I'm beginning to think that the hashtag is a misnomer. It shouldn't have been 下手くそ選手権 (1). It'should've been 結構いける選手権 (2). 1- who's crappiest 2- who's the least half-bad Cos everyone who aren't submitting stick figures looks pretty darn talented to me. That zusa one is actually really *good*.

Or it could look like him but also like Mr. Potato Head, like this pic (not a drawing) here: https://mobile.twitter.com/letsgocrazysp/status/1027117474481889280?s=19

I can still tell it's him from the HAIR. And the weird pose. And that's probably the murder face that he has on. It's quite accurate, really. Okay. That literally could be anybody. Looks a lot like me everyday at 11am. And 3pm. Still not good enough tho. It needs to try very hard to look like him but ends up looking like...I dunno...Ms. Piggy or Kermit or something.

Then you did well cos you made me explain and now hopefully no one would get it wrong ^__^. Good thing you did, too, cos I hadn't thought of all that when cracked that joke -.-;; That's actually pretty good. I mean I can still tell it's him without the reference. If they want to be crap they need to suck harder. UH. As in, they need to try harder to be crap. Cos it ain't easy being crap. I'd know. Seriously...I just realized how many everyday expressions that we use are so...uncouth as to be borderline sekuhara. But censoring myself didn't feel right either cos it wouldn't be me talking, since these are expressions people I interact with use on a daily basis, and which I use in return. Either way, I'm sorry for my lack of culture. And those of the people I associate with.

Okay, I think you missed my point. It's not meant as a sexual reference. It's just a redneckish way of saying, "Who's the man now?!" Which is basically what you're describing. Only less...cultured, you know? Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying what he does isn't competitive. It's hella competitive. He's hella competitive. Like probably more than everyone else out there across all fields, male and female, put together. But I'm saying it's not just competitiveness that he's driven by because if it's just that, I wouldn't have become a fan. He is quite insufferably competitive, in fact, but you root for him still because he also does it in a way that doesn't belittle others just to prove he's the man. Like, just because he won doesn't mean others are losers. As in, I don't get the feeling that he wants to prove he's the best just for the sake of being the best. I think he's doing it to prove he is the best because he is right. Not that others are wrong. Just that he isn't wrong. And he got maybe a few more things right than others seeing the results he's gotten. And that if others thought a bit more in the same way, maybe they too, could achieve more. Like even if we don't like competing with others, we all do still end up competing with ourselves at various points and it's important that we don't lose when that happens. And even if we did we shouldn't give up trying to win. That sorta thing. Anywho, I'm just stating why I personally find him inspiring, despite being the sort to shy away from competitive types. Not saying my words are gospel or anything. ^^;

Not for young eyes. Or those with conservative humor. Please stay away.

I don't think Hanyu measures himself against others in a way where he finds his own strengths against other's weaknesses. Not when it comes to skating anyway. Based on all that he's done so far, he probably looks at everyone's strengths, right down to the non-contenders, and try to adopt them for himself. Meaning, I don't think there is a single contender he looks down upon. Everyone has something he finds worth learning to further better himself. For all we know, he's looking at the juniors and novices, too. Sure, during competitions he's going to try to bring out all the things he's absorbed from everyone in order to whoop everyone's asses but I actually don't think he does it to prove he's better. I think he does it to ultimately prove he's right. That's the vibe I seem to be getting off of him, which explains why I root for him. Cos I usually can't stand competitive people. But for some reason, probably the one I just mentioned, he really inspires me.

If they're taking votes, mine goes to LGC when he did that high kick right after coming out of his 3A. Or the one where he slid on his knees. I'd vote for NS as well but I have a bad feeling they'll mess that one up. Who knows, maybe they'll do one of him in training gear, unzipping that training jacket with the collar in his mouth. The Japanese seem to like that a lot.... But chances are, if they ever make another (which I really hope they won't) it'll probably be him in his SEIMEI gear and his starting pose for that program, which might work...or even if it doesn't, it'll probably still end up better looking than the one on display right now...

