One thing amused me during this Olympics was that a person in Japanese media who had been a bit cynical toward Yuzu and Yuzu fans in Japan, who had been persistently trying to give them a nickname many of them didn't really like has changed his attitude completely after he saw Yuzu's free skating live in PyeongChang. He cried a bit after that and suddenly became very serious when he talks about Yuzu. The show hosted by him started putting their focus more on discussing the technical side of figure skating than other fluffs like fans fangirling etc. I don't know how long he will be that way, but it was still nice to see he changed his view, and it happened because of Yuzu's performance.

I think it's kind of natural for fans outside of Japan to think it's not about the way fans shown in news shows because uploaders of Yuzu-related clips tend to edit out such segments from their videos, but believe me, there have been so many TV programs featured Yuzu fans a bit mockingly. Japanese TV loves to ridicule fans of someone who's super popular among girls and ladies (e.g. Yuzu, Shohei Otani, K-pop or K-drama stars) and it's super annoying for the fans themselves. When newspapers refer to Yuzu fans they are much more polite though. ETA: I read your edited post. Now I see why you interpreted his words that way. Yeah, 局(station) and 曲(song) both pronounced kyoku.

While I was trying to catch up with the thread, JSF announced Yuzu's withdrawal from Worlds... To be honest, I've never expected that he would skate at Worlds this year hearing his comments after FS in PyeongChang. He gave his all for the win. Hope he'll be able to take a good rest and get fully healed from now on. I feel sorry for those who have been looking forward to seeing him in Milan. I think I know how you feel now and hope you will all have a chance to see him live in near future. EXも閉会式も終わって、帰国後のメディア対応もおそらく一段落して、本当にオリンピックが終わってしまいましたね。 ずっと録画や記事の整理に追われていて、日常でも仕事と私生活でやるべきことがたまっていて、今は英語でも日本語でも何も書ける気がしないのでほぼROMになっていますが、オリンピック中の新聞を整理していたら羽生君だけでなく見ていた人たちの言葉の中にもいいなと思うものがたくさんあったのでシェアさせてください。画像が多いので畳みます。諸々既出だったらお許しください。 フリー翌日の読売新聞より。羽田で観戦していたANAの皆さんにも取材しているのですが、パイロットさんがフリーの前の日に平昌の上空を飛んだので、空から祈っていたと。 こちらは産経の記事。中学の頃の先生や、「応援する会」の坂田さん、闘病中羽生君の存在が励ましとなっているというファンの方のコメントなど。 パンダライオンさんと地元仙台の人たちのコメント。 スポニチにはスピードスケートの清水さんのコラムが載っていたのですが、ご自身もかなり今回の羽生君と似たような状況を経験されていたようです。 これはデイリーに載っていた野球の記者の方のコラム。他競技の人もこんな風に関心を持って見ていたんだなあと。 朝日には佐藤信夫コーチのコメント。羽生君のスケーティングの技術を高く評価されています。 プルさん、ディック・バトン、タチアナ・タラソワのコメントと、羽生君自身の言葉と地元の人たちのコメントがぎゅっとまとまっていた東京新聞。 読売の結城和香子さんによるハビエルの記事。 昨日の会見で羽生君自身も「味方はたくさんいる」とコメントしていましたが、いろんなところでいろんな人がいろんな立場から、羽生君の頑張りを応援したり、それに励まされたりしているんだなと思います。 最後に、これは羽生君自身のコメントに基づいたものですが、産経に載っていた氷に乗れない間のトレーニングについての記事。会見でエアロバイクを使って心肺機能を維持していたとありましたが、その他にこんなこともやっていたのかなという内容で、興味深かったです。 これからまたいろんな工夫をしながら治療やリハビリに取り組むんだろうなと思いますが、すべてうまくいくように、早く良くなって思いきり好きなことができるようになるように、心から祈っています。

高木さん良かったですね。長らく苦しんでいてオリンピックは今回で最後かもと言っていたので、ひとまずメダルが獲れて良かったなと思いました。 昨日今日とずっと必死でニュース番組を編集しているのですが 、今回日本ではとにかく金を待ち望んでいるというより、有力候補たちがどうプレッシャーと戦っているかに焦点が集まっている気がします。前回前々回で期待されつつ結果を出せず辛い思いをした高木さん高梨さんや、羽生君や平野君など怪我から帰って来た有名選手たちが注目されているので、報道もひたすら金を期待するよりどことなく見守ってる感のあるコメントで締めくくられるものが多い気がします。 あとは現地が寒かったり風が強かったり朝が早かったりで何かと心配されている（修造さんが現地にいるのになぜ？） とりあえず味の素のご飯は美味しそうで良かったです！

I remember this article. I think I still have it in my closet! They are almost same age (Miho is a year older,) but she had already skated in Olympics, so Yuzu is calling her "senpai" and asking her many questions regarding Olympics here. Happy Miho finally won an Olympic medal because she has been fighting with the pressure since she was a junior high school student. Hope Yuzu will have a great Olympics too. One of the topics in this article I often recall is their dialects. Miho is from Hokkaido and Hokkaido shares some part of their culture and dialect with Tohoku, where Yuzu lived. So they are talking about their dialects too. There is a word "いづい izui" which means uncomfortable, ill-fitting, awkward, etc. used both in Hokkaido and Tohoku. Yuzu is saying that when he says "いづい" to Brian he says "easy?", which actually means opposite of いづい. At the end of the article, he says that he definitely wants to compete at Olympics and get a result which is not いづい. There might be a translation of this article somewhere since it's old.
