  1. I believe Yuzuru debuted both Requiem and SEIMEI at FaOI 2015? ETA: Okay, no I think he debuted SEIMEI at DOI but then performed it at the later FaOI stops. But I think Requiem was definitely debuted at FaOI. Hi yuzuthebest! Thank you for the statistics, I was wondering the number of views before the Fan Fest was closed, because now the view count has been reset for all the threads. Almost 14 million times, wow. Congrats Danibellerika! Hope you have lots of fun cheering for all your favorite skaters!

At this point, I'm a broken record, bear with me. Yuzuru already portrayed two famous Shakespearean characters (both Romeo and Juliet), it's time to move onto a new one and come back full circle to his breakout senior program R+J1. Yuzuru, if you're reading this, Hamlet? Henry V? Not super overdone to be a warhorse, but well known enough (well, at least Henry V is) Here's the most iconic performance to Henry V: Paul Wylie created his Olympic moment using this gloriously uplifting and dramatic music with his stunning moves in the field and style/line. Surely Yuzuru's up to the challenge. He could even go blinged out soldier royalty for the costume.
  3. Picasso is interesting, one of my favorite recent Ice Dance programs was Sara Hurtado/Adria Diaz's 2013-14 FD: (You may recognize the music as Anna Pogorilaya's this season!) As for revisiting an old program for his short, I wonder if it's Chaplin. Arguably he should have kept it for the Olympic season, it was such a strong program. That's interesting, I wonder how much the music cuts will change as well.
  4. Lots of pros and cons, you're right. I think one of the most telling things is that Yuzuru really soaks up the atmosphere of each competition, like at 4CC he really was thinking of it as a special competition as the precursor to the Olympics, so he took note of how it looked, how it sounded, and how it felt. On the other hand, I think Shoma and Nathan both just said basically it wasn't particularly special, it was like any other competition, and they just had to do their job. That's Yuzuru, it's just how he's wired. I think he really views this next Olympics as something special, so in this way, I think he wants to MAKE his Olympics moment at Pyeongchang special, and for me, I think that means upgrading to a 4Lz. I wouldn't judge his 1/9 success rate of the 4Lz at WTT as normal (end of the season, probably lots of fatigue, not seriously training it as he would a quad that he actually includes in his programs especially because it could interfere with his still-included 3Lz), I think he's fully capable of doing it. I think now that he's grown so much physically and mentally compared to when he was starting with his 4S, he was able to quickly adjust to a 2 quad short with Chopin, a 3 quad long with SEIMEI, and then the 4Lo was an overall success this season as well. The most important thing is staying injury free and he knows it. If he does, he controls his own quad-ing destiny.
  5. It's unfortunate that combos aren't rewarded better, then we might see people like Shoma attempt his 3A+4T in competition over a probably questionable 4Lz, or we could see Yuzuru's second half 4+3 combos rewarded more than the men who plan 4+2s. Much like the debate over Sotnikova's uncalled flutz at Sochi (I'm not starting that argument, just saying it was a point of debate), it invites controversy to seemingly get passes from the technical panel at big events, especially if it helps decide podium placements at the Olympics.
  6. Hey yuzuangel, thanks for the poll!! I actually was really interested if there was any commonality between liking Yuzuru and liking certain other skaters. For example, if most Yuzuru fans like Alexei Yagudin, Stephane Lambiel, etc. I think beyond Yuna's absolute skating greatness that makes people like her, I think there's especially aspects of Yuzuru's skating that remind me of her as well. But at the same time, I see so many aspects of Mao especially in his approach/personality towards skating. He's a fan of both of them, so I'm not surprised, and it's nice to see them both leading this poll.
  7. Are you prepared for the Olympic costumes yet, Meoima We're going to get super crystal clear 4k 60fps videos of his performances and costumes.
  8. I am kinda lazy now, it's time for my skincare routine lol. But this is Yuzuru when his Flip was still meh, this was at JWC 2010, he got flat ! call for it): http://imgur.com/6CdF0gd You see his outside edge? And even if you do not look at his edge, you see his left leg was not straightened, this was when he's 15. And look at the close-up here in 2017: http://imgur.com/7FfH7cK Gif: https://media.giphy.com/media/LNHRbLTxb6sF2/giphy.gif You see at the take-off, his left leg was straightened a bit right at the take-off. That's the improvement. That straight leg even just for a half second means it's a Flip. Yuzuru does not have to be scared of his Flip edge now. One more thing, Yuzuru has NO pre-rotation in the Flip and Lutz, that's why it's possible for him to correct the edge in the Flip. Blade of Passion often complains that Yuzuru makes his Lutz too hard because he has ZERO pre-rotation. But actually, it's this Zero pre-rotation helps him to get ok Flip now. He pulls himself up too quick before the Flip slight inside edge can rock to the outside. Right? His zero prerotation flip is kind of hilarious, look at how he uses his picking foot (right foot) and how the blade is actually pointing outwards. It's the opposite of prerotation (picking inwards and then spinning on the ground towards the direction of rotation, meaning less air rotation), he actually makes the Flip harder in order to get the correct edge. The quickness of his entry (right out of choreography and really quick during his 3 turns) definitely helps to keep him from rocking to the outside. Here's an example of one of Yuzuru's worst "Lip"s (he got called e) at 4CC 2011, look at how obviously his left leg bends and goes onto the outside edge. Go into settings and watch at 0.25x speed: I'm glad he got called on it for years and improved that edge.

