Looks like #FrenchEventPlanning is speading around the world

can we exchange the injuries for plastic stars please?

Guys, I just remember that during men's FS, Denis Alkhazov, Russian commentator who works with Julia, said that the fact US judges "helped" their athlete (he was speaking about Adam) was "understandable" and Russian judges would do the same for example for Samarin (poor guy, why he used his name, it's unfair) in crucial situation. I was too sleepy yesterday to pay attention. But now it pooped to my memory and I feel angry and ashamed. Unfair judging as such is harmful for sport, but when people, and especially commentators, who are heard by thousands, say it's normal, it brings much more damage.

At this point I think we can start to make bets when figure skating stops being an olympic sport.

Better to a degree that commentators speak up and acknowledge it. At least if it's known, hopefully at some point someone will step in and say enough is enough and figure out some way to enforce a degree of impartiality to judging.  The real damage though is actually to the athletes- because now, short of maybe a small handful of skaters, their scores will always be looked upon as "did a judge help you or not?"

But if the idea of "national help" becomes normal, this great person saying "stop, enough" could not appear at all. Or get no support.

Of course, athletes suffer the most. :slinkaway:

yes, indeed.

Why should it be acceptable that a skater gets unfair scores just because, hey, it's a crucial situation for him/his fed and he just happened to be so lucky that he had a compatriot in the panel?

Then what about skaters who are in a "crucial situation" but have no judge on their side? Ahh, such a though luck, too bad for them

And the point of skating in competition shouldn't be being awarded for what skaters actually do on the day? If not, then no point in competing and risk ghastly accidents and bad injuries. They could just all line up with big smiles and wait, while the judges decide among themselves who's "crucial situation" matters the most and make him win.:ohno:

That kind of  reasoning isn't acceptable. Yes, it's true that it happens and feds or even blocks of feds use their scoring as weapons to prop their faves. It is a reality. It's only "human" for judges to be biased, but their job is to leave that bias at home or at the very least to score without thinking about what their feds want. They owe fair judging to the skaters, who literally put their bodies and careers on the line, to the viewers and to the sport itself, if not to their work ethic.

imo it's because people talk about that with leniency, or even feel like justifying it, that such an unethical behaviour it's still so common, to the point it's even expected (and we are all surprised when it doesn't happen!):scowl:

I'd put my money on when (hopefully never:hopelessness:) ISU will go down that questionable path of doing separate competitions for "tech" and "artistry". The artistic comp will be kicked out of Winter Olys, and the tech comps will be so dull their precious audience ratings will drop, so good luck with that, ISU:biggrin:
