  1. I didn't know about the Kojiki specifically, but being Chinese, our creation myth has at its center, Pangu. East asian creation myths are not peaceful events. There's a lot of warfare, pushing shoving etc. For example, for Pangu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangu): So when I see the arm movements from Yuzu, I guess I see Pangu separating and weaving the line between earth and the sky. And each movement, including the poses, are just more of this creator separating out and creating the land/rivers/forests etc. It's not so much christian, but more of ancient folklore creation myths. And well, when Yuzu gets into his ending pose, I think of that as when earth is finally created and Pangu is able to rest. I'm not sure if this helps with the imagery, but most of Chinese creation myths involve a creator who has to essentially sacrifice itself to create the universe and its entities. As for Japanese myths, I guess the equivalent would be Amaterasu, and maybe Izanagi no Mikoto? But in general, creation myths in east asia are kind of epic struggles of a universe being borne. And I suppose the skating would be to portray, in an allusive way, the struggle that Yuzu had to create what is "his" skating. As for how I might juxapose this myth against Yuzu's skating (sorry I need to sleep soon, so it's a tad rushed):
  2. Well I'm glad they're creating shadow clones for him, as if he needed more. Time to get them clones to go practice, chop chop.
  3. IMO, it doesn't really matter. Even if Yuzu never set foot in Waseda, it doesn't diminish what he's achieved in skating. To get to his level you need to be both talented (a natural genius) and hard-working. One without the other will not a Yuzuru Hanyu make. There are plenty of geniuses who may have had all the time in the world to devote themselves to their chosen craft-but if they don't put in the effort, they won't become the recognized geniuses.
  4. You want to keep the edge of your jumping leg (left for me and Robin, right for you) on more of a straight line, the curve of the sal takeoff looks a bit like a fish hook if you do it right. Hmm...how to think about it. Well the way I tend to think of the salcow jump is this: you're checking the back inside edge (LBI or RBI) so at that point your center of balance is slightly in towards the circle (almost straight). Then you swing your free leg and arms inwards and upwards to do the jump take off-this point your balance is shifting more toward the inside edge (or your free leg), before going straight to between your legs for pre-rotation, and then launching. This is why you have that / \ shape in the legs when you do the swing-if you use the 3 turn method. For the mohawk version, your legs are more straight, but you swing your center of balance/gravity straight and up faster.
  5. Well his current planned layout is: Yuzuru LP (Helsinki/planned): 4Lo 4S 3Lo 4T// 4T3A+SEQ 3F3T 3A1Lo3S ChSq= 76.98 which is actually higher than his old one. I think part of it is while the SEQ reduces, due to it being in the second half, the 10% bonus makes up for that loss in BV quite well. (I don't remember if the 0.8 multiplier is to both jumps or just the second jump in the seq, but I used it on both, so it could be higher if it's just he 2nd jump affected). Personally, I kind of prefer the 3A1Lo3S instead of the 4T1Lo3S because the former is more stable and I think he has a shot of good GOEs on it. But the all combos in the second half is scaring me a bit. Also, I've been playing around with a couple layouts. The boy really is min/maxing his layout. Without adding in Lz jumps, the only other one I've tried is 4Lo 4T 3Lo 3F //4T3ASEQ 4S3T 3A1Lo3S ChSq= 77.42. The marginal gain in BV really isn't that high, and it still runs the all combos in second half risk.
  6. Okay, I really really want an english translation of this now. T_T C'mon japanese publishers.
  7. They're saints really. I mean, they could be greedy capitalists and just sell and publish it because Fanyus will fork over money. But no, instead they are considerate of our wallets, even while magazines with sultry space kitty are hitting the shelves and flooring people left and right.
  8. True, they could even sell the english version on Amazon JP. The original transcripts had to have been in english, right? Unless Brian somehow speaks Japanese now.
  9. First we get the sultry shush pose and that gets followed up by the note about Notte Stellata at WC 2017. Not sure what to feel...onions are all chopped up, I've moved on to the scallions reserves at home.
  10. ...he's too kind. I hope onion growers can keep up, else we're going to run out of onions to chop.
  11. It'd be a horror movie. You know that the trailer will have nothing but a voice saying, Grollum-like, "My Precious..."
  12. What's wrong with rotating those pictures? I mean, even Yuzu himself said that he's not sexy, he doesn't have that type of mature aura, he has no idea what that means.
  13. I see a challenge. You cannot expect an fanyu to see a challenge and not accept it.
  14. Okay, who was the photographer who took those photos and what prompts did he/she give Yuzu?! "Okay Hanyu Senshu, can you give us a sexy, bedroom eyes look?" "What does that mean?" "Like you want to lure 4A to land on ice properly.” "Like this?" "Yes yes, exactly like that!" And then months later when asked, Yuzu will blink innocently and say, "I don't see myself as sexy. What does that mean? I was just thinking about 4A. Heeheheee."
  15. It's kind of amusing that it's the same person. One is ever so sultry, the other is ever so panicked. The contrast is outstanding.
  16. Unfortunately (or fortunately) , I don't think it's physically possible to take off a jacket (or strip off a shirt) while hydroblading due to your body being bent very forward and towards your knee. However, it is possible to do so during an Ina Bauer. So you could propose the jacket be taken off during an Ina Bauer, or Spread Eagle, or maybe even a twizzle if he doesn't go too fast and maintains enough rotations.