ಸ_ಸ (ಥ_ಥ) ....besides Lanotte and Capellini, whom I think have retired, they're the only other ice dance couple I enjoy out of the entire discipline. For serious. I don't enjoy ice dancing and while I know ice dancers are really good at what they do, I find as much appeal in them as I would a classical ballet performance. But when Muramoto and Reed perform, I always perk up. It sucks so hard that there won't be anymore new beautiful and edgy performances from these two anymore. :((( (The Shibs are sometimes fun to watch but they don't really do it for me, either.)

Good point about Mao. I think maybe my problem isn't with that they didn't manage to capture him because, like you said, people with wildly animated features like him are probably never going to lend themselves well to being replicated. But they didn't have to make him creepy................unless he's never going to not be creepy-looking replicated. Especially with that pose. I think maybe the one they chose, even if famous, probably wasnt the right one to preserve Hanyu's likeness in that form. If they were to ever replace it or add another, I'd pick him in one of his mid-LB IB poses. Preferably the HyK one. I think that one may work. I thought those heavily edited photos of him during his parade by Nahyu kind of make him look wax-like, but in a non-creepy way. Couldn't they have made him look like that? It'd at least look like him...but then again, it's probably that PW ending pose and his expression that went along with it. Still think they'd f*ck his likeness up again tho so let's hope they don't try again.

Oh wow. Mao's look lovely. Hanyu's one just gives me the creeps. Why couldn't they have done the same good work on him as they've done on her? Does Hanyu not lend himself well to be made statues out of? I mean people draw him well in photorealism or portrait style but I've never seen a life-like replica of him that makes me not cringe... Others already answered but I think nuance-wise, your interpretation is probably the most right on the money >_< Lolol! Never seen a caption more perfect. I'd pay to see that. Really, I would. Air fare and everything. If Chan ever deigns to appear in an ice show with him and shows off his skillz, I'm pretty sure Hanyu's going to want to one-up him somehow. Gonna hide the next bit in case there are minors or people who scandalize easy here. Don't say I didn't warn ya. I almost wish Chan had stuck around another year. If he's at SC, chances are Hanyu would've asked to go there as well. It'd be so amusing to see him, a 2x OGM and World Champion now, end up with yet another Canadian silver next to Chan's gold in Canada. Maybe he'll even throw down his bouquet in frustration. And Chan'd be like, you can have the world or the whole damn universe even but you can't ever have Canada, even though you train here. And I don't even have to be there to take it from you but it feels oh-so-good when I am~~

I think you're trying to convey the Dick Tracy image but all my brain was able to conjure up was the Inspector Gadget one. For that, I'm truly sorry. I've only ever seen two. One is great, the other not so much. It's nice to know there's another thing we can agree on. ^^

Hi! He's probably all over the place. Especially if your BF is going to a metropolitan area. When I was visiting some close friends in a small town in Gifu last year, the book section of the backwater little mall they had there had a whole shelf dedicated to figure skating books and mags, 3/4 of which has you-know-who on the cover. Mind you, this was also during slap bang in the middle of the off-season. The rest of the mall was littered with pottery. So I don't imagine your BF would have to try too hard to come face-to-face with a magazine cover (or twenty) that has Hanyu's beaming visage on it.

....that in itself is quite telling. I...I guess I'll leave you to your aesthetics then (tho everything else you named I like as well). He did...a few times. There was that Bieber program...and then the Change one...and there was another one tho it could be a variation for his Bieber program...

Really? I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this but if no one else here will say it, I will. Cos while undoubtedly beautiful and he will look as amazing as he does in the drawing, if not more so, don't you think this will also make him the butt of a lot of, I dunno, goldfish jokes maybe? I mean, it's not like he wouldn't be making it easy in the first place...>_< Then again, if he didn't mind being likened to kelp and all other manner of green leafy vegetable, I guess being likened to a goldfish would be a step up at least...

It was amazing what he did, too, since it was a comeback from 4th or 5th place, I think, and he was lowballed in the PCS domain. So he won it in the most sublime of manner, I feel. Incredible. Here's to a fulfilling season for him.

