  1. Oh, I hope Yuzuru finds out about this and gets a chance to go!
  2. If she does, it'll be under another coach, of that I'm sure. But maybe she's lost her zeal for competition. She doesn't seem to have the same fire of defiance in her that Zhenya does. Well, at this rate, who wants to lay odds that none of this year's crop of Eteri girls makes it to Beijing (WADA ban notwithstanding)?
  3. I think it would be great to see Yuzu do a Taiko drum-based program with a natsu matsuri feel. It would be completely different from anything he's ever done and could be super high energy and fun.
  4. I love that they have Johnny Weir playing a pairs skater. I don't love that this article doesn't even mention the skaters who are in this, just the actors. Actors, who cares? We're all going to be watching for the skating anyway.
  5. I know, right? I'm always torn between wishing I had that much fitness myself, and admiring what he has going on. @Geo1 So to sum up, as far as Tourism Kelowna is concerned, Yuzu is welcome back any time. I picture all the nice old ladies working in the tourist information center doing this if he ever shows up again.
  6. I thought he was alluding to the fact that the next Olys are in China, but it could also be interpreted the way you have. hard to know, I don't follow Max usually so have no idea what his attitudes are. ...and I see I'm late to the discussion as usual
  7. It's still early days...so far the only news is that an investigation has been launched. Might not be enough for NBC to jump on yet. But yes, it would seem more consequential of a story than Hersh's gossip hunting
  8. Well, I have a comment to make. I'm Brian's longtime fan. Since he was a skater. I've always watched what he's done and followed any news there was about him. One thing that's been a recurring theme in his life, is that he is always sincere in his intentions and he always does the best he can. Whether an observer would agree that what he does is the correct course of action or not, Brian's heart is now, always was, and probably always will be, in the right place. It hurts incredibly to see him get attacked like this (and I'm just a fan who never met him, not someone who works with him every day.). It hurts even more knowing that Yuzu trusts him, likes him, and respects him, as is evident by all their interactions that we've been able to see, and that Yuzu is probably hurt by seeing his fans viciously attack his coach for things that are a) often insignificant and b), frankly, not the fans' business to begin with. Yuzu's coaches are clearly precious and important people to him. Why can't we fans respect that? None of us would attack his parents that way. No more should we be heaping abuse on his coaches, then, especially over a situation none of them could help.
  9. Why, why, why did you use this turn of phrase? My brain went some really strange places on that one. Joking apart, at least in a Speedo we'd get to see just how big those thigh muscles really are. In a spirit of academic inquiry, I mean.
  10. A blanket ban seems just as unfair as allowing Russia to continue compete when they clearly think anti-doping is a joke. Sports with a low frequency of positive doping test results should get case-by-case consideration. It would be really odd to have no Russian skaters competing at Worlds, for example. It would totally change the field. Although, no Russian competitors might mean no Russian judges either.
  11. If you want to try convincing him to wear one - be my guest!
  12. One can only hope! I absolutely hate that technique. It looks bad. I have no words. I thought the same. Truly, I've thought that since her growth spurt after PC and her blow up at Worlds '18, Alina's been skating on borrowed time, and the chief reason Eteri let her is because she didn't want to give truth to the rumours that Evgenia's departure had already fueled - that the girls are discarded after puberty hits them. Does anyone think the WADA ban is going to affect figure skating very much? I really can't see it, it's not a sport where doping is a thing, but I'd love to hear what others think.
  13. So that the age-guessing software can get it right for once?
  14. Not even Yuzu could make speedos look good. Actual Olympic swimmers don't even look good in them.
  15. but then it would be an entirely different sport, one that was actually fair. I agree though. If there were some kind of official appeals or review process, or a way to challenge the call, things would seem a little less David (the skaters) vs Goliath (the judges).
  16. man, that made me miss Seimei all over again. I hope Yuzu revisits it someday.
  17. Yeah, and some where in the avalanche of press after ACI '19, there is buried this little nugget of info that Brian did in fact speak to someone about the incompetent judging that happened at ACI. Which makes me wonder all the more about what certain judges were thinking while scoring Yuzu at GPF. the judging is the suckiest aspect of this sport, bar none. By the way, in case everyone's forgotten: Yuzu's official spokespeople are supposed to be JSF, not TCC.
  18. No BV assigned to quints, so it's a waste of a jumping pass. I feel pretty certain one will show up in an ice show next summer, but that's just my own hunch, nothing more.
  19. He answered that question this past weekend. He basically said "Maybe someday, after I get 4A, I might train it then if my flip feels good enough. I would like to do a program with all 6 quads in it one time." So he's not ruling it out, but he's got other fish to fry right now.
  20. I feel dumb now for not remembering that.
  21. But has Shoma ever done 4Lo or 4Lz? I thought his quads were toe, sal, and flip only.
  22. Of course they are. Tit for tat in return for Evgenia's defection, probably.
  23. Frankly, I'm starting to get the feeling that Russians would LOVE to poach Yuzu away from TCC. @Umebachi I read that news about Dr. Nakamura and it just filled me with sadness. The worst part of the current situation in that area of the world is how any attempts to make things better for the people there are immediately torn down and destroyed by the various terrorist factions in the region.