  17. So someone was asking about layout talks....I've done 2, but I'm very suspicious of Kolyada's. So far these are the 2 layouts. I've added in ChSq because it's a pretty stable BV. Yuzuru Hanyu: SP: 4S 3A 4T3T = 31.4 LP: 4Lo 4T 3Lo 4S3T// 4T1Lo3S 3A2T 3A ChSq= 76.11 BTW, for those wondering if Yuzu could move things around, if he moves the 3A to be second half, he would be at 32.2 Kolyada: Mikhail is an interesting case. He might be bringing the 4Lz, he might not (have yet to land it), and I suspect that the 3S2T should be a 4S2T and that the 3Lz1Lo2S that shows up in his protocols should have been a 3Lz1Lo3S. But anyways, here we go. SP: 4T3T 3Lz//3A= 28.4 v2: 4T 3Lz3T//3A=28.4 v3: 4T3T 4Lz//3A=34 LP (v1-if he addes 4Lz): 4T3T 4Lz 3A 3S2T//4T 3Lo 3Lz1Lo2S ChSq= 65.56 LP (v2-the one he's been landing): 4T3T 3Lz 3A 3S2T// 4T 3Lo 3Lz1Lo2S ChSq= 59.96 LP (v3-maxed out version?): 4T3T 4Lz 3A 4S2T// 4T 3Lo 3Lz1Lo3S ChSq= 74.26 LP (v4-where he gets 4S but no 4Lz): 4T3T 3Lz 3A 4S2T//4T 3Lo 3Lz1Lo2S ChSq= 65.36 My guess is Mikhail will end up getting either V1 or V4 of the LP if he keeps at it. Has he landed a clean 4S before though? But he will need more than a quad toe to reduce the difference with Yuzu. And Yuzu is one of the less intense layouts. As for SP, Mikhail might as well stick to v1 or v2, same BV but more likely to get better GOE. Granted, he might go for the 4Lz, but considering stability and -GOEs on falls (even if he only gets -3 on falls), he'd lose over 4 GOE points even if everything else is clean. Plus the cap on PCs, so he loses too much IMO. Shoma: think this is pretty much final SP: 4F 4T3T//3A= 33.5 LP: 4S 4F 4T 4T2T//3A 3A1Lo3F 3S3T ChSq= 76.78
  18. I'm fine with more videos, my only beef with any such system is who is going to call it? No one's going to call for URs the TP didn't spot, it's really going to be debates about calls that the TP did call but the skater/team/fed didn't think should have been called. The results of which could go 2 ways: 1) more accountability-maybe because of heavy scrutiny, the TPs will actually start calling EVERYTHING to gain legitimacy, and we might see some interesting protests lobbed at TP, such as "skater XXX didn't get called, but why did my skater get called?" But usually those type of calls might come from smaller or med sized feds, or med-power teams in the larger feds. This might push TPs to be more "equal" across all teams since they don't know when that protest will be done. But at the same time, I find it a bit hard to see why smaller feds might send review requests in such a manner, since it seems to piss off larger powers that they rely on for training etc. 2) More political sway over TP- this is the second scenario which I am more fearful of. That the skaters and teams who send the most review requests are from larger feds. So it becomes a case of whether TP is willing to piss off a large fed. Which would then reduce the TP calls to be concentrated even more so among the med to smaller feds. I don't know if Vince's team is stupid, but doing action 1 of the above is probably not in their best interests if they say another skater from the US should have received calls.
  19. I've submitted my answers. My brain was warring between my faith in Zu and his inclination to not go super clean at first GP. Well, I've put my faith in him and boing-boing going to the top. Please do well, both of you and Cha. (and universe, please don't contradict me on this) I do wonder, how many of us think the top 2-3 ladies will go clean? Because mathematically, I think short of major bombing on the 2+falls scale in the LP and super clean from everyone else, Zagi should win considering how how judges score her over everyone else so far. But so far, I've been jinxing the ladies more, with my first place picks getting on podium, but usually not in first place. o_O My men have so far been steady.
  20. Here's the problem I have- if the goal is for fair calls for everyone, it won't happen. Unless the person calling for the review has the authority to request a replay check of another skater. So in the end, we'd still get selective calling. In the end, it becomes a case of whose fed is stronger than whom. So it might be possible that bigger fed skaters will get their review requests accepted, and have calls reversed. But smaller feds and medium feds either won't use the replay rights (due to not wanting to upset the applecart), or will not get calls reversed. And if a big fed doesn't get initial calls, it's unlikely that they'll suddenly start getting replay reviews and get new calls added. In the end, a larger fed could use this politically to berate TPs, which begs the question, does TP now also turn into a political game? So while I support the idea of more cameras, more angles, more technology, I'm very cautious about how fair this process will be used.
  21. So uh guys, thoughts? https://realnoevremya.com/articles/2991-video-replays-to-be-introduced-in-figure-skating
  22. What? I'm always starving after skating, unless I went super light.
  23. Other than centering, um, you just get used to it?
  24. You might want to switch blades as soon as you hit spinning. =D Good luck and have fun!
  25. Jackson freestyles? Should be fine for now. But probably won't hold you up if you plan to jump.
