  1. It sounds reflective, like before 2018 he had this burning desire to win at all costs that was externally motivated, whether from a feeling of his legacy not being complete yet, or to fulfill promises he made to his former self, or for his country, but now he is skating for himself and in the now. He's not as desperate to win as before, because the path he is taking is for himself. Of course he wants to win, but only in his own way while fulfilling his vision of skating. He keeps talking about the journey -- how at every step, being proud of how far he's come, and seeing things come full circle slowly and surely.
  2. I feel sick for the skaters this man and federation has treated like dirt for the last few decades, and for the fact that the ISU just knowingly and willingly let him do it. This power struggle is the stuff of third world dictatorships, not sporting organizations where most of the members are underaged kids!
  3. Nah, if there's a meaning I think it's purely strategic...I don't think he would go through the trouble of changing the programs including music time and layouts just for one tribute...
  4. I feel like going back to a 4:30 program and making it 4:00 is gonna be harder but ... idk, maybe he's just trying to get through this hell-ish season (aren't we all), and then focus on new programs next year? It's way too late to get new programs and if otonal/origin aren't working.... It's not that it's the easy road, it's just that other roads are impossible at this short notice. Sigh, Otonal works fine during non-key moments...it's one of his cleanest SPs. It really only fails in key moments IDK how the lutz (or loop?) would fit into it though, but like, same w/ Chopin.
  5. wow I'm confused but I won't judge....lol
  6. Unless he is being unfairly propped up based on reputation (which he is laughably...not), him retiring to "make room" for others makes zero sense and will likely do them more harm than good. Plus it's not like any man has really stepped up to truly earn even the 3rd Worlds spot in Japan yet. Skaters benefit from being pushed by better skaters and from skating in high-pressure competitions even at a national level. Look at all the tough domestic competitions the Russian ladies have to go through; they come out tough as nails when they get to the big events. In the end, it's still a sport, and having to step up to the plate, both nationally and internationally, helps a young skater grow.
