  1. It just goes to show that they're focussed on irrelevant things.
  2. Even if they just did it as basic quality improvement - sort of a 'how are we doing at this, anyway? are our methods working?' kind of thing - that would be better than nothing.
  3. This answers my concern pretty well. Because this is something the ISU should already be looking at - i.e. trying to improve their impartiality by understanding the current state of affairs. Sorry if I touched a nerve earlier. I've seen a lot of heated discussion about this issue on Twitter today, along with a lot of wild ideas for how to address it, and it's got me a little mis-calibrated myself. I'm all for a rational approach though.
  4. Right. I didn't know any of that. Where my criticism is coming from is exactly this: no matter how much effort you put into the data analysis, it's not going to be definitive proof, and if it's presented to some organization like the ISU as definitive proof, the potential is very high that it won't have the desired result and could in fact backfire in unforeseen ways. So what I'm saying is, be careful. What if your data indicates that a judge is biased and that judge not only denies it, but then turns around and sues you for libel? I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying, understand the risks.
  5. Hmph, I wonder why? It's not going to harm them...anyway I only know scripts can be used, I haven't a clue how to make one.
  6. At this rate, Team Japan could establish their own personal consulate at Yonge& Lawrence.
  7. If you know coding, you could probably write a script to parse the data and input it for you. Might be faster. Unfortunately I am not a coder or I would be happy to help. Also, I think this project is an interesting idea, and I would like to remind you that correlation does not prove causation, when it comes to data. You might think you have a smoking gun, however, try and confirm it by a second method before coming to definitive conclusions. said the scientist
  8. I just realized.... The flowers on his back outline the shape of an angel wing. Where did he get that idea? Fan art, maybe? Yuzu 'Extra' Hanyu strikes again!
  9. In all fairness, we have the best of excuses.
  10. I hadn't even realized that part! Not only is he chasing Nessie (aka 4A) he IS Nessie!
  11. Even the angle his feet make when he crosses his legs for the jumps is gorgeous. Yuzu melted my brain at ACI '19. Send help.
  12. ...speaking of Nessie: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/video/science/mysterious-creature-caught-on-video-spurs-more-speculation-about-loch-ness-monster/vi-AAHui5I A sign of things to come?
  13. His hidden purpose: to make everyone discover their inner believer
  14. Oh my God! Jordan outdid himself. And I never knew lenses could cost $12,000!
  15. I've read it in multiple interviews...most recent one was a reprint of an interview with him from about 4 years ago.
  16. Exactly. Only to be used in the case of last resort, BUT it would mean athletes have a recourse against gross judging errors.
  17. OT but ICYMI from the Team Canada thread: https://mobile.twitter.com/ScottMoir/status/1174165006251900928 Tessa and Scott are calling it quits after the Rock the Rink tour next month. So if you love them, looks like this'll be last chance to see them. Tickets here if anyone wants them: http://rocktherink.com/
  18. Oh my God, Tessa and Scott are breaking my heart right now. I think this means that Rock the Rink is the last chance to see them. And of course the show in my hometown is the same weekend as Skate Canada.
  19. Since we don't know him personally, it's hard to say one way or the other. I just think that a) he's not as much of a loner as all that, and I will deliberately avoid using the terms introvert and extrovert, since they're loaded words, and b) his comment in the ACI interviews that he 'lives like a monk' isn't meant to indicate anything more than his lifestyle as an athlete.
  20. Agree here! Yuzu acts like an outgoing type. And he's in the midst of a group of his peers at TCC, so he could have people to hang out with if he wanted. I'm thinking his 'living like a monk' comment relates more to the austere lifestyle of an elite athlete, and maybe a bit the recognition factor, where getting recognized on the street could potentially be a problem, so going out is difficult. There's also the fact that he's a healthy young man and probably wouldn't mind having a relationship if it were possible to find someone suitable. Again, given his position, maybe not possible for him right now. And perhaps he prefers not to be distracted. But it's just a light-hearted comment on his part, in my opinion. No deeper meaning other than 'all I do is skate, eat, and sleep' .
  21. So there actually is a rule that allows for appeals? Colour me surprised. The way people act, I'dhave thought every call is set in stone once made. I know in swimming, athletes and coaches have the right to appeal any technical disqualifications. This covers things like stroke and turn judging, false starts, undue interference by a competitor etc, and it's up to the meet referee to decide what to do. Anything up to and including re-swimming the race is possible, although most swimmers just want their result to stand instead of having a DQ. Every skating competition has a referee. What are they there for if not to handle appeals?