Shadow of the Colossus is a legendary VGOST, great choice! The waltz you posted makes me think of Mao's Masquerade Waltz programs, now I'm imagining Yuzuru in a similar costume
  10. I think no matter what, we always come back to choreographer talk. That, music, and costume talk. I think the music announcement of some big skaters has already whet some of our appetites and now we're itching for Yuzuru's programs and next season to start.

Hi Winnie_20! Nice to see you over here, I'm unico from back on GS. Of course, the Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts OST suggestions run eternal! The iterations on the Main Theme from Final Fantasy are wonderful to hear as well, my favourite is probably from the latest game, very celebratory, romantic, and wedding-like with delicacy and bittersweet triumph pouring from every note:
  12. I picked the word up from the old FF, and thought it's something fans use to refer to themselves :P And indeed the word merging can be confusing. Title changed! Thanks for the suggestion I think it may have started off negatively, but perhaps it is becoming a more positive word. In any case, thank you for your response! More pink bow power to you too. himawari, your English is great! We all understand exactly what you're trying to say. I was a fan of Joubert back in the day as well.
  13. Same. Gold suits him a lot imo Excuse me, what programe is in the gif from your signature? The program is "Believe", it's a special collaboration made for Fantasy On Ice 2 years ago between him and Che'Nelle (the artist singing). Here's a link: I actually really enjoy this fanedit of his Believe performance with Clair de lune: Surprisingly, although most people use cooler colors for this Debussy piece, the peachy orange gives such a warm and radiant feeling. The orange with purple crystals + the blue lights =
  14. Wow, great to read so many stories of how people came to be fans of Yuzuru! Klera, I wish you safe travels to Pyeongchang for the men's LP!! I know a bunch of other fans are going too, maybe there could be a meet up. A note about the title though,I know most people use "Fanyu" derogatorily, like Yunab*t or Maob*t. I think "fan of Yuzuru" is also the easiest to understand for those unfamiliar with English. Just a suggestion though!
  15. Well, Hana Ni Nare got only 1 vote less than Requiem :P I agree, Requiem is so good, it might be my favorite Yuzu program, if only there weren't so many other amazing yuzu programs. Actually I wrote about my favorite programs ever ^^ BTW I LOVE YOUR AVATAR. yuzuangel, I loved reading your thoughts on all those programs! Boston's Requiem really was something special. I remember writing just after the FS and the fan thread had become immersed in anger, sadness, confusion, that perhaps the Requiem he had yet to perform would help to heal both himself and the fans as well. It's a program that reminds us that there's more to competitions than winning or losing, there's more to figure skating than competitions. It's a program about suffering, pain, but also hope, and life. I'm not sure if you've seen it, but our very own alia jackson has a version slowed down to 60%. The effects on the audio are like a slow submersion into a deep, calm water. It's remarkable in his sheer musicality (watch out for the timing on the 3Lo, the 3A, and the arm movements on his flying camel spin right after) but also offers a brilliant and haunting perspective on this sublime program.
  16. I don't mind rippons and tanos, but only when they're used to highlight the music. It's basically just a flourish on a jump, and doing it on everything is like putting a flourish! on! every! word! and it loses its specialness. Does anybody remember when Wakaba used to land so many of her jumps and then immediately lean over and tilt her head? It's a great example of upper body movement as a transition (i.e. offsetting the balance, upper body movement as transitions isn't just any old arm movement!), but I'm so glad she's stopped that.
  17. Welcome to the forum Skye, I'm also a fan of Ryom/Kim, they have such a beautifully classic style, what an underdog story! I love all the skaters mentioned here, especially Deniss! I wish Jun Hwan would work with Kenji Miyamoto again, I'm not sure if David Wilson is the right fit for him considering this season's programs, but let's hope they've been saving up something better for this year. I actually liked JunHwan's LP this season (Though what got me to like him more is the JWC Ex >< I don't know how but it just "pulled me in") >< I think Jun Hwan's LP this season is certainly not bad, but I think David Wilson could do something much more unique and interesting, this skater has lots of interpretive capabilities but I think his Il Postino was a bit "safe". Of course, he still has his entire career ahead of him to tackle even more memorable programs.

