"But Yuzuru Hanyu is clearly becoming a better skater. I'm absolutely sure i am."

What a beautifully self-assured quote

It's not even like, just self-affirmation though. It's clearly true. He skated a pristine 4 quad program at nats, this time with a clean(ish) short, and he honestly looks stronger than at any point in the past. This competition was unfortunate, but I really don't think there's anything he could do back in 2014-2018 that he can't do now, and there is at least one thing that he is very close to being able to do now that he wasn't back then (hi 4A). It's not like he never had a disaster worlds back then either. It's only a shame that his injuries interrupted his training so much, which meant he couldn't make as much progress the past few seasons as I'm sure he would have liked, and then this awful asthma attack had to happen--but if that's why he had a bad FS, then it's a just a bad day, not because his condition is declining.

His gala performance was breathtaking.

His words about being at his best ring absolutely true and I’m happy to read that he knows it with confidence. His art is beautiful and still somehow ever-evolving, and regardless of medals, it will never go away.

Excited to one day witness the official landing of the 4A! ☺️

I think what's also impressive is not just the fact that he would still be able to do his old programs at 26 years old, it's also that I don't think his old self could do the programs he's doing now with such ease. Something about his skating just looks a lot more effortless than before. He's gotten a lot stronger.

And yeah, for as much as he's accomplished, he's also had to endure so many injuries and illnesses along the way, being injured nearly every season since 2014. It would've been crazy to see how much more he would've accomplished without them (he'd probably have a stable 4Lz and do 5 quad programs lol), but knowing Yuzu, he'd just say that the challenges are what made him stronger.

I'd just like to point out how insanely impressive it is that Yuzu did as well as he did yesterday. Yuzu was one of the oldest men's skaters there with one of the longest careers, has had multiple major injuries, spent the past year-ish coaching himself, performed an insanely complex and difficult program with multiple ultra-c elements, and finished 4th in the long program and 3rd overall while on the verges of an asthma attack. That's insane!! Any one of those would be impressive, but what other skater could do all of that while also having trouble breathing!

Sure, Yuzu didn't win yesterday. But my god that doesn't make him any less impressive.

Hanyu needs to chill out and do some yoga. He is too hard on himself and since Japanese Nationals last year, he seems to doubt himself. It’s almost as if he’s trying too hard and he needs to realize he has all the skills and talent he needs to continue to be the champ. He used to own the ice and he has to regain that mentally. He owns the ice! I would have snever got into figure skating as a fan if I didn’t see him perform at the Olympics. Hanyu, you are the man and you have what it takes and will continue be the King of Ice.

Ok. I am about to go to sleep peeps. Thanks for sharing my first ever live Yuzu experience with me. It has been 42 days of absolute bliss, learning that Yuzu exists and catching up on 10 years Of his brilliance. it is now time to go back to living my normal life. No more spending every waking hour stuck inside FanyuLand.

in the time I have known of Yuzu’s existence;

  • I have become a hermit, not speaking to family and friends
  •  I have gained motivation from Yuzu to give up smoking. Every time I want a smoke I think to myself; if Yuzu can mentally strengthen himself to do all that he does then surely it will not be hard for me to do this one simple thing
  • I have decided to learn Japanese so I can go to Japan one day and immerse myself in the experience
  • I started reading today about Japanese culture and have found it very interesting, I am going to study more of it in future
  • i learnt of the existence of our translators and am for ever greatful that you all volunteer your time. Without you I would understand nothing.
  • I have started to think about how to change the way I interact with people to make more pleasant experiences, I want to be a fun person like Yuzu and Nobu
  • i learnt how to use Tumbler, google translate, Twitter, Instagram, chrome translator, video download era and Planet Hanyu
  •  I have felt part of a new family in this Planet
  • I participated in Pooh-rain and it felt so good
  • I have a new love of my life and I will follow Yuzu always

Yuzu has changed me for the better. I hope you all have good fortune and work hard.

This is goodbye for now... unless Yuzu plays in WTT - THEN I WILL BE BACK.

See you at the Olympics :) stay safe

That's amazing stuff! Your post would fit right in over here:

If you'd like to, please feel free to add your story there!

So does Yuzu (and the rest of Team Japan) have to quarantine when they get back to Japan? If so, WTT is out of the question for them, no? It'll have to be a whole different team.

I'm pretty sure Yuzu mentioned in some interview in the past few days that he plans to quarantine. Not sure which interview though or if he mentioned how long he'd be in quarantine.

The rules appear to be a 2 weeks / 14 days quarantine. So with it being 2.5weeks away, they could make it by a few days... but the question is probably more, do they — does Yuzuru — want to go? That’s another state of affair

This was beautifully put, and i completely agree!

It's like his new UA says; "Get even stronger!"

And he has, and he will :tumblr_inline_n2pje2TPZt1qdlkyg:

Unrelated to previous conversations, but wasn't Yuzu's step sequence for LMEY downgraded to a 3? Has anyone figured out why yet?

I think I read somewhere that he missed a bracket (in his steps)? And that was supposedly quite clear.

I don't know if that's really the case, since I hardly know anything about step sequences, so I wouldn't be able to see it. :dontknow:

I wonder if he means that he is 1/8 from being fully rotated or if he's currently a quarter short and 1/8 more he would get full credit for the jump.

Considering Yuzu's quality standards, I think he probably means fully rotated. I suppose it would also make more sense to get it to a point where he can reliably fully rotate it. This way, the risk of possible underrotations in a competition is lower.
