Yeah the yuzusorbet translation of the interview mentions he inherited most of his athletic ability from his mother’s side of the family too, those are some impressive genes (though they often say sons resemble their mothers more). The face shape, eye smile, skin and body type, for sure, though I’d say eye shape, nose and especially lips are subtly different. In Chinese we say ‘会选’ (he isolated the best parts of his parent’s features and picked them out) They’re also almost the same height right? (Lol a JP fan compiled a video of the few ninja Yumi-san sightings. You’re not wrong about the carbon copy lol especially when they smile)

Ah yes, I've read that article - his extended family seem to also be very private people who keep a distance from the media frenzy surrounding him, which I think is admirable. I'm a bit of a nerd for familial resemblances purely as an artist -- I find it fascinating to see how children inherent certain facial features from their parents which is why I have this lowkey curiosity about what his father and sister look like (but I acknowledge that's slightly creepy to say out loud, no matter how innocent I know my actual intentions are LMAO so I'm going to go now.... )

Belated thanks for this translation! Some good insights from Plushenko about conquering fear itself and repeating victories. It also drives home just how small the FS world is and how long they've all known each other -- it must be wonderful to be able to see a talented child grow up like that. I'm exceedingly curious about Yuzu's father but I don't think we've ever seen him on camera before right? What sort of parents could raise such a kid...all intriguing questions ; u ;

I’ve seen it pop up a few times on twitter (there was a bit of discussion even here a little while back) — granted, only a couple of people at a time. Hopefully this puts it to rest.

Aww, a surprise birthday how awesome~~ ( : So....looks like she’ll try to skate at GPF and I bet any WD will be absolutely last minute a la Yuzu ): Are there any requirements for how much notice they have to give of a WD? Because there wouldn’t be enough time to call an alternate if she WD after arriving at the comp so the field could be 5 ladies not 6?

This periodic worry flaring up about Yuzu’s Olympic team chances being endangered if he misses Nationals is truly baffling Worry about him not getting a chance to test his full layout if he misses Nats, sure, but the only way he’s not getting on Olys team is if his own body prevents it...

tbh though, it would probably be worse for her momentum to skate poorly and be in danger of losing (or win but not cleanly/decisively and cause more anger about PCS inflation etc.). We saw the effect her non-clean skates already had on public perception in CoR and NHK (before knowing about the injury, granted) - it might shake up Zhenya's image even more because she's built her reputation for 2yrs as being infallible. Better to keep people to their imaginations rather than confirm their worst expectations, is my thinking, and put recovery/health first. But I get why she would also want to skate : /

just asked my t-list abt whether 3-4 weeks rehab means being off the ice completely or not and got this in reply. So fingers crossed... 3-4wks of slowly easing back onto the ice does mean timing is tight for Nationals but we just have to hope he heals properly and doesn't rush

Ahh right, Alina’s TES is no joke and her PCS are rising alarmingly quickly... She does seem to be struggling more with her SP, which could be a factor if we’re talking comp consistency - but we’ll see how she goes with an adjusted layout at GPF. I don’t mean to say Eteri doesn’t care for her but I also think their approach to injury and perhaps threshold for withdrawal may not be the same as eg. TCC. It’ll depend on her condition, we can’t really know anything. Hope they keep their eye on the prize. (Aren’t we also waiting to find out IOC’s decision on Russia competing on Dec 5? Surely not likely they’ll disqualify them right??)

Will it shift her momentum if she wins Euros even if she loses hypothetically the GPF and RusNats? From a recovery POV, that would be the best comp for her to aim for (albeit close to PC). I agree that RusNats are essential. I just don’t want her to push for GPF if it means potentially hurting herself further in which case she might lose RusNats anyway and it feels like the momentum is always with who wins the ‘last battle’ before PC. In the grand scheme of things from a ‘perception’ POV, there’s still time to recover from GPF, less so w RusNats or Euros. The girl might still aim for all of them and I don’t trust her coaching team to slow her down tbh

It’s a lose-lose either way. Are they going to Euros? If she needs that win over Alina for politics or personal momentum, there’s still Rus Nats which would give her more time to heal even if they don’t have Euros. I don’t pretend to know how the politicking works tbh >_> It’s infinitely worse to exacerbate the injury but tbh I don’t know if she’s in an environment that is conscious of that — I wouldn’t be surprised if the attitude is more ‘as long as you can skate, do it’. I mean...she skated at the gala

Yeah I feel like only a very bad condition will prevent her from going to GPF. She’s young and might still feel like she has to prove herself, she skated well with the injury and her coaching team...isn’t exactly Brian. I don’t think they’d force her to WD if she insists on going. But I wish they would surprise me, it’s really not worth going to GPF if it’ll exacerbate the injury either for PC or in the long term ): a bone fracture sounds pretty serious either way I hope she recovers completely for the Olympics and makes the best decision for her health

I don’t think think they do living national treasure awards for people who aren’t in the arts. Clearly it’s time for him to take up pottery or something also damn, the boy really just broke 2 WRs again this year (Is there an award ceremony this year? will he attend? When is it? So many questions???) (I just want more footage of Yuzu interacting w other top atheletes from other sports) LOL omg so relatable. I went to China shortly after drought years and was staying at a relative’s house. Imagine my horror one morning going into the bathroom to find the tap running FULL BLAST for god knows how long, for NO REASON. I almost had an aneurysm.

Omg I can’t believe there’s a name and Wiki page for the drought! How to know you spent your formative years in Australia in the 2000s: you still get MAD ANTSY about any water wastage. I always feel soo guilty about baths too lol Are you Sydney-based? You can sometimes find some yuzu-flavoured snacks at Asian supermarkets. Yuzu and fresh youzi (its Chinese cousin/equivalent) were actually one of my favourite fruits before discovering Yuzuru so I always joke it’s fate ( : you should def try it!

I'm so glad you made me check again because I just accepted JR was opening some sort of skiing line. The tagline on the side says 'Everything is Yuzuru's fault' and I was about to applaud the marketing team like wow someone really went for that (tbh I think that would have been a hilarious ad tagline, albeit for a rather more niche audience that JR usually goes for)

beautiful opening notes to Ballade No 1 & Yuzu just nyooming from one side of the rink to another like ....then jumps the perfect 4Lz (I think the SE works much better than a squat with those soft piano notes, visually, but like. if he wants to sell it to me, I'm open to buying just let him be healthy and happy to do it)