  19. I'm sure she'll enjoy it, I'm pretty sure she's a fan of his. But if you're referring to Yagudin's Winter (not Vivaldi, but lots of wintery drama!), unless if Shoma starts throwing the snow from the icerink, I think commentary will be fairly normal.
  20. I actually think that at the Olympics, there tends to be more lenient panels. Partly because they want audiences to feel like there's good skating going on, so Seasons Bests and Personal Bests are handed out easily. But also because they don't really want to overly punish what is not super visible to the casual viewers. Just my thoughts. I mean, Shoma himself said that although he's trained and landed quad sals, he'd rather go for the 4Lz because it's more worth it. Even if he flutzes it, it seems like that's what he'd rather pursue, which I think follows what he cherishes most about skating, "to attack" (this was from a recent interview with Team Japan, where Yuzuru said his most cherished aspect of skating is "to soar"). He's clearly very ambitious, and he's quite balanced between his PCS and TES, and Yuzuru of all people is aware of that. He even follows junior skaters like Alexei Krasnozhon's 4Lo attempt, or Vincent Zhou's ripponed 4Lz, he's always super aware of his competition, and I think he will act accordingly. He's used strategies that I initially disagreed with until he proved that he was right all along. Although Yuzuru was also very ambitious heading into Sochi, I'm glad that Tracy and Brian really, really made him pay attention to his skating skills and transitions, it's served him so well in the long run. Sorry I can't answer about the boots, I would assume he goes through every 2-3 months, just because he doesn't have to train as many quads as Nathan I think.
  21. Hello all new members, Pandap, kusa, yana, yozuki, anyone I might have missed , I'm so glad to see lurkers of GS are now posting. Mr. Ambesi is very popular here! He is the original "Planet Hanyu" man. the50person, thank you so much for you H&L analysis! I also wrote a small one myself back on GS to a famous poster who originally thought the program was bad (but eventually came around!) and I was also struck by the constant rise and fall of energy within the music. It truly is like a river current, unruly, unpredictable, but always flowing. Analyzing program structures is so interesting, one of my favorite examples is Michelle Kwan's 1996 Salome, the ending builds up and builds up and then cuts to almost pure silence except for a few mysterious, sustained notes. It's musically low energy but extremely high tension, and then culminates in a BANG! with a 3T: Love it. I think big, dramatic music like this would be perfect for an Olympic program. I wonder what Lori would do for Yuzuru, interesting possibilities.
  22. Hi Yuzuru Hailee and vivian02231974, welcome to the forum! Yuzuru Hailee, your English is great, learning languages is all about trying! Here it is, AppleEmperor! :) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCACbAMaqBZs6nT7h86UdY9Q

I approve this I'm sure both the female and male fans would enjoy it very much! I imagine the costume would probably be sparkly (naturally), pitch black, have a high-neckline, lace, and RUFFLES. Ruffles everywhere. I think he does really well with his jumps when he can channel intensity into it too, like the beginning of R+J1.
  24. Nice to see you around Geo1! I certainly don't think you're the only man around, some are probably just shy

I agree with those who have said Chopin again, if he also contemplated Grande Polonaise, it's such beautiful, soft, and dreamy music. If we're going classical again, I would also love Bach, who is so underused. His moody/intense pieces especially. Prelude & Fugue no.2, C minor (just imagine the CRAZY footwork) Toccato & Fugue, D minor (THE quintessential Bach piece, dark, ominous, vampire-esque costume, come on) This is so gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.
