THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING!! Coming from behind, being foot perfect, and winning by a hair!

I don't watch pairs much, but this event was just phenomenal. I'm so happy for her. I cried watching her skate and her reaction after she won. Even though I prefer the Chinese pair like many others, reading up on Aljona's history no one can say they are a more deserving Olympic gold medalist. Seeing her reaction in the kiss and cry made me cry. And seeing the other skaters congratulating her, Wenjing patting Aljona's leg, she knew what it meant for her. Losing by less than 1/2 point must suck a lot, but Sui and Han are very young and have their own home Olympics to dominate, and an Olympic silver medal is absolutely nothing to scoff at. And I'm happy for Meagan and Eric too, because they are two time world champions, and it would suck to be two time world champions and retire without an individual medal. And they're perfectly happy with bronze. (I remember when after 2016 Worlds people were saying that the OGM was basically a sure thing for them...how things change in such a short time.)

Is it just me or have the Olympic veterans been over-performing a little and the newcomers been under-performing? (Thinking of Aljona, Sui/Han, Tarasova/Morozov, Duhamel/Radford, and in the team event, Patrick, Nathan, and Kolyada.) Never underestimate Olympic pressure!!

Oh my I didn't think I'd feel such a rollercoaster of emotions - ranging from heart arche in sadness for Sui/Han and heart ache in joy for Savchenko/Massot. I thought, no matter what, I'd have one team I liked, getting the gold. Now I'm like, no matter what, I have one team I liked loosing the gold .... And I don't even care that much about pairs ....

Does that type of music at the beginning normally play in a ballet class? I don't recall anything other than classical in my younger years ballet or even dance classes.

Idk  It's what commentator said during TE

What kind of story is that?? It doesn’t give anything to the performance, just kinda explains the costume change. Hmph.

Just bad choreo and not best idea... I agree if you don't understand the story during skating better just skate to the nice music (like I think Med doesn't need voiceovers in SP). An example of good storyline is Bobrova/Soloviev's FS in ID - that I can understand without explanation.

Just that clutch FS -- wow. Talk about go big or go home. Quads and 3As were all perfect. Seeing her reaction in the kiss and cry made me cry. To be honest, only in ladies singles does it seem that newcomers do well with olympic pressure. Many of the pairs, dance and men's especially, they usually don't get the gold at their first outing, it is usually the 2nd or 3rd olys that they dominate. As for why...I don't know, maybe it's due to men's having harder technical repertoire, pairs teams needing more time to gel together, so the veteran members tend to handle things better.

I think it's because in men and pairs, PCS are given more fairly, while in ladies, the skater with the biggest federation and the hardest technical content gets the highest PCS. But even that is about to change in men and pairs (see T/M and Nathan).

I wouldn't really say it's because PCS are given more fairly. I would argue that for ladies, due to many ladies having the same technical content, you are forced as a ladies single skater to be more developed artistically and be more consistent at a faster rate than men's. Other than the fact men's in general have a harder technical repertoire and would take longer to get artistry and technicals blended well. For pairs and ice dance, it takes longer to be recognized perhaps?

As for T/M and Nathan...we'll see. Nathan hasn't competed against the "artistes" such as Chan and Javi, who also have quad jumps, nevermind he usually loses to Yuzu and Shoma too. I think in both cases, it's an issue of Fed power, otherwise we should see the bump in other people, like Boyang's scores, or even Vincent Zhou's scores too.

hmm, but if Satoko was skating in men's, she would be getting Shoma PCS at least, while in ladies her PCS are around Bradie's. If Evgenia were in men's, her consistency wouldn't give her such a huge bump in PCS.. or at least, I think so...

I so agree on the fed's power ...
