General Yuzuru Chat

@gladi 's translation is such a good read  :goe:

Now that the other skaters are running around trying to upgrade their tech with the speed of Apollo 11 leaving the earth, I am really glad if Yuzu could bring the splat fest trend to its final season :snonegai:

If Yuzu could have Medvedeva's consistency next season, I think my bank account would stop suffering lol My alcohol expenses during the season is unbelievable  You will really be the light of my life through my bank account Yuzu

<3 " I want to play "the Ballade of Chopin"  <3

[An article(2016) from "Minna no Hiroba(An open space

for everyone)", "Manabi-ba(Where to learn)", Chunichi

Newspapers, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture ]

..............................................................................

Written by Minami Futamura, Grade 5 of Jin-Ryo

Elementary School, Kasugai City's, Aichi Pref.

**************************************************************

I've been learning to play the piano since I was 3

years old. Many friends of mine quit the lessons

when they turned grade 5. However, in my case,

I intended to keep going. The reason was just that

there's a piece of music that I would like to play.

That's "the Ballade of Chopin".

When I told my piano teacher about that, she

responsed by saying that it's too difficult for me

by now and insisted that I had better play many

more of other music before that.

The reason why I wanted to play this music was

when I watched the performance of Yuzuru Hanyu

to the music, I felt it was just splendid.

The strength of the piano's sound along with the

softness of the melody....I found myself so much

fascinated by his performance and the piano.

So powerful and really cool.

I would love to play this kind of cool music. To be

able to do so, from now on I'll have to do my best.

***************************************************************

Remarks: The drawing on the left-handed side at the

bottom has nothing to do with this article.

Kind of an exhibition space of a drawing.

:7562096: Isn't it a good proof to show that even 2017GPF

is going to be held in Nagoya in favor of S.Uno,

there are a lot of fans of Yuzu there, too ?

Yes, here, there and everywhere. .....

:7562096: As far as I recall, there's a blog saying things

like this (as her fixed banner on the first page):

I was born and brought up in Nagoya where

without notice/expectation, in my daily life there

were as usual a flood of news/TV programs about

M.Asada (and now S.Uno!?)....BUT it was Yuzu who

urged me to spend money to buy a ticket to go to

see an ice show for the first time in my life ! .....

It reads like the Ice Jewels interview was conducted in at least two separate parts, once after WC and once after WTT, as there is some drift in his opinions. I'm aware of a separate translation out there, but I wanted to capture more of the nuance and some sentences that seemed to have been skipped. This is heavy on translators' notes for context, so pick your poison :)

Thank you so much for your translation!

I will take time to read and observe his way of thinking and analysis. :D

On his choice of programs:

To be honest, I do not care if he repeats both Chopin and Seimei. He wants that second OGM more than anyone of us here so I think everything he decided to do is the best for him. I would not blame him if he wanted Med's consistency since I personally think judges make it quite clear this season that skating clean is almost everything; empty/less complex programs are enormously rewarded if skaters hit all elements. It can't be helped if he feels that he needs to skate with confidence. He has no choice but plays the game.

I´d like to hear your thoughts about what Yuzu needs to be consistent next season. He will be well-trained and so in top shape of course. In Ice Jewel he talked about Medvedeva´s consistency and said he has a lot to learn from her on the mental side. What is the secret for her being so consistent in each competition?

I remember her saying once that she does not think so much, she just skates. Yuzu said the same thing in Helsinki right after the FS was over. He said he forgot everything and " I just worked with the music". I have been wondering how on earth he got the mood for the clean H&L after 5th position in SP.

Ice jewel gave some answers: " ... the strong urge to stand up to challenge came to the forefront. Above all, it was because this competition happened precisely as my second half 4S had begun to stabilize. Especially with confidence in the second half 4S, I could focus on each aspect, listening properly to the sound of the music… and if I can try my best that way, I was thinking I could go clean. So first of all, I landed the beginning 4Lo and 4S, and then I focused on riding the momentum."

About SP at WTT he said that he had a strong feeling that he has to go clean and felt a lot of pressure.

Seems like Medvedeva does not let anything to disturb her concentration. I was very surprised in Helsinki that she could make a clean FS right after Pogorilaja´s unlucky skate.

Oh sorry, I’m keeping a promise I gave such a long time ago to translate what Mishin and Gachinsky said about Yuzu around the time of 2017 World Championship. I apologise it took me so long.

Mishin: So after the short program he put out an expert opinion that Yuzuru Hanyu was like a panther who has never been to a ballet class and who has no idea what battement tandu or port de bras are (unlike Javier Fernandez who seems to be a classical ballet dancer). https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/3259927

After Yuzu’s phenomenal free skate, Mishin said that Yuzuru skated like never before in his life. “I have such a concept ‘zakidonshik’ (don’t ask me what that that means – there’s no such word in Russian dictionaries, but it does have to do with “закидать/закинуть” – throw) which first appeared in my vocabulary when I was 15. In Helsinki, “zakidonshik” Hanyu showed us an unprecedented skate. I wonder when the others will be able to do something similar” http://stadium.ru/news/02-04-2017-aleksei-mishin-kolyada-i-kovtun-doljni-libo-osvoit-dopolnitelnie-chetvernie-prijki-libo-otdat-flag-v-ruki-drugih

Gachinsky: Hanyu proved that he’s No.1 in current men’s figure skating. “If Yuzuru goes out, all the others are defeated (lit. remain lying down). They can’t keep up with him, because when Yuzuru does his quads with such lightness, such flow, such an attack, he get +2/+3 GOE. He’s certainly the one to beat!.. Yuzuru was phenomenal in his free skate” http://sporteveryday.info/pages/gachinskiy-odinochniki-rasshirili-ramki-figurnogo-kataniya-na-chm-v-helsinki/

The translation is rather free and approximate - too many possible shades of meaning in some cases, and the printed text doesn't allow deciphering those.
