  1. Lol I wish the Legends segment was longer. It’s curiously structured to basically be a Yuzu endorsement at the start but anyway, key points (from memory, I’m on my phone but will refine later) - They showed Yuzu warming up for 24hr TV jumping a triple jump just with his sneakers - The first ice rink opened in Peru had Yuzu’s picture on inside and outside. The girls inside were huge fans of Yuzu and gave various reasons why (he does impossible jumps, one girl said she wanted to hug him for a long time #same). One girl (the one they focused on) was also using Seimei (I assume as her program music?). Reporter asked if she was crying and she was like ‘I’m not crying!’ and hid her face in her friend’s arm aww. - Flashback to Otani Shohei saying we’re in the Yuzu-era. Yuzu asked something along the lines of what he pays attention to when hitting the ball I think and Shohei says he really pays attention to the axis, then says ‘to say this to Hanyu-kun is a little...’ - Recap of looong NHK press con answer (LOL at 3 minutes Yuzu added ‘sorry, my answer is long’ and then talked for TWO MORE MINUTES) and table apology Yuzu (I didn’t realise Boyang didn’t even get a chance to speak LOL) - Question for the guests was ‘after press conferences, Hanyu does XXXX thing’ - Kanako guessed he greets everyone one by one. The other guesses weren’t serious (I don’t rly understand the references but they were jokes) - the answer was ‘he cleans up after himself’. While cleaning up Yuzu refers to his own mess (I think? Writing this from memory lol) and ‘as a Japanese person it’s embarrassing’, hence he cleans up - Ueda after Kanako explains her reasoning for guessing (‘he also greets the ice’) asks if she does it and she’s like ‘no, I’m the type that goes PA going in and coming out’ ie. she just skates out v quickly). After answer is revealed Ueda also says to Kanako ‘so you also put in the chairs right?’ and Kanako’s like ‘hahaha........’ so he tells her to do her koala face (?? Lol) as a distraction and they’re like ‘that’s a sexy koala face?!!’
  2. I mean I would if it were my younger brother (I do already LOL) but he's mentioned before that his sister is a really kind and gentle soul - she looks like it in the Sendai support video - so maybe she'll be the nice one (lbr he'll probably make fun of himself)
  3. Aww cute, how touching to get definitive proof your message reached him! Can some kind soul just document everything in photos? Hopefully they leave the stuff he signed out for the public to see so the JP fans can do their thing and share photos ( : (I'm glad he's spending time with his entire family...felt sad for him when he said it's been 6yrs of living apart from them and must be tough for his mum too. Although I'm giggling at the thought of 'let's go on a family trip to...LOOK AT PHOTOS OF YUZU'S FACE')
  4. Well yeah, I made that clear in my first post about this topic that my issue was with people using the word 'unfairness' to describe the situation because in the context of skating or competitive sports, it usually implies some violation of the first category. I saw comments on Twitter and even here that were quick to accuse JSF of favouritism or the organisers for somehow giving him a special privilege over other skaters (both before and after it was revealed he didn't actually exclusively rent out the comp rink), and there's simply no proof of that as we currently know. I agree with the substance that the ISU should have rules in place preventing skaters from taking advantage of having more money/resources and it seems an incredible oversight not to have rules against skaters practising on the comp rink prior to competition - my whole point was to say that people accusing them of the first type of unfairness (which is what you essentially do when you say 'Shoma is getting unfair treatment') without substantiated proof are...well, being unfair themselves to do so. Don't really get why you're bringing Yuzu and Kohei's greatness into this (which I wholly acknowledge), mind explaining your point? = _ =; unfair now no longer looks like a word.
