  1. I originally said senior woman but then wasn't sure if I was right about Amanda being senior so redacted it. Anyway, I wonder if SC has decided to pare the team down to a bare minimum this year simply because of the way everything is going - they may have been depending on the money from ticket sales to fund part of the team and that's obviously not going to be available now. It's not as if Conrad, Joseph & co aren't training. But training and being named to the team are two different things. The more i look at it, the more this team selection looks like a contingency plan. Like 'here's who's going, if competitions take place, but they probably won't take place'.
  2. Kind of sad that we can only come up with two pairs teams at the moment. I take this announcement as a sign that Skate Canada is committed to moving forward with the season in whatever form they can manage and probably won't be cancelling everything, but it's 2020 so who knows?
  3. About time TCC got a Canadian woman back on the roster.
  4. I've fallen down the BTS rabbit hole and can't get out. No need to send help, I'm quite happy down here, but drinks and snacks would be appreciated. //all right, totally serious now: How is it possible that the entire world hasn't discovered and fallen in love with this group yet? I'm blown away.
  5. I don't know if Waseda is doing virtual or an in-person ceremony, but one of the unintended good consequences of the pandemic is that Yuzu will be in Japan for his graduation and able to celebrate with his family close by, which is a wonderful thing, and good for him.
  6. That quote - "I am neither greater nor less than Yuzuru Hanyu" - doesn't it come from one of those really introspective interviews he gave after JNats and before 4CC? I seem to remember reading a translation with that in it at around that time. I think he's partially quoting Leornardo Da Vinci there, who wrote that "You will never have a greater nor lesser dominion that that over yourself" - i.e. to be oneself is equally and simultaneously both a no-brainer and the largest challenge you'll ever have.
  7. Yes, but I mean, he looks better than you'd even expect. I sometimes feel like it's a shame he can't wear kimono all the time.
  8. Sort of. I think all these pics are from his cottage (I guess in Russia, the equivalent would be a dacha? Not sure), which is located in the Muskokas, which is probably Canada's best known summer home/ summer holiday region. I love the Muskokas - they really are a kind of outdoors paradise - and they're not far from Toronto at all. Further reference: https://www.discovermuskoka.ca/
  9. It might sound a little bit dumb to say that a Japanese person looks great in hakama, but really, Yuzuru looks exceptionally well in Japanese clothes.
  10. When you put it like that...and I used to work for a wholesale distributor who sold exactly those types of products (gaming stuff), so I know that yes, people do get carried away trying to get the one special card they're after. In this case, though, considering how many hurdles they've put it in the way, it's also a possibility that Nishikawa is just trying to keep all the fans from rushing to stores and overwhelming them with orders, as they would if the Yuzu item was guaranteed with every purchase. IMO a promotion like this has the chance to backfire and actually slow down their sales. People thinking they don't want to gamble. Edited to add: Nevermind. I see @sweetwater corrected a misconception and translated the campaign properly. If I were a sales rep in the retail outlets for this brand, I'd try to figure out if I could tell from outside the package whether there's a Yuzu item inside or not, then make sure anyone who is a fanyu got the Yuzu merch. @Old Cat Lady Hmm. Honestly I think it depends on whether the fanart utilizes previously copyrighted material or not.
  11. That's brilliant on Nishikawa's part. People will buy 2x as much if they don't get Yuzu the first time.
  12. That's key to enjoying ice dance! The ice dancers do lovely things, score or no score. And on that note, let me share with you my favorite ice dance ever, in 3 different versions: I was lucky enough to see this program live 3 different times too (maybe four? ) and it was enthralling every time. Also, I adore the way Piper and Paul work together. He handles her like she's made of glass and it gives a beautiful delicate flavour to their performances.
  13. Usually because they have the temerity to get older and lose the stick-like kiddie bodies that some feds favour.
  14. My understanding is that Qantas cancelled all their international flights until March 2021. I don't know if all flights to Australia are suspended but the chances of 4CC being held there are low IMO. ISU would be better off moving it, if they can.
  15. Ooh, I can relate! I saw jeff skate that at Stars On Ice and it was amazing. Jeff's a treasure.
  16. Pairs is fun to watch but at the same time terrifying because of the lifts...even more so live...
  17. Dang...sounds like his surgery and recovery went well. I was never so disappointed as when he had to withdraw from SCI last year. I was really looking forward to seeing him live.
  18. Honestly, it bugs me when that happens. Like, they should try not to be so obvious about their bias.
  19. Oh. I see. Didn't realize they were doing their own, and the photo was captioned 'Russian test skates' so I got mixed up. I wanna see what he's doing!
  20. Then why are photos of Kolyada supposedly at the test skates showing up in my Twitter? ...
  21. Ice dance is notorious for arcane and untransparent judging. Basically the top five couples in the world don't seem to have much actual difference in level beyond whether the judges decide to like them or not.
  22. Anyone watching the senior test skates? There's no thread in the events forum.
  23. Well, considering that JSF has already withdrawn all their junior skaters from international competition in the name of COVID-19 prevention and said they wouldn't send anyone to Challengers either, it would be more than a touch hypocritical of them to criticize Yuzu's decision to withdraw from the GP now. But I didn't expect them to come out and say they respect his decision. That's a big surprise and a definite acknowledgement of Yuzu's good sense.
