I actually just looked up "adobaisu purizu" in Katakana and it's a thing. I KNEW IT. This is why Japanese is the best language ever. Anyways, from what I've read around, since he's not doing Doi, 9 summer shows is actually a very limited amount of shows! Yuzu might be the one doing the least summer shows this year (well, last year as well, but it was for different reasons). I think he's going to keep everything a secret until the very beginning of the season, which is a terrible, wonderful tease for all of us. Have there been, in the past, seasons in which the music he skated to wasn't revealed until the first competition?

Well, pressure, I believe. See the Short Program at WTT. After he popped that loop, he was panicking in his head, and probably thought "I gotta nail this Salchow no matter what, now". So he went for it, rotated it, and landed it (very badly). I think he pops his jumps when he is 'distracted', doesn't feel 'in the moment'. This year, this cost him the 4CC gold medal. I think he will learn a lt from that loss, for next season. Plus, as the comment above mine says, next season (hopefully) he will still be at his top physical form, and having a year of experience with +4 quads in the Free Program, hopefully he will be more confident when going for the rotations. In general, I think he will pop less because he is always transformating himself. I think he's very very aware of his recurring popping issue this season, and will direct his practice towards that issue as well.

Yes, I think Yuzu's WTT Free Skate is proof of this. He popped 2 jumps (1 quad and 1 3A) but somehow he still got a score over 200 (just above it) because he attempted 5 quads and rotated/landed 4. I think after this season, he will pop way less jumps. Also, is it my impression, or edge jumps are "easier" to pop than toe jumps, because they rely on timing way more? Oh. I like this. With a 109 BV, he can easily go above 130 in TES. It's the perfect setting for a new WR. (I definitely want him to do something like 115 in the Short + 230 in the long = BAMMM 345. I can just see him thinking about the score and going "mmh. Doable")

But if Judges will give such candies, then I'm sure Yuzuru, too, will receive some, if he delivers. Because out of decency, you cannot give 10's to a clean Shoma or a clean Javi, and not give them to a clean Yuzuru. I firmly believe that they wouldn't do such a mistake. I believe GPF will be a very important competition for Yuzuru, next year. First of all, it will be very important for him because he aims for the 5th gold in a row. Usually, Olympic Champions have soley focused on the Olympics, during olympic year. Not Yuzuru. Yuzuru has a series of goals, among which (and most important of which) is the OG. I don't know if he's going to conquer all of his goals. But I know that if GPF won't go his way, then he will fight to the death to make Olympics go his way. And if GPF does go his way, he will have the confidence needed to make Olympics go his way. It's kind of a win/win situation.

Uhmm, pardon the but I feel personally offended if someone says Mozart is overrated I fell in love with him during my fourth year of history of music, relatively late if you consider I spent 6 years studying music without really appreciating him. Mozart was gifted as a child, and went all around Europe with his bigger sister (equally brilliant) to perform, but that was nothing compared to his adult accomplishments. It's not just the fact that he wrote everything that was musically possible with the current (current at his time) musical system, thanks to his never dying creativity and child-like imagination, it's not just the fact that the themes he used in his ballets and operas were new, prohibited, controversial (they were about love, they made fun of kings), just like his persona, thus he was very underrated during his life time, no, even hated, during his short life time, it's not just the fact that he paved the way for Romanticism through his last creations (which means he was a revolutionary, ahead of his time, like a lot of musicians in history) (see: Requiem), therefore, I can assure you there wouldn't have been any Beethoven without Mozart. It's his effortlessness, the easiness with which music came to him, as if it was the most natural thing in the world - and the reason most of Mozart's themes are remembered and loved even today isn't because he was a "wonder child", but because he was a crazy, crazy child in the body of an adult, that wrote music through unfiltered passion and love for all that is human. Of course, with this comment I could only condensate some of the reasons why he is fundamental to know and appreciate, but I suggest you to listen to his Magic Flute, his Requiem, his Barbiere di Siviglia, anything you can put your hands on, tbh. I compared Mozart and Yuzuru because of this 'easiness in doing impossible things' and their 'child-like love for life/music/skating', but it was just an example, to compare two geniuses together. There are many other musicians I could compare Yuzuru with. Of course, you have every right not to like Mozart. But saying he is nothing special and he is overrated is another thing. (Mozart uber OUT. Sorry for the huge OT.)