  5. He wrote thank you in Japanese, English, French, Korean, Chinese and Russian ;; Sweet boy, darling boy as always I guess he is in Sendai then? Hope he's having a good time there and healing well
  6. I don't think anyone should have access to the competition ice before official practices but it's the ISU's fault that it's not a rule. Maybe you're not understanding my issue. If the reason for Shoma having access that other skaters don't can be proved to be attributed to some systematic issue (eg. other skaters being banned from practising while he's allowed, some conspiracy deal between French venue + JSF to give him exclusive access, JSF denying another JP skater the opp because he's taken it), then it can be said to be clearly 'unfair'. If the reason is merely because he has the sponsorship/money/coaches that enable him to have access to competition ice that others don't have, well...that's 'unfairness' that is unfortunately part of a wider 'game' in the field and life: luck, his hard work leading to Toyota wanting to sponsor him, his team being good at time/money management/getting sponsors etc. You could also say it's 'unfair' that Yuzu has Ajinomoto as a food sponsor so he gets special diet help that other athletes don't get, or Marin gets more publicity because her talent agency gets her TV deals. I'm arguing this on principle*. I do think the competition ice loophole is a pretty big one because it potentially impacts competition performance - and that's on the ISU to address. But the world doesn't owe you fairness in the latter category, as much as I wish it would. All the skaters are owed is fairness in the first category and there's no proof of Shoma or his team violating any of those. A team with perhaps more 'noble' ideals of sportsmanship may not take advantage of the loophole and I think it's understandable people feel resentful their favourites don't have the same resources but it's not 'unfair' in the same way as the first category. That was my main issue with calls of 'unfairness'. *so please don't feel like this is a personal attack or anything. I feel like people have this misconception I'm being hostile but I just think it's an interesting discussion and I'm trying to break down my own thought process and principles because it's a tricky area. Open to having my mind changed. Or happy to drop the discussion, whatever.
  7. Are people seriously worrying he won't be picked for the Olympic team?? There are three places, not one, he'll be fine. The only way he's not going is if his own body prevents it, which is what we need to really hope won't happen. The only thing I can see World Standings affecting is the start order for Olympic SPs and I don't even know if they decide that based on World Standings (someone verify? It doesn't seem to have been the case for Sochi but things may have changed).
  8. I have no illusions they all start on the same playing field but it's not Shoma's fault he has more resources to take advantage of this. Again, refer to my example w note-taking above. It's the nature of the sport and competition, even if in an ideal world they shouldn't exist (and the ISU should make rules to minimise stuff like this happening). Clearly we're not going to agree on the unfair part though and I still feel like you missed my point but yeah, let's drop this.
  9. I'm not saying it's unlikely but there's no proof right now that the other French skaters didn't get a chance to skate - when there is proof, go and be up in arms about it, I'll join you. Right now, he's just being criticised at length for assumptions that people are making, which strikes me as unfair no matter how likely/unlikely it is. And Mai's not in France yet, so that's irrelevant. I didn't accuse you of saying Shoma is being unfair? We're talking about 'unfair treatment'. It's only unfair treatment at this point if he did any of the 3 things I pointed out above and we have no proof of any of it.
  10. Apparently he went to both (source screenshotted here). We have no idea if the French skaters were offered the same option or not - if he was the only one allowed on the comp rink and other skaters were explicitly barred then that's one issue but, again, no evidence. Apologies, I don't think you're demonising him (I may have projected stuff I'm seeing on twitter here) but I do take issue with how you're insisting it's 'unfair treatment'. In what way is it unfair if he hasn't broken a rule or any of the things above and other skaters hypothetically get the same opportunity? I definitely think the ISU should have rules against allowing competitors to go on the comp ice before but that's on the ISU.
  11. Do you have a source for that? My impression is that he's not preventing other skaters from doing the same thing, just that they don't for various reasons (also, other sources on Twitter have said the French skaters are also there so idk). Shoma has the sponsorship/ability to take these extra steps to acclimate, of course he's going to take advantage of that. Just like you could argue that my friend and her boyfriend being in the same class share notes/collaborate on writing notes whereas I have to write it all myself could give them an advantage, I can't really be mad or call it 'unfair' - they're not breaking any official rules and they're not preventing me from finding a friend to do the same thing. Sure I think the ISU should have rules in place (esp for athletes from smaller nations who have much less financial power) but they don't, so you can't blame anyone for exploiting loopholes. You could say he's lucky, but I don't agree with people demonising him for it. If we can't prove the JSF is using a disproportionate amount of funds to let him do it at the expense of other TJ athletes or he's breaking any rules, the hate should stop.
  12. I don't know if he's actually capable of growing one...it'll be a seedy one, you may have nightmares
  13. I can def hear a NA accent, I just can't tell the difference between a specifically Canadian vs American accent over his Japanglish since I've never heard him pronounce the more 'telling' words lol. He's definitely picked up the fillers from TCC coaches I reckon. Still struggles with tense a little bit and likely has a store of stock phrases he's saved up in his brain for English interviews (you can sort of see him looking for recognisable words in interview questions sometimes and then not really answer the question...aka. how I 'understand' Korean). Very cute ( : I appreciate he tries very hard to speak in English for foreign reporters, even though it takes awhile. It must be frustrating.
