuzu would think of doing it twice.
-
You know, most little kids who do sports dream of going to the Olympics, and some who are very good might daydream about winning a medal. Only little baby Yuzuru 'Extra' Hanyu would dream of winning gold at the Olympics twice.
-
Or maybe it's helped him maximize the use of the training time he has... supposing he has less total time to train available to him, he probably works for maximum efficiency and tried to get the most out of every second he's on the ice.
-
Fabu. Just what we all wanted... Yeah no. Vera Wang can do better, those costumes are just...
-
Honestly, the way he tries to reassure his fans all the time...he's such a sweetheart, almost a loverboy type...
-
I'm willing to bet good money the Premium section folks will more than make up for the fact that no one else is allowed. There'll probably be offers to throw other people's stuffies too!

If I recall though, his skate at Worlds was not as smooth as his skate at Nationals last year. It's not about the number of quads anyway, it's about the overall quality of the skate In any case, overall I see much improvement in Nathan and I'd love to know what sparked the change.
-
That also points to a bad pattern in Nathan's training, unfortunately: his best performances really are at US Nationals, even leaving the scoring out of it. Even this year, yesterday I was looking at his skating thinking, 'why on earth is he peaking here? Doesn't he know Worlds are coming? ' he tends to flop the competitions that come after Nationals. That points to coaching/planning failures, to my way of thinking.

So cute! She's kissing his ankle better

Sounds like Yuzu might be paying forward what maybe Javi did for him at one time? Good man, yourself, Yuzu.
-
Well, for starters, there are plenty of three-time Olympians in figure skating. Javi was one. Patrick Chan. Tessa&Scott. Plushenko (I think). Aljona who finally got a gold at her fifth Olympics and still hasn't ruled out going again! So, in that sense, Yuzu wouldn't exactly be blazing a trail if he hung on until 2022. Whether he can remain on top is a different matter. There is an AWFUL lot of very competitive youngsters coming along. But. I do think that if Yuzu thinks it's possible, he'll do everything in his power to achieve it. Of course, by then he'll be beyond stardom; he'll have become a supernova.

Women of the world should be jealous...
-
I think you've mixed up Misha Ge and Mikhail 'Misha' Kolyada, micaelis . I think people are actually talking about Kolyada today. He just skated a clean SP (first in a very long time) at Europeans and folks are excited for him.
-
Is such a thing even possible? I'm a puddle of emotional goo after that. So who else rewatched the video first thing when they woke up, just to start their day with All. The. Feels., plus Yuzu's sweet voice and cute accent?
-
That would be exponential worrying. Like, worrying squared, or maybe cubed.
