Junior Skaters of 2020/21 Season
IceWings replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters

So glad that Mai is back on the ice training! I hope we can get some news clips of all the skaters at the training camp. Also happy that Kaori is keeping her Matrix free skate. I really want to see her do a clean skate of that program, so hopefully we'll get to see that.

Oh gosh. That's awful. I have never seen the entire 6 minute warmup. There was a video of one of the subsequent comps (2014 NHK?) where they showed a quick replay of the collision, and that's where I saw the collision, but it only showed Yuzu and Han Yan colliding and then falling to the ice.

Yuzu has visited schools several times over the years. The school visit you are describing is the one in 2014, when he visited a Junior High school in Ishinomaki. The recent video footage is from his visit in 2018 to a school that just reopened in Naraha. That school is located close to the nuclear power plant that was damaged by the earthquake/tsunami. For those who are new, here is an excellent summary of his school visits: https://lazuliblade.tumblr.com/post/175536700513/yuzurus-visit-to-naraha-fukushima-732018 His words are so inspiring, I'm surprised they didn't include them in the original broadcast, but I guess it's good that they hold back some footage so they can feed us some nuggets of his goodness during drought periods. @Kikooo, Welcome, and happy to have you join us! When I first joined the Planet, the glittering glossary did not exist yet, and I was so confused... boob-skirt? And someone had posted a video clip of cactus blooming, and I kept waiting for some Yuzu content in that video, but there was only blooming cacti. LOL. I lurked for a while before joining too. I think I ended up joining because I was trying to get info about the Sendai parade, or maybe CiONTU. I think I've only watched the 2014 CoC FS once. I can't stomach watching him fall over and over again, and then Kikuchi-san practically had to carry him off the KnC. I'm glad he is being more careful about his body these days.

Information about how to watch the Peggy Fleming competition is here: https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/sports/2020/7/13/third-annual-peggy-fleming-trophy-virtual-competition.aspx I'll be working at that time, so can't watch it live, but it looks like a video will be available for later viewing.

I agree. I hope she's just doing it for fun and doesn't take the results too seriously. My mom loves watching beauty pageants, and I used to watch them all the time with her when I was a youngster. There's even more politicking that goes on in pageants than in FS. I remember Miss USA always made it into the top 10, and usually the top 3 or 5. It's like they reserved a spot for her already. The judging panel was pretty fakey too, with one or two random celebrities thrown in. I haven't watched in decades though, so maybe things have changed, but it doesn't sound like it if you have to pay to vote! It's been tough for Gabby, and I want her to just have fun with this and not take things to heart if the results turn out not to be what she is hoping for.

After Nessie, the siren song will be quints. After all, it's only 1/2 rotation more! @Henni147, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your aunt and the pain you are going through. Sending prayers and healing thoughts your way for your grandfather and friend to recover soon. @Sombreuil, I am sorry to hear about your loss as well. I hope for better times for you both. @Ewa, welcome and thank you for sharing your journey to the Planet. I love hearing stories about how non-skating fans discover Yuzu. He has such an amazing gravitational pull.

According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Channel ), there's an IOC "Olympic Channel" with the official website = http://www.olympicchannel.com/ . And there are localized versions including the American "Olympic Channel" owned by NBC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Channel_(American_TV_channel) , with the official website = https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/ I took a quick look at the two websites and they're virtually identical, so you can probably safely assume that NBC is the one funneling content to the "Olympic Channel".

That would be excellent. In any case, Yuzu is first, so that's another first for him. That voting site was not even secure. You could vote as many times as you want, so those vote counts were not even reliable. I think our best bet is to push for a show that is separate from the gala. If we just bash the show, they will ignore all the complaints and lump it in as fanyus being negative again. Not only did they swap out the Gala for the Show. They changed the TIME of the event. The Gala was scheduled in the afternoon, so some people booked flights in the evening to return home after the Gala. When they changed the Gala to the Show, they scheduled the Show in the evening, so those who already made travel plans had to scramble to rearrange their flights and hotel reservations, and they ended up having to pay fees for making those changes.

I heard they went over budget this year, so with any luck, they won't have any money to put on another show.

I'm glad to hear you and your family are safe, and all of your research data (and esp the Yuzu content!) are backed up and safe too. Hope the rain and flooding subsides soon. Yes, that show is still primarily a propaganda tool for I*U and the big feds to push their agenda, not to mention the fan wars that result from it. I wish this is the last we see of it, but I doubt they will be willing to let it go. If they MUST have it, I agree it would be much better as part of the banquet. Watching Yuzu's beautiful gala performances in the #YuzuSkatingParty really hit home to me what we would be losing if they replace the gala with the Award Show. It's like they are replacing Notte Stellata or HyK with that show. On a happier note, I am very pleased that Yuzu won MVS. I don't care about that award, but if Yuzu didn't win, it would send a message that the I*U has written him off, and that would make him sad. So I'm thankful we got to see a happy Yuzu and hear his thoughtful words (in such good English too!).

