me too!  preferably with camera angles that SHOW yuzu doing his cartwheel and nyaan jump and all his awesomeness!  :kitty:

SOME KIND SOUL PLEASE SAVE THIS BROADCAST PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :snonegai:

:snonegai::snonegai::snonegai:

Hmm I rewatched Requiem video.

ABC actually used videos of the two different shows! Because in BS Asahi video Yuzu falls on 3S (he fell at Day 1) and ABC video features clean 3S from Day 3 (at Day 2 Yuzu doubled sal)

Yep, which is kind of why I'd have even sacrificed to the fickle screen Gods some Yuzu screentime if it was the tradeoff required for actually getting properly good camera angles and editing done. Because my issue with the short-changing of some skaters wasn't that Yuzu took too much screentime (please, needs moar neko!Yuzu being extra) but that the screentime others had was so poorly done sometimes it made it all the worse. I mean, couldn't they have framed poor Mai when she was next to Yuzu a bit better instead of just seeing half of her? Or, you know, not focused on a singer when a skater was about to do something interesting?

Not really and I still don't see the logic?

Surely the solution is to fix the actual broadcast so that after the headliner gets their time, you do see the skater when he or she is doing something interesting instead of the singer? Because simply put, even if you took away more time from Yuzuru, which you cannot actually do, there is no guarantee it would have gone to Mai because - it was a bad broadcast. There is no 'tradeoff required for proper angles and editing', that doesn't exist. This is a requirement of the job and it is not in any way related to Yuzuru's screentime and it was not fulfilled this time, and it would not have been fulfilled if there had been no Yuzuru at all because he doesn't really center in that, in any way.

Let me be blunt in general - this is not a democracy. All skaters get their time with their programs, and they actually did. Nobody shortchanged Mai there, or others. But Yuzuru Hanyu is a headliner for a reason. I mean you may not care, but that's just how it is. He brings in the money. The headliner is the focal point and carries the show, which he does. And to be blunt - that's what people want. He wouldn't be there if he couldn't put people in the seats, both in the arena and in front of their televisions. With it, come rights and responsibilities, and he fulfills them magnificently and it's actually pretty easy to see why it's not so simple to just tack on the 'headliner' to someone from some of the shots we had. This reminds me of WTT, and some of the complaints there, where it was pretty easy to see who the star was and why. To the star, go the spoils.

So, in this business, and it is a business, there is simply a certain order of things. They should have had a better director and a better editor so that we still had a good distribution of shots, that were fully utilized with good camera work, when it came to everyone, Yuzuru included, and that would have solved all the problems.

Another thing, and I know some thought Marin got too much time - it's possible she didn't. Because we're back to business decisions and no matter how it may sit with some, she maybe 'sells' better (this is something the people in charge would know) so even though she's not even in Seniors yet, she got to be with Anna, while Mai got pushed back. Business is definitely not pretty sometimes but demand rules.

Okay, then, at least the people in the arena got to see everyone anyway.

lbr if i was the organizer/sponsor for this event i will MAKE SURE they had a camera on everyone and then a separate camera just on yuzu and then edit the final video to show the best bits of both

when the headliner and the star who brings the most audience (cash) is doing something awesome (the money shots!), i will make sure to show that in the broadcast because THAT'S WHAT MOST PEOPLE WANT TO SEE

judging from the complaints the broadcast station got after the show aired, we are definitely not alone in this

it's just stupid when they show shitty camera angles instead of good stuff like the skaters performing, doing awesome jumps, incredible moves, etc. WHY AREN'T THEY SHOWN??!  WHAT A GODDAMN WASTE!!!

I don't know if this is possible but if I were the organisers, I would have a personal camera for some skaters/or all of the skaters and the individual recordings would be sold separately. It brings money and it give the fans what they want. :8227023: The fans would surely pay for it.

Though this method probably doesn't even make sense..... just my random imagination... :68811363:

I wonder if they could recoup the costs from the amount of cameras/filming/editing needed.

Well then I guess we better expect that the recordings are going to be super expensive :headdesk:

I hope they show us that Yuzu fanboy moment!!!

Well, on the positive side, at least they aired almost the entire show. Come on, it could be worse  (like Niigata show this week )

Are the camera people present during rehearsals? That would've given them a good idea of what individual skaters were going to be doing during performances. And I'm not just talking group performances... those solo performances had horrid shots as well.

Also, while I do appreciate the live artists, there really was no need to focus on them so much. But, If they really had to, maybe they could've just had a small screen on the top or bottom side that focused on just the singers.

I would've thought Japan would have filming FS performances down to pat... but apparently not. /sigh/

Ugh. It's been a day and I'm still not over the camera work. Good to know I'm not alone in this.

And apparently this thread continues to be the great thread of frustration :8122879:  (but at least we got some random spikes of euphoria :67638860: )

Funny thing is, since it wasn't transmitted live, I wouldn't think they'd need to edit everything like a live event. So I'd assume the editing room would have a couple of days to actually choose the proper footage from the various cameras to edit the show into a coherent final product. Apparently not...