Yes, what makes me angry is that I think about the hours, the days, the months Yuzuru spends every time he has to insert a new jump, to make it technically perfect and to put difficult steps before and after it, and that has no meaning for some judges. They are trying to diminish his genius, much like when Mozart went to court and they told him he was playing "Too many notes", LOL. (Sorry, the example has been on my mind for months. To me, Yuzuru is a skating genius as much as Mozart was with music.) And then Shoma comes along and yes, you said right, he didn't have many good 4loops. I've seen various and they annoyed me because of the little height and distance (and the free leg during landing)
-
I swear, the thing that gives me bile is Shoma and Yuzu getting the same GOE for 4loop. And also the same GOE for 3A. It's a scandal, like Max would say.

That guy screaming "YEAAAAH!!!" after the 3Lz is my spirit animal.
-
Thanks <3 Every time I see it, especially with fancams, it's like I'm reliving it all over again.
-
Now I'm craving some fancams of H&L at Worlds 2017. Oh, well. I'll just go listen to Max and Angelo's commentary of it.

Repost because Yuzu said violin and we're in violin topic and violin's kinda my thing but there are too many things so I forget. I've just listened to this orchestral version of Meditation - previously I only knew piano and violin version, and this is just wonderful. The calmness, the melancholy, the struggling voice of the violin. Taking some repetitions out, the lenght would be quite good for an EX. Reminds me of swans, too (oh, well, Tchaikovsky. What are ya gonna do)

Aaaaah! If he ever wants to do Vitali's Chaccone live in Italy, I will definitely voluntary as tribute to play it for him Then, since you raised Vitali, I raise to you Bach's Chaconne! <3
-
Well, yeah, the mood is definitely that one! For example, a very familiar scene in Italy would be: there's a storm and a tree falls on a street, the street is closed and stays closed for weeks after that. Person A asks person B: "Why don't they remove the tree and re-open the street instead of keeping it closed?" and person B replies: "Misteri della fede". (Completely )
-
I totally have to share the screens of Max's comments under this twitter post: I love this because he translates to the letter an italian saying that goes "Mistero della fede", which is a way to say that something doesn't have any rational explanation, and can only be accepted as a religious dogma. (for example, the virgin birth). It's a very sassy way to say that something makes no sense. (In Italy, we have plenty of sass against the vatican, lol)

This isn't really a suggestion on the site/graphic stuff... more like suggestion for upcoming events. When I went to Helsinki, I wasn't able to meet anyone or talk to anyone, although I knew there were lots of Yuzu fans, even from my own country. To me, it would be nice if we could find a way to identify each other at competitions, but without something so 'important' like a banner with 'Planet Hanyu' (I mean, that too, but that's not easy to walk with at all times). Something like a sticker or a pin that we could wear visibly. This is more like a suggestion for the future, but I hope this is the right place to propose it! xD

