2018/19 Coaching changes
WinForPooh replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Han Yan happy news is making me cry! Thank you skating gods! -
That makes much more sense.
-
The Zayak rule - you can only repeat two triples/quads in a skate, and at least one of the repeated jump has to be in combination. With the new rules, only one quad can be repeated, so either one quad and one triple or two triples can be repeated in a free skate. That layout with the 4T would have two 3Lz, two 3T and two 3Lo for three repeated jumps, so the 3-3-3 would have to become a 3-3-2 or one would become an invalid jumping pass. With the 3A-3T and that layout, there'd be two 3As, two 3Lz, two 3Lo and three 3Ts, so that'd be breaking the Zayak rule multiple times. So that layout would have to change either way.
-
That layout would Zayak, wouldn't it? The 3-3-3 combo can't be done, it'll have to be 3-3-2. And if she does the 3A3T then the entire thing has to change, or she'd Zayak many times over.
-
Of course, that makes about a million times more sense!
-
Why wouldn't they zoom out! That reminds me of the Chelsea kit.

That's what I think too, but then I was very definitely shocked that he's jumping quads already. I assumed he'd only jump quads and the difficult triples after getting the total all-clear on his ankle. But he's been jumping 3Lo since end of May! I don't even know what he means by rehab, or by saying goodbye to 4Lz for a while. I'm in the traumatised-by-4Lz camp so I hope he sticks to 4Lo.

Do you guys really think that Yuzu will stick to H&L jump layout difficulty level? I don't know what to think because for the last two seasons, we had a new jump from him that he was stabilising. So he put the newest and most difficult one first. During the Lo season, he also upped it with the CoD. During the Lz season, it doesn't look like he planned to follow it up with a Lo-combo but Lo combos are more difficult, aren't they? The smallest quad because of its mechanics, it would probably make more sense to leave it as a solo. But we know that he managed the 4Lz-3T in practice just fine before everything went to hell, don't we? I've been thinking about this because of the combo backloading, too. If he sticks to his now fairly reliable combos, I think there's a good chance he'll backload all three, but if he adds a new combo, we might see that one in the first half of the programme. All things going well, we probably would've seen either his 4A or his 4Lz combo in competition this season, but I wonder how much the injury really derailed, and what it will be like if he does get the 4Lz back. He said he might have to say goodbye to it for a while but that was before his rehab, right after the Olys. How rehab progresses can change a lot and it looks like his rehab is progressing really well. If he gets his 4Lz back and it's better than ever and doesn't cause him discomfort, I've no idea what to expect.

As long as it's not Chopin, Seimei or Swan. Sparklesalad will be devastated if it is.
-
O/T But I saw 5A as a rank and suddenly thought, if sQuad is a thing, when they finally have boots and whatever else to do quints, would the new quintsters be called sQuint?
-
Oh, so I suppose there will be no H&L for the rest of the ice shows. I wonder what it will be now!

There we have part of the explanation for how many people know some Japanese here! And I'm grateful to them all.

Now that's sunshine.

Proposed changes for next season
WinForPooh replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Wow that spreadsheet is amazing! So much work! Thank you for doing that! -
Was it Olys gala? Because when they all came out for the finale, he did a few seconds of zusaa and LGC spin/step.
-
I know, Etude PW KILLED ME, I'm still dedddd!
-
Didn't that reporter say he was landing 4S-3T in practice at Kanazawa? There was a tweet from a reporter who said they saw it. Ah, he's getting all better.
-
I've been waiting for him to do something from it at some ice show because he does love to zusaa, he went through that whole phase of PW encore for everything! LGC is his new and improved PW.
-
We have more performances from him before the season and no hint of his programme reveal yet. Maybe the omen is for the rest of the ice shows now that Chemistry won't be there. Wouldn't that be cool!
-
I agree with everything you say. Him mentioning a specific jump as a concrete goal just makes it so odd, makes me so suspicious like, really, how long have you been landing those, tell us, we won't tell anybody else. Flip (lol) side is that I hope I'm in the minority because his usual way of only stating goals that he can either make happen himself or has a set time limit he cannot help (like Olys) could put him under much more pressure. He does have a track record of landing his new jump with +GOE in the first competition of the season. After everything he has said about the 4A, I'm honestly a wee bit worried about people just cutting him some slack and not expecting him to keep up his previous track record.
-
*more snort laugh* So the two top Japanese men can have the 4Lip and the 4Flutz between them.
-
Tbh right now I'm leaning towards 'How many 4As have you actually landed and from what entires?! The citizens want to know!'
-
PLOT TWIST! He's also got the 4F.
-
I know, but he usually doesn't make these declarations so... specific. Like, winning Olympics? Doing his best? Winning Worlds? There are multiple strategies that are possible for each and it leaves room for him to train and figure out what works. To me, it;s the difference between saying 'I declare I will bake a cake you will absolutely love for your birthday' and declaring 'I will bake a chocolate fudge cake with peach coulis and sugar butterflies'. Unless you have been making perfect sugar butterflies for yourself in trials, that's a big difference and it's really making my head go all wonky.
-
True, true, A back counter 4A might take a few competitions, we'll just have to be patient. I don;t know what to think, Yuzu talking about specifics of what he wants in the future as his dream is so odd. He's always been very not shy about his goals, but in the win Olympics, win with the ideal performance, all that kind of way. Mentioning a specific jump as his open goal like this has my head all totally scrambled. I don't know what to think.
