[2017] CS US Internat. FS Classic (13-17.09)

Congrats to all medalists, especially Marin. She seem tired at the 2nd half, and some of the jumps looked tight. Very well deserved win. I still don't like this LP, actually none of program here is my fave. I surprise they gave UR/edge calls everywhere, and mostly to US ladies ( yeah Mirai's 3A was < too, but she got UR on almost every jumps) Thats the right thing to do.

The scores here almost seem...sane?! I'm amused especially since you have the opposite going on in Italy. Mirai's 3A, despite the no-call, the judges did give a lot of neg GOEs, which lowered the BV, so it does balance out a bit. If she had pos GOE and no call, that would have been a different issue.

How cute :10636614::10636614:

I feel bad that here we are getting mostly an ideal scoring and tech call and my first thought was 'wow! good on them' immediately followed by 'what is USFS up to...?' :text-line-smiley-036:

Its like fresh water compare to Lombardia. Mirai got 6 UR calls, and I think her 3S is ok, that call seems a bit harsh. Actually both Marin 3T look UR to me or at least borderline, especially in that 2A3T. But the placement is correct. Even with Kaori in 4th and Mariah 5th. Maybe its a sign that score in Lombardia won't carry on other events.

It's almost like a game within a game....send the harsher judges to the US event to cull in the scores a bit so the US skater scores won't get inflated beyond recognition, meanwhile where there are less US skaters in Lombardia, send in the generous (*drunk*) judges to let the scores float up... oh wait, it's ISU we're talking about, that's a bit too smart...

Maybe its has something with the ticket's price too :laughing: Since you had to pay 220$ for Lombardia, the judges decided to throw PB all over place to keep up with it :laughing:. Its interesting to see how its goes when we have ACI and Nepela at the same time next week. Early prediction : Score in Nepela will higher than ACI. :biggrin:

Changing the discussion toward the Men field for a moment, is anyone else surprised that Nathan only did 2 quads in his free program? He has a Quad Loop now and it looks good! I like his SP this season and I think his LP has promise. I hope when he adds more quads it doesn't devolve into jump-a-thon like last year.

Hmm... not really. It was discussed in the general skating chat re: strategy. The general thoughts are he starts of with less quads but better choreography + transitions to build up his PCS score and as the season progresses he can add more quads and even though the program will have more empty spaces and less transitions because of it, it won't decrease his PCS score  plus the added PCS boost of jumping quads as well.

Also, technically he planned (not in the planned sheet, just what he himself probably planned to do for US Classic) 3 quads, but he popped his 4T to a 2T.

Congrats Marin for winning US Classic on your first international senior competition! Love her dress, though I think in closeup the gold embroidery on the front of her dress becomes a bit too yellow and too much but that back..... :13877886:

Congrats Mirai on the 3A. I think this one was better than the one in the SP. But then she goes and URs so many jumps...

Karen, good job. We know she can do better so we'll see how it goes. And her dress was spectacular!

Also, did they get Shin Amano for the tech panel? So. Many. Carrots.

This is what should have happened at Lombardia, actually. Heck, in Wakaba's latest interview she herself considered her -3T on her second combo short where the panel didn't. The skater having more discernment in their own feedback to their own performances than a tech panel is telling.
