  1. lmao we're going to have straight days of Pooh thunderstorms if PC is really where he's going to make his comeback
  2. Sasuga Marin's popularity, to have a Spirits of the Athletes documentary already. Does anyone know which other skaters Spirits of the Athletes has covered? o: I only know the two Yuzu ones (2012, 2017?) but I like how detailed the documentaries are
  3. I went ahead and made it - need to add in all the references we saw in the past (also it occurred to me after making it that maybe General Skating was the more appropriate thread. Please change if relevant Mods!)
  4. (linked by @Sammie originally) Misha's entire IDF FS costume a bit of a Chopin 3.0 tribute tbh : P
  5. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so we might as well keep a record. A thread to post Yuzuru references, skating or otherwise, and other skaters. Because we know you're only a true Icon(TM) when people start copying you
  6. I’m glad someone is recognising how much star power/popularity he has especially in Asia... but watch Western media continue to talk about how his Japanese fans travel with him everywhere I wonder how large his Korean fanbase is and their demographics. Chinese fanbase at comps from what I’ve seen tend to be younger and more Extra™ with their cosplay/fanart/Winnie the Pooh references, Japanese fans tend to be aunty fans. Korean fanbase has excellent fancam quality so I’m excited for PC ;;
  7. okay actually just watching the clip quickly, it's literally just an informative recap of his career to date with a bit of description thrown here and there (granted some of them are quite nice/poetic), they don't really say any anything particularly interesting. I'm also amused that they didn't really do a detailed recap of Seimei and his 2015 records (they were literally like 'from 2015 - 2016 he got 2 golds at GPF and 2 silvers at Worlds' and moved on!) but featured NDP lol
  8. ohhhhhh. Knowing Chinese fans, this will probably have like 20401 subtitles by the time I wake up tomorrow but if there's no translation by then, I'll give it a shot (should be faster/more certain than my Japanese LOL)
  9. lol so that's what it was (I saw screenshots on Twitter) - another popularity vote for the winter athlete that leaves a strong impression, chosen by women in their 20s - 50s.... well. Yuzu's prime fan demographic is strong
  10. let's just call it cherrypicking hating and leave it there, the haters' favourite tactics (from the 1-2 disturbingly active Twitter accounts I stumbled upon) appear to be drawing false equivalencies and selectively ignoring context so eh
  11. Ironically, that besti squat video was used by some of Yuzu's antis as proof he was a hypocrite for being angry about Denis getting in his way at practice. It does look a bit close to me, but camera angles can hide the actual distance between the athletes and Boyang was not moving so I think you can make distinctions about the situation
  12. lmao I love the boy but idk if it's the colouring/lighting that flattens him, the added voiceover (?) or because he's not smiling/engaging from his eyes when he's talking to the camera, it's kind of a bit uncanny valley at the end o_o (the pillow hug is cute though lmao, yuzu just endorsing enough stuff to stock up his own home)
  13. LOL this was a vote for the athlete whose successes next year was the most anticipated and therefore who the voter wanted to treat to a “tonkatsu” (not sure if tonkatsu has double meaning here because it’s in quotes but ‘katsu’ can also mean win in Japanese so maybe a pun?). Yuzu came 4th among the men and 1st with the women, 2nd overall behind Ohtani Shohei but there were only 83 votes for him in total? A bit confused because it also says n=1000 so it would suggest 1000 people participated Anyway it’s always a nice to know Yuzu isn’t short of fanboys too
  14. Tbh I was surprised by the article yesterday saying she’d be ready to compete by Nats because I thought a bone fracture would take longer to heal than ligament damage (non-tears or light tears) but can I kindly Nope out of any further bad news...... sadly, the time is ripe for people to exploit the injured athletes for news and Zhenya and Yuzu are in a similar situation so... best to just wait until her team personally shares any news
  15. Extra™ until the end. My main fear is re-injury so I agree with Nobu...go slowwwwly
  16. I’m out at the moment so just key points - Nobu knew he wasn’t back on the ice because when he wished Yuzu happy birthday privately, Yuzu replied with ‘thank you for your kind words as always, I’m working hard to get back on the ice’ - says Yuzu is an athlete with the ability to recover his quads in two days (!!! someone please double check this, i was shocked) so the main thing he wants to say is ‘GO SLOWLY’ lol essentially listening to them, I hope he takes time off Nationals. I didn’t realise how close PC was ahh
  17. Sorry sharing my own translations but it's faster. Yuzu saw the bus stop poster and said 'wow (sugoi)...' and also got a birthday cake and well wishes from TCC coaches and staff, I'm glad https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/article?a=20171214-00010002-jisin-ent
  18. he's yuzu, of course he's trying his best to make everything and I doubt media would mention WD until the very last minute to avoid hurting ticket sales tbh I'm just so sad he might not get a chance to skate in Japan this year if he skips nationals, especially considering there were 3 opportunities to do so...I feel like he's always energised by his home country. But...eyes on the prize and on full recovery ):
  19. so more damage to ligament than first thought, explains longer recovery time....the boy cannot catch a break
  20. forgive the profanity but I laughed so hard at this so I had to share
  21. Brian's face did what my dad's did with age and grew horizontally - I usually can't believe it when he shows me photos of him when he was younger. Given Yuzu seems to be a pretty classic ectomorph, my hunch is that he'll stay relatively similar to how he is now. Or I mean...he could turn into Tsuzuki-sensei/Kikuchi-san, who knows
  22. I also think he needs a LP runthrough more than the SP especially if he's going to keep the 4Lz but that gives him even less time to prepare for the 'real' SP and would be more taxing...and there's both the risk he might leave his best skating on the team ice versus the benefit of getting any nerves out of the way and giving himself kuyashii fire if he screws up. man, I do not envy him or his team right now, I'm sweating just weighing up all his options let alone actually having to carry them out
  23. Okay I just dug up his noodle-boy-mushroom Firebird at 2007 Jnr Nationals FS and ahh... the half-filled long side of fans and empty short sides compared to now I do wonder how many of the audience members then are still his fans today...they would have followed his career for an entire decade and watched him grow up ;;
  24. Aw, Yuzu and Shoma share some pretty unique career parallels which I suppose is pretty natural for skaters who end up at the top of their field (also novice!Shoma looks completely like he should be competing at novice level and/or looks about 8yrs old imagine if they let him compete in Seniors back then) Actually in light of all this.......no surprise he managed to be one of the youngest OGMs (granted, second youngest after Dick Button) LOL boy was seriously the embodiment of 'no matter how good you are, there's always a small Asian boy who can do it better' to his competitors
