  1. This made me think (after several days...) that although the etymology of Orser is likely to be van Auslin (settled in NY during Netherlands rule, later they anglicized their name in Orser, and most of them were loyalist and moved to Canada after US Independence), or maybe Hostiler (an Oxfordshire family, quoted in the Domesday Book), the name as it is rather conveys, for a speaker of Latin languages (and many words and names in English, have a Latin origin), the idea of a bear (ursus in Latin, orso in several Italian languages, ours in French) keeper. Really these men are aptly named to be Pooh-san guardians when Yuzuru-Senshu goes skating. ;-)
  2. In fact, he's had a first jetlag to NHK, then two weeks later to Torino, then two weeks later to Japan Nationals. A nightmare for any "sleep MD".
  3. So, not on the market, and probably won't be for long. What do you think could be done with a Samsung S20 Ultra smartphone to be delivered early next month? They can catch up to 60 images per second, in 8k or maybe in 4k, and for every image of a video (I have asked the customer service) they can measure the height. Of course it wouldn't be the height of the highest moment which can happen between two of the images, yet I think it would be a good indication. And with 60 images per second, with human checking afterwards, I believe one could see edges, prerotations and underrotations, maybe with only one camera? Highly probably so if there are more than one, isn't it? Well, it is 1350€, yiiik...
  4. I tried a little search about these Ice-scope or Eyescope, they seem to be made by a Qoncept and Fuji, but I find nothing else. Are they on the market, or just prototypes, or?
  5. I don't think he wouldn't ever consider seing a therapist. Just that, he will be his own therapist for "just another" moment of doubt, supported by his family and his coaches. And from Brian Orser's words, they did have to help a lot. Thank you so much Kaeryth, I've seen the beginning and the image is just splendid. And Abe no Seimei is wearing a top with tender green details (though not exactly the same fluorescent green, but I tend to think they chose this colour because he was to wear the costume only twice in competition, then probably several times as an exhibition program, when light technicians don't always manage to keep up with his speed).
  6. Serious, sad doubts even, from what Brian Orser hinted. :-( Fortunately he seems to be on the way of recovery now.
  7. Same for me. Since the end of last holidays, "I am in a binge", my head turns after watching a few programs, plus I get the physical impression of skating fast, of turning, doing steps... which I cannot do physically (I have never skated). It has something to do with coming back on shore after a journey sailing. He is simply mindblowing.
  8. I am afraid I don't write very clearly, I was often told so. Well, it is worse when I speak. ;-)
  9. This would well be his. He may also have a less "cute", more "commanding sort of manner" (once again thank you Jane Austen) towards him, and if E.S. is not the domineering sort of man (wanting the best for himself and to humiliate others, without ever wanting to serve or even acknowledge authority), just the "insecure, unaware" sort of man, he may well feel what is real manliness, not just pretending, I am sure it would help him.
  10. Anna Shcherbakova has it at the beginning of her free program, and I like it.
  11. I really liked his two bits of impersonation of Charles Aznavour in his short program at the beginning of the season. Very brief, but really well done, and I like Aznavour so I might have been particular if it hadn't been. The problem is, even this had disappeared at GPF, hence my comment. I felt more concerned for him than "furious" (I was furious about the scores, but this is another question). If we take Bradie Tennell, she is not an artistic skater (I think Chen has really more potential than her) but her short program is easy to interpret and she followed the indications, and she delivered a performance. This program IS some figure skating. While I perceived Chen's at GPF, as a mere exercise. I really wonder what he will be doing at Worlds.
  12. He had sprained his right ankle during the practice before the short program. I suppose this is why he was "only" 7th at this short program. This "superhuman" will, with the physical pain, added certainly to his expression. I never dared to watch the 2014 Cup of China skate while injured, but this, I am too hooled to avoid it though I feel somehow guilty. FlyingCamel, he had survived the March 2011 earthquake which hit his hometown while he was practising at the rink, his parents' home was damaged beyond repair, etc.
  13. Unfortunately, I feel that Nathan Chen has a potential to be a complete skater, rather on the less artistic side of course but a performer; but lately I was struck by the fact he was doing nothing more than bare elements with crossovers in between (which is explicitly forbidden by ISU rules and rarely seen even with novices I believe?) and these elements "as he can", without any "adaptation to the program". So, without lacking any artistic talent, at the moment (GPF particularly) I really see nothing artistic/performing in his skate.
  14. Well, Yuzuru Hanyu has got more muscles and testosterone than them all, and this may well make a good deal of his attractiveness to women. Sorry for speaking of the only man I really really know, my husband, in no way could he be as flexible as Nathan Chen, etc, when he looks at Yuzuru Hanyu he finds in him both grace and manliness because he is himself a natural dominant, protective and secure and he acknowledges a peer without problem or shame. It is not the same with insecure males seeking females (of course there will be no problem with other male characters). They try to abide by a model they believe to be attractive to ladies (and is so, to some of them), and it is this model we tend to call "toxic masculinity".
  15. One thing I have learnt recently (and there too, I should have suspected at least part of it, as Krystian Zimerman seems to have had a very dedicated Japanese "fanbase" as early as his 1987 VHS release only in Japan), is that in a 2003 concert in Japan, he did an address in Japanese (and contrary to French President Macron and his English, he wouldn't have spoken without a great proficiency in the language) and from 2005, he had a pied-à-terre in Tokyo. I am sure it made things easier to communicate personally with Yuzuru Hanyu.
  16. For a "normal" world-level skater, certainly. For Yuzuru Hanyu, I really don't know. He has his own "motivation boosts", I don't know how to express it, which are so powerful — and part of what make him directly enthralling. We could extend the wine metaphor. ;-)
  17. He seems to have had a very good balance from the beginning?
  18. Oh, I didn't need the quote at all, I just wondered when it was, approximately. For instance, it was announced that Yuzuru Hanyu could land some 4A, as soon as early 2018 (hence I suppose the abnormal base value for it in the new system), but he doesn't skate it in his programs yet. Though I guess that as with any of his jumps, he will not show it until he can skate it perfectly AND with superb entry and transition.
  19. Me too! I must say, in the two videos send by Geo1, the first one was accurate, not the second one (an anglicized version). It reminds me when I heard pronounced "Djemawa" on a radio program and, from what they said, it could be nobody else than Chopin's great friend "Grzymala" (in fact with a barred l, I had no notion of Polish pronunciation then). ;-) And the "ain" in Ghislain" is like "ai" in "air" but nasalized.
  20. I hadn't read about Ghislain Briand's confirmation, that's great! When was it? So it were salchows? I cannot imagine Nathan Chen managing a quad axel (or he would have to switch coaches), do you think he may some day land a quint? He already worries me because of the stiffness of his landings, I am under the impression that, for all pre-med he takes, he is doing himself serious harm. Plus the axis instability?
  21. Well, I don't have a feeling of "male nudity" here, but I really don't understand why he's still invited by skating shows. From what I understand it was not just a thoughtless answer to an "unknown admirer" without imagining she could be a minor. It seems there was something darker at stage there. What was Ciprès' part in it, I have no clue, the only one who necessarily knew all was the girls' coach who asked them to require this pic, but he seems to have known at least, that he was sending it to a 13-year-old. :-(
