2018/19 GP Assignments

Well, that's the wrong way to go about things because IOC will not look at that kindly. In any case, good luck to the Chinese athletes. -
Proposed changes for next season
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Honestly, it was a complete over-reaction, not to mention there was a second, better, proposal by the Canadians to make it 2-4 instead of 1-3; that was much more balanced. But Japan pushed through the 1-3 and talk about short-sighted. They're are not going to catch the Russian ladies but they better not be surprised when others start catching up to them. I would not be surprised at all if some time in the future they move to 2-4. But you know, even with this, I don't think it'll be easy for the men to have all three combos as the last set of jumps, or at least both 3As and a quad. I think Zu will be fine, knock on wood; playing with that 4T-Lo-3S so late in the program will really pay off now. -

This. For the SP it's a non issue I would think, but for the FS it'll end up being three combos for those who have the stamina. Ideally both 3As and a quad. Not easy but then Zu has actually already fiddled with similar in Seimei 2.0. Though tbh, I expect Yuzuru to keep the current SP layout even if the 3A won't get a bonus. -
2018/19 Coaching changes

Yes, and she was injured for quite a bit. Of course, we don't know if Eteri will push her toward the quad again, best to wait and see. I do think she's better at packaging a skater like Bet, so there is that. Best of luck in any case! -

Yes, that would be correct. Place of birth is also "something special" that you need for a 10 in PCS. Smashing, isn't it? -

Whatever they feel like at the moment, ie which skater is on the ice tbh. It's all super vague, and it's hardly the only thing with their should-s and undefined this and that. So business as usual. -
Guess the New Programs! (and win nothing if you do)
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Original in Japanese It's really difficult to pick something for him from the various OSTs from anime/games as I have no idea how much he knows so I went with this in the end! (I would have gone with FF7 and Aerith's Theme for the EX otherwise but the chances of him knowing it ... no idea) -

I forgot I never posted mine SP - Ethno/traditional - Yoshida Brothers - Namonaki Oka (A Hill with No Name) - choreographed by Jeff B FS - Classical - Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - choreographed by Shae Lynn B EX - Anime OST - White Silence by TK (TG OST) - choreographed by David Wilson -
Sigh. I really, truly hope they're being careful with her back. Skating is not worth the potential problems there ... fingers crossed for Anna!

Proposed changes for next season
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I think we may see some slight things, considering skaters often do fiddle with combos in practice but yes. Also seeing how judging is going to be applied is another thing, and frankly, it'll probably be all over the place this season. -
The 2014 Patrick Chan and Yuzu Situation
Yatagarasu replied to theblingmonster's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
It's why I never warmed up to him as a skater (though he's not my cup of tea as one either, his skill is undeniable). I mean if you look at his latest statement about no hating Zu and being proud of himself for it, I yet again have to face palm. Me, me, me. But ultimately it is exactly his ego that did him in. He's a massive talent; his good jumps are often I think overlooked thanks to his fantastic skating skills. I am actually pretty sad that we will never have the chance to see his 4F as he did have it at one point and then, well ... No doubt he had a huge influence on Zu, and in general, on Canadian skating. I wish him well as a coach, hopefully he'll learn not to allow that ego to keep on influencing the younger generations now as he has a an amazing amount of skill to pass on.- 105 replies

A bit late but I am genuinely wondering if we'll even see Kaet this season, especially if all the top girls are going steady or even improving (like Waka or Kaori trying to go for the 3A). And if she does skip, then I'm curious about the impact overall. Hm hm Chiddy should have taught her a lesson.

- they are extremely difficult on the hips - hard to land and rotate fully The benefit of the -3Lo was always there, it's just that not many can do it, never mind do it properly. And then add the issues with the hip, the -3Lo combo being quite a bit worse than the actual loop considering the physics of it and the momentum transference that happens. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more attempts if people get stuck but the possibility of injury also goes up with this, and the issues with it is pretty well known so we might not get such a big increase actually. ___ I'm actually more or less pleased with the repetition that we ended up getting. It's one of the rare things I am pleased with. The circus that was this whole congress though ... heck it's an insult to a circus. -
Yes, I think it's better to simply stick to country teams as we're not only used to it but the overlap would make it very confusing about what goes where. We've already been talking about these individuals in the Team threads so I think simply continuing, no matter the coaching changes, seems prudent.

Yes, I think this is it. He is entirely focused on skating and his career. If he wants to visit places, there'll be time after all of this is over. If he doesn't, there'll be time for whatever he does want. In any case, as long as these are his choices, that he is content with, then I don't see an issue. It's his life, not ours.

If Yuzuru had wanted to go to downtown Toronto, a baseball game, Niagara Falls, or wherever in Canada, he would have gone by now. I am sure he does the things he wants to and if it is learning every corner of Canada or reading, studying, listening to music in his flat, then it's all good. It's his life and he should make himself happy. Don't think it's odd if he doesn't go, just because the majority of people desire to do these things. Conforming to social pressure to do the "normal" things, when your own normal is something else would suck to high heaven. Live your best life Yuzuru. Even if you never see downtown Toronto.

Yes, and I mean I get it why it's better to get Junior funding. Look at Seniors. No Pogo, no Kovtun, Radio is on the reserve team, numbers are shrinking. But Gubanova, per Rus Nats last season, should have been in the main team. So why Junior funding? And if so, she'd presumably do some Junior stuff, so a mix like Konstantinova last season. But you can't do both JGP and GP so ... which? Daria has two GPs, so ok, but Gubanova? Just the host spot at CoR I think. I am confused.
-
And Gubanova. I was just coming over to grumble at all of you. What fresh hell is this? Just ....

Huh. Sasha has improved quite a bit since the last time I saw him. Nice speed for a 5yo too.

2018/19 Coaching changes
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Honestly? I have no idea. Boyang is the biggest problem here. He is his direct competitor, and then comes Jason because while Jason himself isn't there, Nathan sure is, and USFSA would love to hear a little oh hey, you know what happened? Kolyada on the RusFed side. Heck you don't even have to be there, people talk in the corridors, locker rooms, this, that happened. Even with an NDA at least Boyang would know. All they need to see is one full RT of each and that's it, done. So I have no idea. It's possible this is why the separate ice is for right from the start but talk about any relaxing atmosphere being nixed in the bud. Can't say that I'm too thrilled about it but it is what it is. As long as Yuzuru's happy with his training conditions, all good. If he's not then I imagine, at least I hope, that he'll indicate that in some way. Yes, yes, I know but what else, nothing we can do. -

But it only got messy at TCC around big championships. Didn't they say one of the points of Boyang's move is to get used to training alongside top competitors, and to train in a daily competition? Well that went out the window quickly. ETA @Hydroblade I have no idea tbh because these guys haven't even met yet, not truly. I'd have expected some easing in period. I get the issues of secrecy, especially for Yuzuru, as it is impossible to keep anything away from all the major Feds now, thanks to other people in the club, but all of them?