  14. I apparently still have a face and telephone voice that lets me dodge telemarketers and people wanting me to do surveys on the street by telling them I’m under 18. I have another acquaintance who has looked and dressed like a 40yr old Chinese dad since he was 18... so yeah, it all depends. LOL Yes, Yuzu does immediately age up when he speaks seriously. Except if he says stuff in English. Or gets too excited in any language. Heh.
  15. Lol Yuzu jumped on the GPF podium to #expose shitty French event planning. The medals were just awful. Why not sacrifice the bouquets so you can at least give them a non-plastic medal smh Yuzu looks young mostly because of his excellent skin and lack of eyebags from working an office job lol but he does look different from when he was 17/18-ish (where he looked even younger bc baby fat on his face and slight rabbit teeth that got magically fixed somehow lol). His 20-23 is relatively unchanged though. I often find non-Asians tend to drastically underestimate our ages whereas conversely, I’ve had European/American friends I’ve assumed to be MUCH older than they are (there was a friend who I thought was 25 when I met him....he was 18.....)
  16. Interesting, I mostly just hear his Japanese accent lol. But then again as an Aussie, I don’t have a particularly sensitive ear for American/Canadian differences except for key words (I imagine to you guys, it’s like NZlanders and Australians. I can pick out a NZ accent quite easily but apparently it’s harder for people elsewhere)
  17. Rough gist of what he's saying here 'Getting an injury means there are still areas where I'm not good so I will need to work on it to get better. Of course, not just focusing on the Lutz but a lot of other areas as well and I will work to deliver another good performance. If you count the days until the Pyeongchang Olympics, it may seem like it's coming up soon but... I can only think of the future and only leave the past behind. At the moment, there's no choice but to do the things I need to do, one by one. I need to really really save my strength so I can let it out (at JP Nationals). Well, I'm in a condition where I actually have quite a lot of power, apart from my right ankle. I will become a stronger version of myself and overcome this coming month.' *My translation is much more literal than Iron Klaus' one but I wrote it without realising she posted so ehhh, I'll just let this be its poor cousin (it's hard to see him struggle for words because he usually doesn't but it's admirable he can keep himself together enough for an interview already so... Also, it doesn't sound like he will give up on the 4Lz though I didn't expect him to... also I still stick to my belief it wasn't bad technique but the need to get better at recognising his own condition so hopefully that's something he'll also work on)
  18. Speed translation of Yuzu's words here (usual disclaimers apply...may be some errors) 'I mostly have the feeling that there's nothing to be done (about the situation). I have a lot of frustration (kuyashii) about being in a condition where I can't do anything. (I think the voiceover was explaining how he felt during/after the fall) - 'I thought I have to skate no matter what so I tried to skate for my runthrough, but I couldn't properly (place weight/land?) on my right foot so I did it while thinking 'ah, this might be pretty bad/difficult'.
  19. omg does he have one? I don't think I've ever heard him say the word 'about' which is usually how I can tell
  20. Jason checked the hiragana for his message with Yuzu with Satoko before he went on the Kiss and Cry ; u ; <33333 Said he was really sad and he really liked Yuzu in Japanese before switching to English in the interview ( :
  21. 10 days is okay, better than what we were dreading for sure. Fingers crossed rehabilitation and resuming training goes to plan -- if his crutch-speedwalking is any indication, he's going to be okay @CupidsBow said it best and made me laugh out loud with this so I'm sharing it:
  22. Giiirl why are you putting yourself down like this?? The board, your writing is all beautiful because you wrote it with a sincere heart, despite being sick and heartbroken - only a psychopath would say something mean (they can say hi to my fists if they do) and JP Yuzu fans are absolutely not! Please don't ever feel ashamed of doing something so lovely! If you're referring to this comment "最後はめんどくさくて結子のパクツイ" as the one you suspect to be a mean comment, it's absolutely not the case. The person who posted the photo of the board (Mayu) said in her caption that this is the board from the person who gave her friend (Yuiko) the swan origami. The tweet says: "finally, I 'packtweeted' Yuiko, sorry for being annoying". パクツイ is a slang term meaning copying someone else's Twitter post without adding anything new. She's apologising for being annoying by piling onto her friend Yuiko's post (presumably because Yuiko posted about the swan first). Nothing to do with you at all and very much a tongue in cheek comment in general.