Olympic Channel and Jordan see all the messages flying around about NOT retweeting Yuzu's hostage Award message, so they be like, "Hey fanyus, let us give you something to tweet about!" There are usually multiple copies of Yuzu videos floating around, so the views get distributed among the various videos. It dilutes the view count, but multiple videos can be a good thing if some videos end up getting deleted, then we can still hope for some that will survive. One of Yuzu's 2017 WC Hope and Legacy videos had 3 million views when it got deleted in 2018, so it would have a lot more views by now if it was still around. Due to videos being deleted, people are now downloading the videos and that can reduce the view count too since people are not returning to YouTube to watch. Olympic SEIMEI is on DVD, so people who bought the DVD also might not be watching on YouTube anymore. Everyone is hoarding footage, dang it! When you look at Jordan's video, at one point there is this BIG camera opposite of Jordan that is trained on Yuzu too. So where is that footage? I wanna see!

Yes, I wish they would talk about all of Yuzu's contributions and efforts in helping the people in the disaster areas. He has such a big impact on so many lives. A friend of mine had an extra ticket to 2019 ACI, which she ended up selling to a Japanese woman. When they met to exchange the ticket, the woman said she was from Sendai (iirc or at least from a region in the disaster area) and she was so happy to have this chance to watch Yuzu skate that she had tears in her eyes. This is the impact Yuzu has on the people in the disaster area. Also they list everything Yuzu has done in the past, but they point out what Nathan is currently doing: Iirc, they also mention how Papadakis/Cizeron are pushing Ice Dance with modern moves. I can't find the exact quote, but I don't want to give ISU a click to get it. So it's the same narrative that Yuzu was great, but it's the others that are currently enriching the sport.

Google too: So happy I can get them in digital format. I haven't bought magazines or photobooks because I just have too much stuff in the house and not enough shelving space, etc. But I've always wanted the photos in those books. Yup. My thoughts exactly when I saw that clip. Not to worry Zuzu, we can read between the lines of your message. We could have the gala, where all the skaters are happy and skating fun programs. The fans are happy. The audience is happy. But nooooooo, instead they want to put on this sh*t show "Awards Show", where skaters are bound to feel snubbed if they're not nominated, and those who are nominated will get dissed by the ISU and Big Fed narratives so only their propped-up favs will win. I'm glad to see many of Yuzu's fan forums calling to boycott the show. I hope the word goes out to all of his fans, and Alina's fans too. They even have a catchy protest slogan: "NO ALINA, NO PARTY!"
-
It only makes ISU look bad. The omission actually does more to highlight Yuzu's achievements since unless you're a total FS noob, it's not like people don't know about his achievements. At the minimum, they know about his Olympic golds. Even if ISU want to do the erasure thing, Olympic Channel isn't going to delete anything.

It's been postponed until August. https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2020/06/30/figure-skating-grand-prix-coronavirus/

So hard to pick only one photo. I will pick this one from last season. He has the most beautiful eyes in this picture. I wondered what happened to Ninny. She used to have a public Twitter account and she took such beautiful pictures of Yuzu, but I noticed that account was deleted. I miss seeing her pictures. Yes, Yuzu did well in his SP at 2019 Nationals. He said he was able to hide his issues in the SP, but was not able to do so in the free. I have a feeling that's exactly what they're trying to do. They know giving the award to Nathan will make a lot of people angry and then Nathan's defenders will jump in the fray and the only purpose that serves is to give a lot of views/clicks/attention to ISU and their wretched Award show. That is exactly what they want. So the best thing to do is to ignore the whole thing and pretend like it doesn't exist no matter what they say, and no matter who wins or loses. The only way to get the old Gala back is if the Award show flops badly, and the only way the Awards will flop is if it gets ignored.

Your son sounds like my brother. When he started living on his own, his diet was take-out and frozen foods. Javi lived on his own and Brian said he sometimes came to the rink looking under-nourished, so Brian always had a power shake or something available to help boost Javi's energy for the practice. I'm sure Yuzu can fend for himself too if necessary, but like Barbara said, it's probably not an optimal situation though.
-
Like he tunneled his way back to Canada.
-
I don't mean that Jason is actually registered as a student in a Canadian university, but the situation is similar in that the skaters are also there to learn, so maybe the Canadian govt has an exemption for them too. I think the number of athletes training in Canada would be small compared to the number of foreign students or people with work visas. T*L info I would definitely take with a grain of salt, but I think P Hersh said he spoke to Jason? That's what I heard, but don't want to give him a click either to confirm. Lol. That's an interesting point. Imagine Yuzu having to fend for himself with cooking and laundry, etc. Maybe he would just opt to stay in Sendai. No kidding. If they will let people in from the States, really then anyone else should be acceptable.
-
I heard that T*L also reported that Jason is back in Canada self-quarantining. I think foreign students are allowed to return to Canada under a study permit, so perhaps the athletes have a similar exemption.
-
I hope everyone will ignore it. That's the only way that Awards Show will die. Originally, I thought they added the MVP award (which seemed tailored-made for Yuzu) to get Fanyu support. But now they know that Fanyus hate that award show, so they probably think they will get more mileage appealing to Nathan's fans by giving him that award. Also the outrage if Nathan does win, will give them a lot of clicks and attention. So the best thing to do is to just ignore the whole stupid thing and give it zero attention.

Yeah, tell that to the ISU. When they start to "Support all skaters equally" with fair scores, then maybe I will too.

You're right Barbara. Here is a longer video with English Sub:
