I didn't know Yuzu was interested in Bioethics until I read this interview in 2018. (The original post is in Chinese so I use Google translate.)

Q: During the interview in Toronto, you said that the subject you are interested in is anatomy. Are there any other subjects you are interested in?

A: Bioethics. <*Note: Bioethics, a field of study concerned with the ethics and philosophical implications of certain biological and medical procedures, technologies, and treatments, as organ transplants, genetic engineering, and care of the terminally ill. Definition from Dictionary.com>

Q: It sounds like a very deep topic (laughs).

A: Actually, when I was skating Hope and Legacy, I thought it would be impossible to not consider this aspect, so I took this course. Hope, legacy, life. I felt that it was necessary to learn how to think about and express things that are invisible to the eye. I feel very much like my own way of thinking about this choice. Although I didn't want to be a philosopher at all (laughs), I wanted to be someone who could think about these things.

I'm always amazed by how insightful and smart is Yuzu. It's not common in the sports world nowadays.

It's part of his charisma, I think.

Ah YES Yuzu is a whole : accomplished and distinguished high-level athlete / educated and VERY intelligent, because he studied online from Toronto Waseda University in human information and cognitive sciences and produced a final thesis study in August 2020 which included a program on 3D motion capture technology (well I know there is a link and I saw it and I can't find it : sorry  :unsure2: and surely a fanyu will find it) and who can help in the judgment of skating and that he has been interested in this area since 2018 (I am discovering it too) does not surprise me and it seems to me? having read when he was injured that he researched muscles/tendons etc... and for that  :headdesk:well deserved

[NEWS]

[ brain dump incoming]

It's hard to tell because there are various interviews and also he was still understandably feeling raw about the FS at the time of the interview, but it does feel like he's given up on the 4A. I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing by the way, what is good for him is good for us, and as we've said so many times his physical & mental health is what matters the most to us all, so whatever he does regarding the 4A in the future, so long as he's feeling good about, I certainly will too.

In a way I also hate that he basically says if the efforts are not rewarded then it was pointless - but I'm EXACTLY the same as him in my own life and although I try to work on it it's certainly not a mindset that is easy to change overnight. I think maybe as we grow older we realise a lot of things were good for the lessons/experiences they taught us, but it's hard to see this shortly after a failure - and I mean failure by Yuzu's standards, not ours. He is our miracle boy no matter what, he's achieved that status and there's no way back I'm afraid ! :)

I do feel bad when he emphasises how hard it's been to train for the 4A and how he knows people say "if he had gone a bit higher, done this, done that, he would have landed it, he's so close". This is what most of us here have done, I'm one of those and definitely guilty of getting very enthusiastic about it as well, and saying how I believe he can do it, but maybe this is more hurtful than helpful, I don't know. I'm not accusing anyone by the way, I'm really just pondering on my own behaviour following the "almost landed a clean 4A" event.

Thank you very much for pointing this out. Yuzuru has said about 4A and I quote ' if it was easy I had already done it' and also he has said that he couldn't have come to Beijing in any better form and that he gave everything he had, which I totally believe. He couldn't have done anything more.  I think it is not fair to ask him to continue with 4A if he already has found a peace with it,  as it was in his free program in Beijing.

I actually think it was perfect 4A, it fit to the story and there was something poetic beautiful in the whole fight itself, so Yuzuru. I have never seen anyone so courageous and unyielding than him, and the way he handled his own dissapointment afterwards, that deserves HUGE RESPECT. To me that is even more impressive than if he had landed his 4A "text book perfectly".  I am sure he will find his reward eventually. I know I am fully rewarded every single time he steps on ice <3

I haven't been around the forum for a while because life got the best of me, but Yuzu has been a constant shining light. I saw his thoughts about the quad Axel and I can understand his frustrations. Of course results are going to matter to him; that is the entire point of a competition. But I hope that eventually he can see failures as a part of being human too and that it doesn't mean what he was doing is meaningless. I probably mean nothing to him, as a random fan on the internet, but having relied on his strength for so long, I hope that even if he feels  defeated, he can take still some hope and strength from us too. 羽生 結弦, You and your efforts are always meaningfulFor All Time. Always.

You are absolutely right. I can't stop watching his 4A from Beijing, but also the peace and strength he had throughout the performance.

I am also shocked by how authentic he is - sharing his feelings, his tears. You almost forget how false and fake the world can be sometimes until you see him showing his emotions that you immediately know are true in every sense.

Speaking from my point of view, that 4A in Beijing was a very nice attempt and I dare to say boldly “very close”. He kept his axis till the end, in that huge jump. That’s super difficult, I still don’t know how he did it and amazingly, he had a good posture in the landing too. The quality of that 4A was crazy, so I don’t feel bad by saying he is close to it, more than ever. Watching his journey for 4A is inspiring, just compare his attempts in GPF19, WTT21 to Jnats and Beijing. The improvement is unbelievable. I don’t think even the most positive fanyu believed in 2019 that he will get this close to tame 4A in 2022. But if he feels its enough, I understand very well, afterall every fall from 4A = hitting a school bus according to Ghislain. But if he later decides to continue this challenge with less pressure, in a better supported place, I will cheer on him too. It’s upto him. He knows his body and he is the only one who knows how much close he is, not anyone else.

Btw, nothing was in vain. 4A improved all his other jumps drastically. It’s like he has just unlocked the territory of landing the most huge gorgeous jumps ever.

I know that the video “Yuzuru Hanyu practicing to Muse” has been posted and referred to numerous times, but since I had not watched it for a long time, I decided to today. It never gets old. It is so mesmerizing, calming and beautiful. Yuzu's practices are worth more than the price of admission. I am sure that people will not object if I post it here and there may even be some new fans who have never seen it before.