I'm crying inside. These words are too beautiful. Somehow I knew he was a high-grades student. He's too perfectionist not to be. But the beautiful thing he's that he's not perfectionist out of ego or out of insecurity, but because he has a complete, deep vision of things that mesmerizes me each time.
-
Thank you for linking that audio! I had never heard it before. I agree with your whole post. Yuzuru makes extremely difficult things look to easy on ice, therefore not all judges understand what they're seeing right at the moment.
-
I don't know if this is too specific for this thread, but part of me thinks that part of the frustration he felt towards Short Programs this season is because with that 110.93 from Chopin, he basically obtained close to the Max score available, Tech and PCS wise. With a clean/perfect LGC he could have gotten to 112, even 113, but that's it. And I think it's frustrating for him to think of not being able to be better than himself, because of how the Score System works. This Score System has limits, especially in terms of PCS, while Yuzuru has not. This is why on one side I want him to do 4Lutz in the short. It would give him new horizons, points-wise. He could reach 115 - and I know he wants to reach that.
-
Yes yes yes, I completely agree! Sometimes, live is easier, you can definitely see, through the steps/moves preceeding the jump, whether it's gonna go, or it's gonna be a flop. For example, while I was watching LGC at WTT 2017, I definitely felt he was too heavy, moments before his 4 loop. I think it's a gut feeling. Jumps are such a mental strain, it's amazing and terrifying. Mostly terrifying, for me. It makes me think about playing in public and doing concerts. Whenever I do concerts, my hands feel paralysed and I can barely move, so my performances are like 80% worse than reharsals. I can only imagine what it's like to have that same paralisys, throughout your whole body. And really, jumps succeed when you have the 'feeling' of them, as Yuzuru says, and to have the feeling you have to feel your body ready and relaxed. To me, it's the hardest thing there is, in figure skating (and performing arts in general).
-
Oh, sorry I didn't catch on xD Fuck yeah that moment in H&L after the 4S3T was probably one of the most exciting moments of my life. Hell, the whole performance was. But I'd say, I was even more excited after the 3 Lz. I was sooo concentrated on that 3 Lutz. I thought 'please please PLEASE PLEASE' like half of the arena. It's nice to know that Yuzuru felt exactly THAT and said it in interviews afterwards.
-
I was at the complete opposite zone of the rink, so I didn't see the 4S2T combination very well... I saw that he took too much time between jumps, but I didn't see the knee going down very clearly, so I didn't know what the hell happened...

At Helsinki, I don't even know whether he conquered the audience more with LGC or Hope and Legacy. With LGC, it was a continuous clapping and cheering and screaming and jumping on your seat - the air was electrified, it's like all of the tension of all those hours of waiting was released in those 3 minutes. But with Hope and Legacy... you couldn't hear the music during the last 20 seconds, because of all the desperate and emotional clapping/crying. Just wow.

Also, it's interesting to notice, if you look at all of the 4 categories, how Yuzuru's predominance is actually stronger than any other skater, right now, together with Volosozhar/Trankov (who actually beat him by having all of the records lol. Damn malaguena). Medvedeva doesn't hold as many top scores as him, PCS wise. But how? She skated clean all year long! Well, of course, there's the age factor. Medvedeva simply had less time to assert herself in the sport. But can you imagine what would happen, scores wise, if Yuzuru skated clean all year long? The fact that when Yuzuru skates clean, we know that a World Record is assured, is absolutely out of the ordinary. Of course, Evgenia is the boss and I wish her all the best, her mentality seems to be built perfectly for victory, same as Yuzuru. But I also think Yuzuru is more revolutionary than any other skater right now (and any other skater in the past, if I may). But really the point of my comment was the perception. With ladies' skating, the public perception is very clear: Medvedeva wins over all, as of now. With pairs or ice dance, I wouldn't really know. But with men, there isn't the same perception. It's like everyone puts on top whoever they prefer, and Yuzuru's predominance is discarded as a thing of the past. This frustrates me, because the scores actually say that his predominance in the sport is one of the strongest in the history of skating.
-
Yes, same thing I thought! Please let him read that and build his confidence back for Short Programs. Plus, if I remember correctly, he never performed Chopin completely clean the first year he had it. Next year, he changed the layout, and bam, clean skate. Of course he's not gonna keep LGC. But sometimes change is a positive thing. A breath of fresh air. Some programs are psychologically more complex, see LGC. But tbh, his interpretation of it at Worlds was far better than any Malaguena, any time. Are you kidding me. It's like, you're at the oscars, you have to choose between actor A playing an autobiographic movie and actor B playing a biographic movie of someone from another culture and another time. Wow, tough decision, I cannot imagine what the hardest role might be. Clap clap Javi, nice Interpretation of the spanish stereotype. Sorry, I do not like Malaguena much.
