[2017] GP NHK Trophy - Ladies SP & FS

I thought she was a little shaky with the landing of her 2A? I’m not hating on the girl but I really don’t see what it is about this particular performance that warrants the WR PCS?

Open to hearing views from her fans honestly, I’m genuinely curious. Did she do better transitions?

Great composition and interpretation, very good SS, very strong transitions.

And you probably forgot to mention that she didn't receive +3 on 2a... so why nitpicking???

My mood is kinda down so I'm not quite there yet mentally to look at protocols... /LOL/

I asked this before protocols were out but I would think a shaky landing would somewhat affect her performance PCS or something (clearly not, to the judge who gave her 10). I'm really not trying to nitpick, just genuinely asking.  I'm asking how this particular performance differed from the others? I know she has strong transitions, I thought she was a bit more nuanced with her facial expressions today. I thought she was on par with how she delivered the last few performances of this program. Was there anything in particular about her SS/IN that caught your attention as particularly improved from her last?

I wasnt there at the arena but the judges seem to see some improval. I already saw at COR that her speed improved very much and here she seemed even more into the spirit of music. It's her best SP in terms of composition and choreo.

She got less than 1 point better than Carolina and Carolina wasn't clean so I don't see any problem here....

Cool, thanks for explaining. I'll have to watch her programs more carefully for those - speed isn't really easy to discern over video. Has the choreo changed?

Now that I've seen the rest of the comp, I hate to say this, but no, the 2 spots of JP ladies belong to Wakaba and Mai. Sorry, Satoko. You are lovely, and artistically mesmerising on ice, but those jumps

Of course, we still have to see how all three of these girls tackle the rest of the season, but at the moment, it's Wakaba and Mai for me.

@kaerb about Zhenya and PCS - actually something of the type that happened on her 2A does not affect the PCS. What affects it is a fall or a major mistake, neither one was the problem here. Overall, she's actually improved even further I would say in speed and flow. Especially flow, I noticed this in the Anna K program first in the stsq but it's being reflected here as well. Her SS are quite good, I don't think people give her enough credit, and there're the transitions which IMO are better incorporated than say Alina's. She also really musical and that helps and here, for me, the interpretation of this particular program was better than in the previous comps, at Nepela and CoR. She projects really well, I am told she's pretty commanding in the arena. Also I live with her PCS, comparatively speaking, when I look at everything surrounding her (all top ladies are boosted, and of course, this system so to call it breaks with ladies who are trying to break into the top but have little to no push by their federations/small feds/etc).

Also I want to know about those tapes. That makes me shiver in a bad way.

In re to Satoko I think @yuzuangel asked about it when we discussed Wakaba and we have our answer. Well yes, actually, JSF has gone to town for her. Ah well.

Seriously, the prerotation on her jumps is something to see. And while I find it highly hypocritical of BESP commentators to now suddenly remember this exists, it really is impossible to avoid. And of course her URs ... and come on JSF. She's a wonderful skater but you have two amazing ladies that need help and are better bets right now.

Polina, Polina. Should have been higher but in her first Senior comp, and of course, first Senior Grand Prix, I'll take the just over 70. She can build on that, in just a few hours actually. Consistency, rotate, and it'll be enough because she's such an impressive skater.

Also Jesus wept Japanese camera-person but how much sake did you have if you thought that was a proper angle for Polina's combo?

ITA. Satoko is a lovely skater, but seeing those tiny jumps again.. and remembering those from Wakaba and Mai.... there's just no comparison and jumps are such a huge part of this sport. I remember reading she'd gained height and muscle mass so I was hoping for bigger jumps but there's no difference. I understand she's coming back from injury, and she's done well to get back to this stage, but I don't see how this will hold up against other competitors... I still fear JSF might prefer her to go to Olys, though, because of PCS...

So glad to see Polina do so well! Russian Nats will be something to see....

To answer my own question, Zhenya has ankle ligaments problems, and had not trained a lot prior to CoR. Seems like it's persisting, as she was limping to interview today. I'd say her right leg is worse but overall it looks like she is having issues. Wishing her all the best, and major props for performing today, but what even is this season :13877886:

:slinkaway: I was afraid to even search for any information when I noticed those tapes. I know that noone including herself will give her time to rest and recover now.

Zhenya, please stay healthy! I'm already praying for Yuzuru so hard.
