Long but interesting interview. He says the quad Axel is just too risky to try because it's dangerous for the health. On the question whether Nathan could be able to do a quint, he said time would tell but he thinks Kolyada would be more able to do it, he praises his jump technique. I liked the metaphor about coaching vs picking blueberries...

I'm quoting you here. I don't know when rabbit is shutting down...but we could organize a farewell party, perhaps this weekend? Who'd be interested in it?

2019/2020 Season Program Announcements
sallycinnamon replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Ivett Toth will skate to a swing SP next season (choreo by her coaches and Nora Hoffmann), and she'll keep her free program from last season (Torn and Resolve by Nathan Lanier, choreo by Benoit Richaud) http://moksz.hu/mukorcsolya/megtalaltam-a-helyemet -
Maybe he's already married then, the engagement happened months ago after all. I wish him all the best.
-
I hope we'll see Kolyada's 4Lz often next season! When he lands it, it's a beauty. The article says engagement and fiancée, so what's the truth?

Interesting interview with Zhulin about Sinitsina/Katsalapov, the Montreal school, Bobrova/Soloviev, Medvedeva and the Russian girls (3 A and Valieva): https://fs-gossips.com/alexander-zhulin-if-medvedeva-asks-me-i-will-choreograph-her-blues-with-a-russian-soul/

His left knee was injured recently and the only jump he is allowed to is Loop, that's why he's practicing it.

It just means that that he is in the National team based on his placement at Canadan Nationals where he finished second. Top 3 can be named to the team.

General Skating Chat
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
It's possible that they won't find the required number of officials from any random federations - especially not at ISU competitions where ISU qualification for tech specialist, controller and referee is needed. So maybe they'll go with the other rule and the specialist/controller and the referee will be from those federations those skaters are "more likely" to finish in top 5. Russia, USA, Canada, France, Japan, China and so on could benefit from this a lot. This again will be better for bigger feds and not good for smaller federations imo. Or if they find all the people with the required qualifications...not sure they'd all be really well-trained. Either way, being unbiased is one of the main duty of any official but not sure this new rule will help it.- 6,825 replies

General Skating Chat
sallycinnamon replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
An ISU Communication was published about the Code of Ethics requirements for officials: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/rules/fsk-communications/21534-isu-communication-2265/file There are specifications of conflict of interest (1.1.): I think some of these specifications are vague; for example how can you predict that a skater/couple would finish in the Top 5? (see 1.4 and 1.5 points) It's possible that the second case would happen more often that not: It won't be possible anymore that a president/vice-president/general director etc of a federation will be Referee of member of the Tech Panel, so no Leanna Caron case (who worked in the Tech Panel for ID at the Olympics, while she was the president of the Canadian federation). In my opinion, all this would work much better if the rules, all specifications and clarifications would be clear and there would be an efficient system of accountability of the officials.- 6,825 replies

I'm curious about his free program choice, too - whether Origin stays even though it's a demanding and fast program or he choses something else, as you say more mellow, maybe slow. In the long term, I agree that spitting up the big jumps may be a solution, as @LadyLou mentioned too he needs to consider his stamina and the burden of his ankle and at the same time, consider BV too. It was pointed out already, but if he doesn't do 4S he could do 4Lo or maybe 4Lz, depending how he'll improve it with it. But 4A? SP is about what the skater can do consistently with quality and it's not about experimenting with layouts or taking too big risks. The one point BV advantage of 4A is really not much at all, but the risk of mistakes/negative GOEs and even injury is so high that a more consistent quad with less BV but with high GOE is more rewarding and can bring more points to the table. Not sure we would see an emergency 4A even in the FS, in the SP definitely not..especially if the planned 3A was in the second half of the program. It's just...incredibly hard even with a jump that's been really consistent, and we're talking about Nessie here, not just any quad.

re 4A Yuzu knows what will be the best to do and how can he land that monster of a jump more than anyone else. But I think it may be possible that it'll be baby steps first and then if everything goes well, he'll have more time to work on it then, including entries/exits ...because of its incredibly difficulty I really don't expext him to land it for the first time with absolute perfection. I really doubt he'd add the 4A in the SP though. It'd be extremely risky - both points-wise and injury-wise - and unnecessary too. He did the 4Lo in the SP one season before the Olympics, and he did it right from the beginning of the season because he wanted to stabilize the jump and get consistency on it. The 4Lo would have been a weapon at the Olympics but then as we know at the end he didn't need the jump to win the Gold medal. The situation with the 4Lo was different and I think the 4A is no comparable with it. Except of the Loop, he put all his other quads in his free skate when he first jumped them - and first he jumped them once, not twice. It's very risky to introduce a new jump in a program and it is better to do so in the free where there is more room for errors. In a short program there is no room for a big mistake and I also don't think there is more breathing room to recover or to get back focus there than in the free skate. The time is too short for that and there are many required elements to do in an SP. With a less consistent layout one can easily find himself 10-15 points behind the top guys, which then affects many things in the free skate, the starting order, the PCS, etc. That can cost someone too much. Add the fact how incredibly difficult the 4A is even compared to any other quads...the risk of injury, etc. so like with his 4T, 4S and 4Lz, I think it wouldn't be different with the 4A either, one could be in the free skate, and the SP layout can be something that is more consistent. And because it's already 1st of July Japanese time, which is officially the first day of the 2019/2020 season, I would like to wish Yuzu all the best for the coming season; I hope he will reach all his goals he sets for himself and he'll be satisfied with his achievements and performances But what's the most important: I wish him good health and hope he'll be healthy in the new season. Good luck, Yuzu!

Ah, thanks for the summary! This is why the background looks so good. I'm expecting some new cute fanarts with turtles Many

What is he talking about here? The background looks...relaxing!

Yuzu is back in Toronto!

Javi has been invited to JO in the past six years while Yuzu hasn't been there, the probability for him competing there is the same this season - zero. Japan Open is an invitational competition too, and is in collaboration with IGM (+the main sponsor is Kinoshita), and since Yuzu is not affiliated with any agencies it may be one of the major reasons why he doesn't go to this event (he was invited as a special guest after the earthquake in 2011 but that was the only time). The timing of the event is really not convenient for him either, after his Challenger event and before his first Grand Prix. Travelling to long distances, dealing with jet lag could affect his health and training as well. It doesn't give out ranking points, and there wouldn't be a chance to skate to the short program either so going to this cheesefest competition wouldn't bring him much. The same can be said about Shanghai Trophy (minus the IGM thing), but it's at least nice that they invited him
-
It's an invitational senior event for all four disciplines, which will be on the same weekend as Japan Open (3-5 October).

Yes, Averbukh said in this article that he'd choreograph Liza's new SP. Not sure what happened, maybe she changed her mind and Averbukh will do the choreo for her FS then? We'll find out.
