It's not really that far though, I mean Austria's a pretty small country

Salzburg is not big, with a population of 150k, but not as small as Celje for example (less than 50k), which hosts Slovenia Open every year.

Salzburg is far away from big airports,or other bigger cities etc, it's not easy to get there. And as @Sombreuil said, it's mid-week, most people can't go because of work. If it was in Vienna, on Friday-Saturday, then I would have gone to this junior competition too....
