I do agree that some of the posts here make it seem like Shoma is a scheming, evil person in the way that their arguments have been worded. But I also agree that it is not a bad thing to speculate and critique on strategy. People should be able to discuss this without other people instantly labeling them as "bashers" or "haters," (which does seem to happen more often than not in the other forum LOL). I guess we should all just keep ourselves in check. I myself am guilty of often being on the brink of saying not-so-nice things about other skaters not named Yuzu lol. I know we all have strong feelings for this sport and for the skaters we love. We all just have to keep reminding ourselves to be respectful of skaters (and of everyone involved in the sport really)... in that way discussions can be more constructive and inclusive of everyone's opinions

I had the same reaction. Among the non-Yuzu avatars, this is definitely the most eye-catching. That wide-smiling green!

Oh, now I see. I was looking mainly at his free leg when counting the pre-rotation. But now that I look at his picking foot in the slo-mo, he seems to pick at 90deg (reference of 0 deg being the direction he is facing when starting the jump) with the side of his blade, and by the time he takes off (i.e., his picking foot leaving the ice) he is almost beyond (in some footage already beyond) the 180deg point. And yeah, part of the problem is the lack of slo-mo. Though I wonder about that too since the slo-mos shown on TV often include the entire jump, not just the landing. I would think it would be easy to get the same slo-mo footage that the rest of us get to see while watching TV coverage.

Can we say then that Shoma's 4F has an acceptable degree of pre-rotation? From what I see (and by no means am I an expert) he pre-rotates about 90deg on the ice. I guess this is within the acceptable range of pre-rotation allowed? (Although I guess some could say that he's almost facing forward when his toe pick leaves the ice.)

Now I'm curious what he would call Satoko's pre-rotation? (And now I'd like to go and look for slo-mos of Satoko's jumps as well.) I don't really understand what he means by a "messy tap"? Does he mean then that a pre-rotated jump is one where the tap happens when the skater is facing forward? Otherwise, they're just being messy with their tap? I doubt anyone would do it that way intentionally though, and in that sense I guess he's also implying no one can pre-rotate a toe jump.

I see. Looking at it more closely I can see at what point it could have been mistaken for a rocker. Right after he turns from the RBO it did seem for a moment he would go into a RFO, but actually it became a RFI. There is definitely no counter there though, even an "imminent" one you might mistake one for. (And P.S. I am enjoying looking at this slo-mos. I really want to learn to identify all these different turns, and these slo-mos help a lot.)

Thanks for explaining this. I learn something new everyday. Shoma's entry does look like a 3-turn, even for someone like me who struggles to remember the differences between all these different turns lol. How did that person come up with something so complex to describe it? And woah Zhenya. Her transitions are really something aren't they?

Oh, so the people who did 出待ち did get to catch a glimpse of him. Good for them! And near the end of the video with Nobu kun, they listed Yuzu as going to the 4CC in January. I guess they just assumed that?
