Billboard did nominate JK in a non-Kpop category, but of course it's a category based purely on stats.  JK won for "Song of the Summer" at MTV awards 2023. We all know that MTV awards are a farce but hopefully it's a tiny baby step in the right direction. However, I think the awards are more and more about backstage deals and politics so as long as Hybe is unwilling to play ball, I think they'll be relegated to Kpop categories - I think it's their way of trying to placate the fans while still leaving room for deals in the important categories.

 

 

Speaking of year-end accolades:  I never did understand how the "top artist" ranking works. I know it's some combination of the stats from sales and streams but beyond that, it's a mystery

 

Note: none of these are awards, just stats.  Stating the facts.  "World Music awards" - WTF? JK is NOT a K-Pop act.  He's a soloist.  A male soloist, and was singing in English.  I think you're right that the western artists are intimidated and very self-centered about this stuff.  Very protective of American "supremacy" without acknowledging that it's a global market.  And many western artists are seeking out Korean (and other) acts for collaborations, and it just boosts their own popularity.

When I saw @Faithyu's request, my first thought was, "pretty sure only @rockstaryuzu can answer this one". I saw references to "Jump" but I didn't understand what the posts were about. 

 

 

If anyone is trying to decide on their streaming playlists, a lot of X Army are trying to get a billion plaque for the HL. There's a lot of debate over the songs. Judging by pace & numbers, I think the correct choices are

"Hageum" for Suga (this one is pretty much universally agreed upon)

"Running Wild" for Jin (a lot of people want The Astronaut, but Running Wild is a currently charting song, eligible for awards, and is outpacing The Astronaut.)

 

"More" for Hobi (some want Neuron but More has 3 versions and currently has more streams - don't have enough data for the pace yet)

 

"WildFlower" for RM (but "Lost" is currently on pace to get there 1st. However, that might just be recency bias)  ETA: I switched to Lost. An RM account said that's the one we should be pushing but there's still debate in the fandom. Honestly, I don't think either will get there but going to give it the ol college try

 

 

I made a Google Drive calculating the completion time based on the daily streams. I mostly want to verify the correct streaming choice but some of it is just for fun. The Wendy stans have been so sweet - they'd be elated if she managed to get a plaque, even if it takes 7 years to get there.

I just saw the word jump and my brain completed the song.

Started to watch the red bullet tour, but that's not the performance that was stuck in my head. It this one with Tae's iconic line at exactly 1min.

I'm so late to everything that is coming out. This new job, while helping me with my mental health so far, makes me so tired at the end of the day that i end up going to sleep by 9:30pm  There is always something that needs to be done.

 

One a positive note, I just found and confirmed a pet/house sitter for my buns for when we go to Korea in June and it's such a massive relief that I know I'm going to have a very good sleep for the remaining months. Added bonus, is that they're both retired vets.

I always want to take allegations of plagiarism very mildly, especially when it comes to the boys because I'm biased but the flow and chord progression is indeed very similar if not the same except for some omitted beats that make it less punchy (SKZ's version I mean). 

 

 

 

SKZ's version is a softened and toned down version, but the beats are the same.  It is so nearly the same, I'd call it plagiarized.  But since Jump is 10 years old, it's possible someone had it in their head because they'd heard it a lot years ago and then thought their idea was original.

 

New job, @Whoopiewoop? Did the EU kill your great baby business?  I about have my sitter for next June, but am having to guess my Jeju dates because Goguma's dad can't get a firm "two week camp" date from his school, but since I want to be in Seoul on the 11th or so,I guess I'll just pick my Jeju dates....Getting a dog sitter for Tucson in June is tricky - it's in the 100's and brutal,

The online business doesn't give me any earnings at this point. Way too new. It will probably take a couple of years before I can actually make a living out of it. Especially now that I don't have as much time as I did working from home to be on social media. In the meantime I had no choice but to find another job. But I've given up on office work and anything related to sitting at a desk (unless I make my handcrafting). I'm now a self-employed delivery driver for Amazon making use of my Spotify playlist like never before while I drive in my mini van provided by the company

I choose when to work which is what I needed, and that means if I want to take a month off I can and no one can tell me anything. As long as I have the funds to cover my expenses during my time off then that's enough. And I get to see the beauty of North Yorkshire. Just the other day I was in the moors in the middle of nowhere delivering a parcel to a farmer. Lots of sheeps and pheasants which I'm convinced have a death wish. I've never seen more stupid birds than those...  I also delivered something to a place that looked like a mansion out of Downton Abbey. Ironically British, the woman opening the door looked like she had just come back from hunting pheasants with her hounds. Found it quite amusing.

I honestly don't get why it's been getting the shaft on all the year end lists - the lyrics might not be the most meaningful, but it's well mixed and produced and it's not like Taylor, etc. write anything particularly deep

Did you find them through a platform? I have searched for a bunny sitter as well, but haven't found anyone so far and only platforms for dogs and cats.

So, if they are good (meaning, you have a good experience with them), maybe ask if they are interested in a short trip to germany some day😉.

I saw a snippet that they state they got inspired by old school hip hop like epic high *add song name i forgott" and bts jump and someone else.

It was written, like a part of an album interview, but I can't find it again😬.....

This sounds like a great job for someone young and adventurous. I wish I thought to do something like this when I was young but, back then, I was too poor and cowardly to try new things.

Re:pet sitting @Faithyu   I belong to an international group called Trusted Housesitters.  It's any and all kinds of animals -even horses, chickens, etc..   If you use this code, you'll get 25% off an annual membership.  Or two months free, or something like that. There are two (actually three) levels.  You can join as just someone seeking sitters or, like me, seeking sitters and places to go stay/sit.  I clearly don't use that back half much since I hooked up with my Korean place (through TH).  i know that I wouldn't be able to afford to go away for 5 days and pay a dog sitter for less than an annual membership costs me, and I have people at my house right now (for a total of four weeks this trip - I've used sitters for a total of at least three months, if you add up my trips, this year alone.  Wow to the savings - and the house is looked after.  You get to vet the sitters (and they are already background checked).  DM me if you'd like more info.  Obviously I highly recommend the service.)