Aw. Just goes to show how subjective people's individual tastes are. I thought this was actually one of his nicer and less whoa-inducing costumes. And I also think the color looks great on him. Whatever his new costumes--and programs, too, for the matter--are, I guess it's inevitable that while some will love them, some will absolutely loath them. There really is no pleasing everyone, to absolutely nobody's fault. That said, I guess I should prepare my mindset and adjust it to think that as long as he's wearing what he himself likes and skating to what he himself wants, no matter how little I myself prefer it, I'll resolve to swallow my complaints and allow myself to like them just because I get to see how much he enjoys them himself. I don't think I'll have to try very hard either because really, there's nothing quite like seeing the guy thoroughly enjoying himself. That's just the kind of magic he weaves. I sure as hell hope he likes that yellow thing on his WoW costume, because I'm starting to think it looks less like it's dyed in piss and more like it's dipped in...uh...peach juice, which I like.

Ah, okay. Doesn't sound overly drastic. So I guess the biggest changes affecting it would only be the new scoring. Thank you!

So...I know I'm realizing this a bit late what with the new season already kicked off with the first of the Challenger series but...what are the new specific rules for the SP again? I know that for the FS, the timing has been shaved down 30 secs, and jump passes have been reduced by one and the second half bonus only applies to the first three passes after the halfway mark but what of the SP?

Oh yeah, that's the one. And looks like I remembered where the performances were taken from wrongly. ^^; Funnily enough, I like these performances done to this piece of music more than the original pieces. I'm more so-so with them in their original incarnation cos I'm not a big fan of the original pieces of music. But this does tell me that Miyamoto's choreography is lovely and that more of his choreography should be used in comps.

Was he able to do two kinds of quads back when he was competing? I seem to recall him only ever doing the 4T... There's an extremely well done fan edit of him skating to merry Xmas Mr. Lawrence (the editor picked his FaOI and Boston performances of TFTT and Requiem, I think). Have you seen it? It's pretty breathtaking.

Lol. It's like his waistline simply gave up and stopped gaining circumference since he was a kid and only his chest continued to get pumped up merrily on its own. His shape has always struck me as somewhat alien. I think it's because it's both longish and has this corsetted waistline thing going on. It's somewhat like a swimmer's meets a sprinter's meets a diver's but even more streamlined and...uhh...aerodynamic? Like one of those futuristic expensive sports cars in sci-fi flicks. Cos where a swimmer's body is sculpted to cut through water horizontally, or air vertically for divers (horizontally for sprinters), his is streamlined/toned to cut through air both horizontally and vertically, while also making tight rotations in quick successions while fighting against gravity. It looks like those of Evangelion mechs. Or one of them alien from, yanno, Alien. His body is unusual by human standards, not just the Japanese demographic.* I'm guessing that's why it's so hard for him to get a suit that fits him even when they are allegedly tailored or altered for him. Dude can probably ever only wear them bespoke, which would be nice to see someday. I was thinking the same. But I guess they only needed the top to fit. Yeah, it's always breathtaking how he does those 4 rotation jumps of his, no matter the jump. He does them so well that sometimes when he lands a little more heavily in the second half, where it would look normal and even nicely done for most others, it looks jarring when he does it. Guy is truly one of a kind in his field. We all stan an Extra(ordinary). *This reminds me of a funny thing this Japanese man (whom I call otosan and his wife okasan cos they're basically my family when I'm in Japan >_<) said to me when we were driving through Nagano last year and stopped over somewhere in the prefecture to see some...short-legged horses (I think they're a Japanese breed) grazing and some trees with narrow and pale trunks (forgot the name) unique to the region. When we were gazing at the horses, he just commented offhandedly that those horses look that way because they were bred by their breeders, the Japanese, to resemble them--all stocky torsoes and stubby arms and legs. He said it, not me. And I remember thinking to myself then, if Hanyu's shape were the norm here, y'all would be breedin' Arabian horses or greyhounds. xD

He's a star that alternates between supernova mode and black hole mode. That picture gives me almost the same vibes as those pics that look bright and normal until you look carefully and spot a creepy and sinister figure somewhere in the background. xD
