There's going to be loads of those - it's Latina. Never subdued or understated, you know - it has to be gaudy and colourful.

Yep, it's compulsory. all the dancers this season do their SD to Latin music.

Yep! Short dance has a compulsory rhythm each season. For this season it's Latin American dances (including Rhumba, Samba, Mambo, ChaCha, Meringue, Salsa, and Bachata). Senior level teams are required to skate the Rhumba pattern while the required pattern for Junior teams is the ChaCha Congelado.

I suppose if you're young enough you might like dayglo pink, magenta purple and gold, and green/blue/ yellow rags.

Ice dancers usually wear more conservative costumes than the pairs, ladies wear longer skirts etc. The rule book says: "the clothing of the competitors must be modest, dignified and appropriate for athletic competition – not garish or theatrical in design. Clothing may, however, reflect the character of the music chosen. The clothing must not give the effect of excessive nudity inappropriate for the discipline."

But this was added last year:  "For Ice Dance, exceptions to the restrictions may be announced by the IDTC if appropriate to the Rhythms selected for the Short Dance."

 

I guess we'll see a lot of these less conservative ice dance costumes this season
