He reaches a point where he's offered a choice. Up til this point, the subtitles for the two halves of the show are very similar. Then, he's offered a choice in the game: to consume the life of small creature in order to 'power up' and get to the next level. In the first half of the show, he chooses 'yes', consumes the creature, and the rest of the show til intermission depicts what happens along that path - is he a monster? Or merely a player trying to get ahead? And when he gets to the final challenge, can he succeed? In the second half, he chooses not to consume the life, saying he wants to protect all living things. The 'game' immediately plunges him into an oblivion so deep that he/his character calls out to God (he uses the word 'Kami-sama'... not sure if it has the same connotations as the Christian use of the word 'God'). From that point on, the dialogue is exploring questions re the meaning of existence. And by the time he got to HYK, I had lost track of the subtitles, sorry...😓 Anyway, that's a very rough gist.
