Make no mistake, Nathan and his team DO ask for all of these accolades & media attention...I'm sure it all happens (mostly) behind the scenes but he isn't represented by a famous sports agency for no reason, and the NA/US newspapers aren't extolling his virtues because figure skating is so popular here. There's nothing wrong with that, most skaters have to capitalize strategically on their fleeting years at the top of the sport. But please, he's not sitting at home upset "oh no why are they talking about me so positively when Yuzu is so much better" pls gimme a break

I wish we could just pretend it doesn't exist but the ISU actually minimizing Yuzu's achievements by LYING about them just feels like too much. But alas. I'll try not to outrage where they can see and count and it as "engagement" -_-

tbh I can see their logic being like "FS was already popular in Japan before Yuzuru" because all fanyus are Japanese (duh), but FS had not been popular in the US for decades and still isn't popular but at least not zero so ... anyway, it sounds like it's already been decided 🙃

I think it's been pointed out before, but 4S, 4T and 3A are very similar jumps. 3A is way more similar to 4S than a good 3S is, so I'd say Liza and Rika have a big head start in getting that quad, whereas Med -- while not impossible -- probably doesn't have a better chance than any other internationally competitive lady... Even someone like Alexia Paganini who isn't a top skater, but has huge jumps, has a better chance than Med (that is to say, both almost nil)... just IMO. (I mention Alexia because she has tried 4T in practice before.) The probability of getting injured training a quad is much, much higher than learning one

Mirai learned a 3A as an adult and has had two surgeries so far because of it. Kudos to her for doing something many think of as impossible though. In many ways even though she was never a top contender, she was still one of the most inspirational skaters in Pyeongchang. But it's a long, hard road, even for Olympic glory, and I think Mirai has even said that she isn't sure if it was worth it in the end. And she was (of the ladies) probably one of the biggest success stories of learning a new element as an adult we have, yet it was still far, far from consistent.

Thanks for doing the research. Do you know which competitions? I was under the impression that he's never done it in an ISU-sanctioned competition. As for possibilities, of course, it's definitely possible for both Jason and Zhenya. But it's gonna take a lot of hard work and luck, that's for sure.

Jason has always been "working" on a quad. For years and years and years. Nothing's changed, lol.

Tuktamysheva is probably one of the best jumpers in ladies' skating, ever. And even her quad toe at the old, old (sarcasm) age of 21 is extremely inconsistent (so far). There are miles of skaters in between Liza and Evgenia in terms of jump technique but they're not all getting (consistent) quads It is what it is.
